  • I met Tyler & Lexi at a tiny home Festival and had the good luck to film this tour with their awesome skoolie. I implemented a few of their ideas into my very own skoolie build. I hope you get some valuable from this video and have a great weekend.

    I love the photo clip line on the front of your schoolie, and especially your HOME IS WHERE WE PARK IT sign!😊 Great sense of design in that you kept the interior & curtains all white. It shows off the orange cushions and accent pillows beautifully! I don't have any good comments for the guy who sold you the bus; sounds like he could use some lessons in ethics. But you kids certainly have done wonders with it! Wishing a cute couple many years of HASSLE-FREE fun & adventure!

    At least someone talked about the motor on these videos. I always wanted to know what shape the motor was in when they bought the bus but no one ever talked about that part . I read that you only get 7-10 miles per gallon and that's according to the weight put inside the bus . LOVE THE FLOOR PLAN AND COLOR

Their home looks beautiful and I'm really glad they shared SO much info about where they got everything and how they installed everything! Converting into a schoolie sounds like a super scary, impossibly expensive yet still super awesome dream... until now!! They really put it into perspective budget wise! Propane bottles are designed to vent off propane when surrounding temperature rises (e.g on a hot day). Having propane bottle inside your living space is a HUGE SAFETY HAZARD 💥💥💥. Mount it OUTSIDE like other RVs do. It's done that way on purpose.

    The DT466E is better than today's emission diesels. Pretty well all diesel engines aren't cheap to repair but once you've repaired the injectors on the DT you'll get a lot of miles out of it. I agree you need to find a private shop that you can trust. I like the natural light with original windows and the manual door rocks! Our buses have air or electric motors running the entrance door and there are several air operated doors that don't work well in the cold weather. Sometimes old designs are far superior than modern ones that have too much technology and causes headaches. You two did a great job! :)

    Propane gas is heavy. It sinks lower than the air U are breathing, even on a sleeping bed level. It would be best to install the CO2 detector lower to the floor and closer to the actually propane tank. Drill a hole in the floor, cover it with a screen to keep bugs out, so the gas will drop straight out of the van in case of a leak. Seems the hole for gas to escape route* is just a European requirement; but it should be a propane use practice no matter where in the world one is installing propane... especially in a van, rv, tiny, mobile home. Thankhz for sharing... Wholeness n Love ((-;

      Na'im Asra El, That is so fascinating!!!! Thank you so much for sharing that! I will definitely pass this along to others! Do you know about how big the hole should be? Cold air sinks as well, so it really shouldn't even be a problem having a hole in the floor when it is cold outside and one is trying to stay warm on the inside! What a neat trick!

      Yes a plastic tray with a hose going though the floor so that the propane will exit that way would be great, my sailboat has the propane tank on the stern with a solenoid that you turn on from the galley so that gas can't leak inside.

    You do not need to take the governor off. You can take it to international and have them plug in and turn it up to 68. It will not hurt your transmission. Or if you do not want to do that, you can contact your insurance company and tell them your RV is governed at 55 mpg and they may lower your monthly fee, depending on your driving record.

    • @DylanBegazo
      @DylanBegazo Před 5 lety

      @@jwright650 I'd like to ask you a question in Lieu of your suggestion you posted here. What benefit would a 2 speed rear differential and a little bit of overdrive individually do for a schoolie?

    • @jwright650
      @jwright650 Před 5 lety +2

      @Catalyst - D B IMHO, having a little taller gearing on flat ground may give you a few more mph without spinning the engine faster, with split gearing in the rear, you could have lower gearing for steep hills and taller gearing for flat interstate travel without revving as high. I'm pretty sure the engine has enough torque to tug against a little higher gear out on the interstate. Of course if you gear too tall, it will be a slug.

    • @twob850
      @twob850 Před 5 lety +3

      @@jwright650 Additionally, by running a taller gear it can improve your MPG(on flat ground) by running at the same, or greater speeds, with lower RPM's.

    He pointed out about the overhead RV air conditioner not cooling very well, and the majority of the air coming out of the rear vent. This I have noticed on similar models. For the cost of those type units. I would rather install a small split system. You would mount the outside condenser on the rear of bus, possibly extending the rear bumper to accommodate unit. This is what I am going to do. His other ideas using simple accordion dividers for shower and toilet, are brilliant and in-expensive!

    Congratulations! You created a wonderful RV home. The original bus parts of the dash and the door are great! The wood looks calming and gives an open feel, in addition to the windows.
    I do have a couple of suggestions to keep you and your sweet cat safe. If you haven't already done this, please, please get your cat microchipped! Any vet will check a stray animal for a microchip for Free! Better safe than sorry! Also, if your cat doesn't have a collar and an I.D. tag, getting them can be the way to get him back in case the finder forgets or doesn't know about animals having microchip I.D.s. On another RV bus video, the owners got a fan and separate heater for their dog (or cat?) Which had a little bed on the floor near the passenger seat. They travelled in both cold and warm weather areas. They didn't use much power because they were designed for a small space. If you want, I can look through my CZcams video history and find that video for you.
    Maybe you can save for an alarm system for all of the windows and doors, including the original bus door. Get one with sound and bright lights all the way around. You can probably have it wirelessly connected to your phones for when you are out. Maybe some weather stripping can block incoming air through the door.
    I hope you do yourselves a big favor and invest in more solar panels and batteries. Proper light might be essential in case of emergency/injury for yourself and/or your cat. It's best to not wait until you need the strong light for an extended amount of time.
    Taking warm showers can be a regular experience with more power. Again, hot water might be needed in an emergency, like an injury or if your cat is injured, etc.. Once, I had a cat that went under my apartment house and came out covered in smelly, greasy gunk. The plumber had just left and my cat smelled like toxic material. I had to wash and thoroughly rinse him with warm water and soap (it was a battle but I won). If I had to wash him in cold water it would have been torture for him.
    You never know when you might really need hot water; you've been lucky, so far.
    Well, please take care, stay safe, and have fun! 😃
