"Perimeter of Our Ignorance" is the new name for my metal band.
Prog-Space-Djent metal as the genre!
Unfortunately it's expanding faster than the universe.
@@bipl8989 good one

"As the area of our knowledge grows, so does the perimeter of our ignorance." I just LOVE Neil deGrasse Tyson!
I instantly quoted him on Facebook.
And I want it on a poster.
mind was blown.
Glad you liked that but Neil actually stole it from Kennedy's speech at Rice University September 12 1962.
He rephrased it so it wasn't necessarily plagiarized.
@@jamesgoines7663 As a self-avowed nerd, I obviously looked it up as soon as you mentioned it and then followed the white rabbit. Turns out, Kennedy himself was paraphrasing Albert Einstein, who some two decades earlier had said "as our circle of knowledge expands, so does the circumference of darkness surrounding it". Lots of interesting literature down that rabbit hole, touching on everything from the uncertainty principle to the long dark tea-time of the soul. My good dude - thank you for putting me to that exercise. :D
@@maximeprometheas I like Einsteins version omg that man's mind was a chasm of knowledge
Always love when neil goes full happy talking about science haha
Yes! When he stops using the Teacher Voice and is just Neil.
Don't you find him creepy? His personality comes off as fake and manipulative. Unsurprisingly he has multiple allegations from women against him.
You can't go far into science without absolutely loving it.
I had a high school physics teacher who'd go deliriously happy when explaining some of the most obtuse concepts in physics. We used to make jokes that the guy is splooging his pants just explaining to us what quantum entanglement means. That sheer joy in loving the science made not just me a forever geek who is passionate about physics, but I've since managed to make my kids love science too.
When I see Neil, or Bill Nye, I feel like yeah, as a Human Civilization, we still got a fighting chance. We are not altogether governed by a confederacy of dunces. We got folks who know shit too.
Love that guy. We desperately need more of that kinda people in every profession: Getting amazing sh*t done while keeping it real and being cool and funny a.f.
I’m studying mec engineering partly because of how excited Neil got me for physics and space!
Stay excited. Please
Good on you, mate! 🍻 And on Neil for inspiring you! Maybe one day you’ll inspire him back 😉 The universe is weird like that.
I just tell everyone I meet how much I hate Pluto.
My dad was a chemical engineer. Listening to Neil is like having a converataion with him again. (Check out the Order of the Engineer the Canadian Oath... I always get inspiration from it)
As long as you're inspired by his passion for physics and not his passion for sexual assault
Listening to NDT speak so passionately about science/space NEVER gets old! I try to listen every chance I get. His enthusiasm is infectious!!
And if I can listen fast enough, I might learn something! 😂
I love him, too!
You should probably sub to his show call Star talk. It’s awesome.
@@celestialanger7102 Thanks! I will.

I absolutely love Neil deGrasse Tyson's enthusiasm!
I would have loved to have him as a teacher! How fun.

I love when Neil deGrasse Tyson is on because he's not only informative he's very entertaining.
That's what makes him such a good ambassador.
He explains in a manner that non-scientists can comprehend.
He’s the perfect combination of scientist and storyteller
I love this man… I love the energy he brings to the room everytime!
Give the man Cosmos S3
100 % Agree ❗️
In some version of the multiverse, the WHOLE audience stood.
Why wouldn't they... is part of Colbert's audience part of the anti science crowd? If you come across coordinates and the tech to cross the barrier... I'm begging you! Take me with you!
The ones that didn’t are probably familiar with the sexual harassment articles. So maybe in a universion without the internet?
And in another... NO ONE STOOD!
and in another he was part of the audience, didnt understood any word he heard. Just clapping happily.

The universe seems neither benign nor hostile, merely indifferent. - Carl Sagan
actually it is pretty hostile, umimaginably hostile, to us. #1 problem, the universe is against organization, entropy will eventually average you from a fine organized specimen to a blob of... average.

