In Seoul South Korea 18 years ago I was walking home from the subway station when an American man caught up to me and started walking at pace with me. He said...don’t look back but there is a man (Korean) following you. I think you should join me for a coffee at the next place and once he is gone then you can safely go to your home...I will never forget his act of protecting me and for the fact of his situational awareness which most likely saved my life.

There’s a group of K-pop looking teens who took advantage of the fact that K-pop is now popular. They would travel to poorer countries in South East Asia and rape the young girls there. You can look like an innocent K-pop star yet be a violent rapist. This is happening in the Philippines with Korean foreigners.l

Be aware of your situation and surroundings. Don’t play on your phone while walking alone at night. Carry pepper spray or a weapon of some sort. Wear comfortable shoes with no heels. Don’t rely on someone saving you all the time. You know the risks. Minimize them as much as possible.
As a man who has faced violence on the streets. You have to understand it can happen to you too. But since I was ready for it? I’m able to type this today. I often wonder what color his eye patch is.

there should be a law that makes it so that if the doctor of the victim (or emts) states that the victim was in a state of unconsciousness they should be treated as UNABLE to consent and a fine. Guys who say "you got a problem" when a foul woman runs her mouth insulting and provoking people in ways men simply wouldn't because it's a death wish. Then when a man is provoked they have to consider fighting an entire room of people plus the police. Women, especially in the west, are not afraid of acting like a (very immature) man 99% of the way. My friend was killed in 2015 at 22 y/o by her husband because she "Was caught getting out of the house when he was out partying". Stabbed over a dozen times (she was approximately 100 pounds).
He got 9 years because "He showed remorse"...got out on weekends after 3 years, got out on probation after 6 years - attempted on doing the same with his new girlfriend.
A guy (only a few weeks ago) live streamed the murder of his wife because she dared applying for a restraining order because of "a few slaps". Her last words before she got shot in the head on camera were "I was scared of you".
Only a few days ago a woman got bitten on her face by her ex husband in broad daylight. While a stranger defended her, the ex said "That's my woman. I can do as I please".
I myself woke up one too many times in the middle of the night with my pants suddenly down or fingers in where they do not belong while I was sleeping and unable to consent. His excuse "It has been days - I couldn't help it".

Yes it takes good men to look out for our women. It’s shouldn’t be a men vs women like the creator is trying to promote. She’s basically saying the law shouldn’t be blind and that killing a women should have a bigger punishment. She lost me on this one, especially since males are victim to violent crime at a higher rate than females. Murder is murder and rape is rape and it’s wrong no matter the victim to culprit. And the fact she’s saying a schizophrenic’s POV on women is the norm shared by all men is insulting. She even doubled down and said “I’m not making this a man vs women thing but if your male and have a opinion different from mine then shove it and go look in the mirror” is extremely narcissistic. I love women, would fight wars and die for the girls in my life but she lost me in this video. Feminism should be about equality and not superiority.

This literally happened to me in Seoul getting off the subway, I felt him from going up the stairs from the station. When I realized I was getting closer to my friend’s place. I turned into a shop and called my friend’s husband to meet me (she was at work and I went out for the day to sightsee until she was off work). The guy stayed out there as I waited and I only turn to look at him when my friend’s spouse met me, that’s when I met his eyes and he stood there for a while before turning away. He looked confused and surprised at the same time. After, I told my friend about it and they said they won’t say it’s common, but it happened enough to not be shocked. It was the weirdest experience, especially since I am a dark skin black American woman. Im kind of invisible during the day in Korea, definitely never thought to get that type of attention in Korea. I’m glad my spidey senses were still on alert then to notice and my friend’s husband was home playing LOL

So... They found her completely disheveled with her underwear half on and she was bleeding from her rectum for a month, but she seemed totally fine and walked normally throughout ALL the CCTV footage PLUS the doctors couldn't get good DNA samples because they were trying to save her life. So like... Do they (the court/judges) think she somehow unzipped her own pants and took a single leg out of her panties just to put her pants back on before or after she was assaulted? Like... If she was fighting for her life, at what point do they think she had the time to put her clothes back on like that??? Idk. I get that some of it is "circumstantial evidence" but look at the portfolio of concrete evidence around all the other things.
Like, I'm not a zoologist but if an animal quacks, can fly, can swim, lays eggs, has a bill for a mouth, has short legs, orange webbed feet and waddles, I'm PRETTY inclined to assume the animal is a fucking duck. As humans, we're intelligent enough to deduce what happened without having to always SEE the crime happen. I cannot believe people want to "debate" about what happened because there's no video evidence. How disgusting.