...I like how the universe is one single entity.
Neil deGrasse Tyson rules! Loved his story about him meeting Carl Sagan as a young boy in another interview. He sure carries on the torch handed to him after Sagan died. Not only the series Cosmos but also to educate the public in a way even I can understand!

I think it is just marvelous that so many of us admire NDT. He has long been my second favorite physicist...my first is my son.
My son is in his 1st year studying this. It's not easy so if your son has any words of encouragement.
I think it's marvelous how we only admire men who treat women like shit.

I love him. Genius who brings the cosmos down to earth and makes hard to understand topics fascinating and easier to grasp. One of my favorite humans... And a genius
Him and Bill Nye should have a baby. Through science anything is possilbe!
How can someone be so energetic all the time.. i love this man !
For those who are curious about the scrubbed SLS launch attempts, it had fuel leakages because that's what molecular hydrogen does, it leaks everywhere. It's a new rocket, they'll figure it out eventually.
For those with a good memory this rocket's engines aren't new, they're from the space shuttle and they had the hydrogen thing pretty much figured out. Repeated scrubs for the same issue for proven engines isn't "give them a break" territory, it's "This is what you have to show after 11 years of development?" territory.
If a rocket gets to the launch stage like this and fails to launch once it's a technical issue they need to fix, more than 3 times and there's a serious issue.
What happens when they get to manned launches? 1 success in 4 isn't great for confidence building
@@SimielBlack The fuel is not leaking through the engines, it's leaking in the tubes and valves while filling the tanks (which *are* new)
@@randomdaveUK Nasa doesn't like to explode prototypes while developing a new rocket. They'll launch when everything is perfect. A scrubbed launch attempt is not a failure. But if it fails at launch, it's really bad. If it fails twice, the program is over
Neil is a National Treasure!!
I'd say he's a.... Universal treasure lol
Really !!!
Fantastic segment. No politics. No division. More of this please
But it WAS about politics. Specifically, how politics holds back scientific advances.
@@Wis_Dom not true..but whatever. Colbert is just a wingnut who has divided America under the guise of pretending to care about others. I would love to hear what he has to say about Pfizer's admission about the vaccine and it's apparent lack of effectiveness...hmmmm
His passion and his energy are contagious, this man is truly living his purpose, and thank God we are all alive and blessed enough to live during his lifetime! 😊
For every scientist on TV there are one hundred meh actors
Listening to Neil talk never gets old, everytime i hear him explain something; I always feel like I've learned something new or come out w/ a new understanding of a subject I thought I knew.
Watching Neil get fired up about science never gets old.
If more people were like him we'd probably be on Mars already... no geopolitical spurs needed.
if more people were like him maybe there'd be more assault allegations. just saying I used to be a fan of him but assault allegations plague him regardless of his scientific achievement which were important achievements at least for the education he completed for millions about physics. Never meet your heroes come to mind
I'm surprised he didn't tear apart the images and explain how the human eye would just see black.
Knowledge for its OWN sake. What a concept for an education-deprived former middle class...🙄

For decades now I've confounded my friends by saying "The more I learn, the more ignorant I get." Thank you, Neil, at last someone understands!
Neil just said almost verbatim a quote from einstein. "As our circle of knowledge expands, so does the circumference of darkness surrounding it"
@@diegog1853 Ah, Einstein, okay. Makes sense.

I liked this before I even watched it. Knew it was good.
Every time I listen to Neil deGrasse Tyson, I find it hard to believe that he is an astrophysicist - may be because he is so excited about it and he makes it sound like so much fun. Love that Niel does the "movie star" not the "tv star" entrance.
Yes!!!
Neil walks in like a movie star (as depicted by Stephen). Love it.
I thought I'd be very inspired by the Webb photos. That said, seeing the universe so clearly just makes it even more obvious how tiny we are. Seeing obviously warped spacetime makes it too easy to question our strange relative reality.

I've watched Dr.Tyson's several PBS' documentaries. What comes to mind is the glowing fashion that he recalls the efforts of Galileo Galilee's telescopic efforts and that astronomer's book, 'The Starry Messenger.'