As a man, I don't see how any decent man could see this as women vs. men cases Honestly, these (and so many of the cases covered by this channel) are very clearly men vs. women cases. So many of these would never had happened if the victims were not women and it's absolutely infuriating to see how little women are regarded around the world (including where I live).
The amount of victim blaming, direct targeting, and the lack of support from authorities and the so-called justice system are nauseating. I don't know how to help. I wish I did. But it's difficult to know what to do when your very presence could be enough to trigger someone who has been a victim of a man.
I feel tremendously for the suffering women have to endure. At best, I can empathize but (even as a man who has been the victim of SA) my own position of privilege is such that I can never truly understand the atmosphere of fear that women have to live in.

As a foreign woman who has lived in Korea for the past decade, I am without words. I just finished watching your episodes about the airforce case, two sisters case, and now this case, and I've always considered South Korea to be an extremely safe place in terms of violent crime, but you've kind of opened my eyes to the fact that this country isn't necessarily safer for women - it is likely just full of silent victims who don't report their assaults due to Korea being ruled by authority figures who not only laugh in the face of sexual assault victims, but who literally see it as an inconvenience to them. In all three of these cases you discussed, the CORE issue is not actually the perpetrators - it is the AUTHORITY that protects the perpetrators. I can guarantee you that the amount of sexual assault occurring in Korea would plummet if hypothetical perpetrators had any reason to believe that their crimes will be taken seriously by the powers that be. Every time a case like this happens, every time the news reveals a rapist getting slapped on the wrist, a slew of new perpetrators will be emboldened. Shame on the police. Shame on the military. Shame on the entertainment industry. Shame on the executive branch. Shame on any office of authority who gives paychecks and power to men who see women as objects who dare not inconvenience a man. Shame on any person in a position of power who BLATANTLY denies or minimizes clear evidence of a horrific crime.
I love living here but my heart is truly breaking for the countless women (and men) who have buried their trauma inside because the alternative is having society mock them and torment them until the point of suicide while the authority figures let them off because an "important" man's reputation needs to have priority over a victim's dignity.
I love Korea with all of my heart. I am married to a Korean man and he is one of the most wonderful people I have ever met. This country can do better for its people. This country needs to do better.

That saying is used to villify victims of any type of bullying. I myself heard that from a TEACHER in high school. Around that time I attempted self exit, failed. And several more times after that. I graduated "k-high 🙄" over a decade ago and the impact all the bullying had on me is still taking its toll. It all started when I was a 2nd grader who just came back from US after a year. The girl passed out in the car and after they arrived, the driver tried to get her inside but wasnt able to, so he left her sitting against something at the sidewalk. The girl didnt last 6 minutes passed out at the street, some guy immediately grabbed her and brought her to an abandoned field, and raped her. When Steph said about the drinking culture at South Korea, but then complemented saying typically women dont pass out from drinking at the streets, all I could think about was that the victim of that case wasnt even able to be left alone for 10 whole minutes, the moment someone laid eyes on her, all they could think about was abusing her.

This isn't meant to attack OP, but I think it's important to clarify that rape kits aren't exactly "simple". Sometimes I hear people cast doubt on victims who decline one without fully understanding what the process entails. Other people who are well meaning and want to help might urge the victim to do it in order to bring the attacker to justice, but in reality it's a very lengthy, invasive full body exam that puts the victim through the same trauma they just recently experienced.
      (warning about the details)
Imagine having to stand fully nude as examiners swab nearly every inch of your body, from your mouth to your nails, to your genitals and rectum. Your pubic hair is combed for evidence and even plucked. It takes hours to document every injury and your emotional state at a very vulnerable time. And to top it off you are rarely, if ever, given your clothes back once it's been sent for testing. Yes the evidence may help, but the most important thing is to listen to the victim's needs and give them back some sense of autonomy.

Hi Stephanie. Please read this. I'm from a small town in South Africa. A few years ago my cousin Percy was dating a girl who was cheating on him with a police officer. One day, Percy found out about the cheating. He ended things with the girl. The same day, he went fishing with his friends when the cop stopped him and put him into the police van. The cop and his friends beat my cousin to the point of Him almost dying before throwing him in a jail cell. There was another guy in the jail cell that tried to help him. Percys mother tried to see him in jail and they didn't allow her to. The guy in the jail cell sent a message to percys mother that he needed to talk to her and that he has something he needs to tell her about Percy urgently. A few hours later, my cousin was found hanging in the cell. The cops told my aunty that he committed suicide but both his legs and arms were broken. How could he have tied the rope?
The entire thing was a cover up. Both the guy in the cell and the cop disappeared and his death was ruled as a suicide.
My aunt tried to get a lawyer to fight the case but they didn't have enough money to proceed. We know he was murdered and that's what the guy in the cell wanted to tell my aunt. But the cop got to him before he could say anything. That guy is missing till today. Even his family hasnt heard from him.
Please could you cover this case Steph? I want people to know about my cousin. Thank you so much. 😢❤

It's more rooted in a general culture based on power dynamics (based on age, gender, rank, etc) and way of thinking bleeds through into the justice system.. This is obviously changing with each passing generation, but we are still currently at a point where a lot of the people in power are older men who grew up learning that the well being and reputation of men, especially high ranking men, are literally more important than that of women. IMO the male-only military draft is a major aspect of sexism that continues to persist in Korean society. The male half of the population and female half of the population are essentially split off for the first couple of years of their early twenties and during that time are taught different things about how to behave and what their societal roles are.

This case reminded me of one that recently happened in my country. It was around 7 am, a woman was walking to work through a residential area, a man is walking behind her and suddenly he attacks her. She yells "I have nothing on me!" and he stabs her several times and leaves her there. She starts to walk home, she's losing lots of blood and she's in a lot of pain. She died that day, it was her birthday.
It was all caught in cctv, the guy was later arrested. It was presumed that he killed her because he wanted to steal her phone and wallet and when she told him she didn't have anything on her, he got mad and stabbed her because he couldn't get anything from her. But news outlets have already reported that the victims phone and other belongings where there at the crime scene, meaning he wasn't interested in stealing her stuff, it was also discovered he had a good paying job and had NO need to steal anything from anyone. Her family have already stated that they aren't related to the attacker, investigations have confirmed this. This guy didn't know the victim in any form, he killed her just because he wanted to. He was mad that day for whatever reason and decided to take her anger out on a vulnerable woman walking alone.
There's already a lot of discontent in my country in how gender based homicides are dealt with, many times there's never any justice served and women have started marching and protesting because we're just tired of never feeling safe. I wish women could just exist without fear, but it feels like we can't be safe anywhere.

Very similar to the first story. He says hey to her and she nods and continues walking. She makes a turn not too long after and after a while of walking up one street she slips and looks around to see if anyone saw and didn’t see anyone. A few minutes later a loose dog running past her makes her turn around again and there’s the man she let pass her behind her. She grabbed her dog and kept walking and made a sudden to to go down a stairwell that connects to another street below. A few years back, in 2016, my neighborhood and the entire city was rocked with a horrible crime. Caroline Nosal worked at a local grocery store with a man named Christopher O'Kroley. They shortly became friends, but not too far after, she would be shot dead in the parking lot and her murderer was the man she had been friends with. He started having feelings for Caroline, and she didn't like him back. He sent her a bunch of explicit, horrible messages and then she told him not to talk to her anymore. She tried to get him fired, and he finds out, he shoots her in the parking lot. He did get life in prison, but it's a horrifying reminder of how women are treated in modern day society. Men do get SA’d and my country is trying to fix that issue too, women who commit crimes get punished. We just need to end misogyny, that is the purpose of this video.

    little rant here:
i am terrified for my safety from men. i really dislike it when men approach me in a "suggestive" way.
one guy even followed me home trying to sell me a product trying to flirt when i told him no many times
    i was triggered by this
and my parents just tell me to "take it as a compliment"
my father constantly teases me saying "youre really a catch huh?" whenever i share my sexual harassment stories
and my mother says "just talk to them nicely" (my mother is one of those lucky women who didnt experience much sexual harassment)
a married woman was raped in my neighborhood in broad daylight in her home
they dont care that the same thing could happen to me or to someone else (we have customers coming into our home)
to them, its as if being a good christian is magically gonna protect me from anything and everything
it terrifies and pains me knowing that my parents are only ever gonna take me seriously when "something" happens to me.

It is a good thing that you are aware of this, it is the first step in staying safe. It is crazy that I must say this to someone who is, I suppose, living in a western country, that you should take up some self defense classes of some sort, it will help you in many ways. It will boost your confidence, alleviate some fears and make new friends. Also, depending of the country you're in, get yourself some pepper spray. In my country, we are not allowed to own pepper spray! stupid! women should be "handed out" some !!!

Hearing the first story and hearing that he did this only because of the way she looked at him in passing is so terrifying- I was told recently that my friend’s boyfriend’s friend has a deep unshakable hatred for ME because i supposedly gave him ‘a look’ over 5 YEARS ago. I didn’t even know what he looked like or his name until he had showed up to my best friend’s party after learning I would be there because he had intended to confront me about that day 5 years ago.
He luckily does not know my personal information about my workplace or home but hearing this makes me think about how safe I really am- what lengths will he go?

I am a friendly person. The type who'll talk to others while waiting in a check-out line, hold doors for men & women, assist others when I see them struggling..my question is this & I wish someone could answer it for me. First, only men have posed this to me...I smile a lot. Random men will quite often ask "what are you smiling about?" in a very confrontational tone. Then if I'm not smiling, a random man will tell me "smile!" or ask "why don't you smile?". Seems I can't win! These are always men I don't know, total strangers. I've had some suddenly acuse me of being a tease for smiling.?? I do not dress provocatively or present myself in a way even remotely flirty. Is this a norm I've somehow missed??

This kind of hatred towards women is based on cultural expectations and stereotypes. For example in my culture women aren’t expected to raise their voice when talking to men and if they did so they would get shouted at and shut down no matter how important the issue that they are discussing. Women are expected to be vulnerable, weak, fragile, and if shown any sign of “masculinity” they are viewed as crazy, or unworthy of trust

I just want to comment on your point that the schizophrenia person's delusions stem from some sort of reality or "that they don't come out of thin air".
My Dad was diagnosed schizophrenia in the 90's. Some of his delusional thoughts were normal fears, but on steroids.
Then there were delusional thoughts that had no reality. My Dad would not eat any food in the town where my parents lived in because he believed they were poisoning him. At one point he thought my Mom was poisoning him.
I do appreciate your compassion in the beginning when you were talking about his diagnosis. Taking care of someone diagnosed schizophrenia, and loving them is the hardest thing our family ever went through. Thank you for all the research and compassion you put into all your videos.

I want to add something to the first story (Minnie): the perpetrator has all of Minnie's information (name/address/ID# etc) because they are involved in civil lawsuit because Minnie is looking for compensations (med bills etc). All of Minnie's information is on the court document and the perpetrator is provided a copy of it. And multiple of his cell mates has come out and states that he kept threatening to hurt her after he gets out because he has all her personal information.
but because of this case, the law is now reivsed that in situations like this where there's a civil and criminal trials symotaneously happening, the court has the ability to conceal the personal information from both parties in the documents. Althought it'll roughly take another 2 years for the law to put in place, but its the little silver lining in the case😞

These stories remind me of an attack in my city several years ago.
I live in Minnesota which is where the Mall of America is (one of the biggest malls in the country). It's got a hotel, an amusement park, multiple food courts ect.
A mother was shopping in the middle of a weekday with her 5 year old son, out of no where, a man kind of squeezed passed her, but before she could even realize what was happening the man picked up her tiny 5 year old son and through him over the 3rd level balcony they were standing near. The mom screamed and looked over the rail to see her son laying in a puddle of blood 3 floors below.
The man ran from the mall and emplyees/police quickly reacted to try to save this little boy.
The boy survived, but it was a long, difficult recovery.
The reason it reminds me of these other cases is because of the reason the man did this. When he was caught, he told police that the reason he did it was because he had been coming to the mall often to pick up women, but they kept rejecting him. This made him angry so he planned that morning to go to the mall and find a women to hurt but when he saw the boy it just felt like a good time to act and knew he could easily throw the small boy over the railing.
I still look at the spot that poor boy landed, and the spot he was thrown over, every time I walk by them in the mall.
He was in front of a "Rainforest Cafe" restaurant when he was thrown. A fun place I've taken my own kids many times. The thought of these monsters going after our kids to hurt us is paralyzing. It's sickening

If the woman was unaware she was being followed, kicked in the head from behind, etc... she doesn't NEED to have amnesia in order to no know what happened... she was unconscious... you can not remember things unless you are conscious... now IF she lost the memories of times when she HAD been conscious, THEN she had amnesia... but I would not consider her lack of memories during this period of assault on her as having amnesia... she was incapacitated.
