Yeah this is about right. You have to decline a lot of orders when you start with DD especially… otherwise you’ll be dropping $5/orders 10-20/miles. No joke I just took a screenshot of one today. I wish I could post it here but trust me… if you’re new and you just accept everything you won’t make any money. I used up almost a 1/2 tank on a shift once and only made $31.50 over 3/hours

I once saw a young kid in chipotle doing doordash, and he looked so frustrated, tired and defeated. I had randomly got $20 cash back from the grocery store I just left. I never ever do that. So I felt like god wanted me to give it to him and make his day better. I genuinely think it did. His face and body language just changed so much. I’m in Baltimore, and I know too well the choices young black men have here to make money the wrong way. I told him keep doing what you’re doing and it’ll get better. This just brought me back to that day. Idk why.

I did my 2nd door dash shift tonight. I worked 4 hours on each and made about 55 bucks each shift. I'm a teacher and need money for summer. It's higher hourly pay than retail or fast food and I get to choose when I feel like working and can take breaks when I need to. Plus it's fun to jam out in my car zipping around town. I'm going to keep doing it for the rest of summer and then probably on some weekends and school breaks.

I would love to see a video that walks me and talks me through a full door dash after the fact... so record it in the moment, leave that hard to focus background music out, and talk me slowly through the process of an order coming in - what do you look at, what helps you to decide whether to take the order or not, what are the things you consider? Once you take the order, talk us through the details of how the app works from there. My first order took me forever to figure out how to do everything in a timely manner and I ended up getting tagged as not having delivered it on time, when in fact, I had delivered it at least 5-10 minutes early. Also, where do you put your purse? Some of the areas I deliver to are not the most trustworthy and full of character, integrity, and respect. I worry about my purse when I jump out to run a delivery up to a house.
Things I found hard to figure out on my first day dash today:
    1. How do I look at the screen and know whether it is worth my time and drive?
    2. How do I know what the full amount of miles will be?
    3. Once finished, do I drive back toward a hotspot to pick up another delivery or stay where I'm at?
    4. Is there a way to tell where I'm being sent ahead of time? (I live in Indiana and it sent me across the border to a rough neighborhood in Illinois today. I grew up in a neighborhood like that and I know what goes on. I was not prepared and should never have been over there.)
    5. How do you go into the app and send the customer a text? Are you doing this through the app or through your own text message?
    6. I actually live in a rough and unsafe area... How do I drive to a safer area where I can work? Do I have to find the hotspot or can I just go to the area and then pick up orders from there?
    7. What app or process do you use for tracking mileage, vehicle maintenance, etc?
    8. I know I'm missing some things. For a type A - Highly sensitive personality and a total introvert (functional introvert but nonetheless...), I was a little overwhelmed with it all. I wish I could have had time to play in a "test" version to really learn my way around the app and figure out how to navigate it but because they don't offer that, I need a video that at least takes the time to show these things - and preferably, a previously recorded dash that has been gone back through and voiced over to explain everything...

I just started doing DoorDash this week because my area in Oklahoma just got it and I like it. Everyone is asking me about it so I tell them straight up what I think and how it is. I have a full time job and this extra money I’m going to save up. Doesn’t hurt to give a little to get something back. I used to be a pizza delivery driver at 2 different places and I loved that so in a way this is the same thing. So it’s a win win situation once you think about it.

Walmart uses Door Dash for groceries. I am happy with it, and I tip generously, if you are not mean and nasty. So far I only had one crazy Dasher, and he was not tipped. I do feel people should tip extra for heavy or large orders, or Walmart should include the
tip, so you do not have to climb 3 floors or more, unless you pay extra. No one should not tip, unless you get a super disrespectful crazy, that is angry at the start.

I literally left a $21/hr job with bonuses (avg. $800/week) I liked last night because of a violence threat from a coworker. "If you call me kid one more time were gonna step outside, FOR REAL!" He says to me. Its like the fifth time he has snapped at me. I gave them a statement, no one wanted me to leave and I was literally crying and screaming in my car on the way out. Like, we ALL knew its not my fault. They even said in email I'd be welcomed back. I just cant stomach that stuff because I have, and would rather sleep in the woods or a shelter than deal with violence at home or ANYWHERE else. Because thats where you end up. Homeless or in jail. Thats just unforgivable. My weekend job at dunkin is closing the location ironically at the same time. 2 jobs ending for me.
Luckily a co worker of mine mentioned her daughter just left a job and does doordash and makes a lot. One thing Ive had to deal with over the years is letting people get in the way of my income. This has happened to so, SO many jobs of mine. No need to fire someone if you can drive them to quit.
I think this is what I need. I work fine on my own. Anyone who has known me loves my work ethic. Someone gets in my way? My whole budget plan is now up in the air. I wont tolerate the abuse for 2 seconds. Its sickening, the kind of people in this world that make your work life absolute shit. This seems great and I watched the whole video. Thanks for posting. Once you get an order and pick it up, go directly to their house! You can’t pick up multiple orders unless doordash sends you a 2nd order. Sometimes nearby restaurants and nearby houses from your first initial order, doordash will ask you if you want to pick up a 2nd order bc it’s close by but only then would you be able to do that. The 17.5 hrs. is probably total time logged on. All of the food delivery apps are busy when you would expect them to be...Breakfast, lunch, and dinner time. You will get orders in between, but not nearly as many. Weekends are busier than weekdays, and if you work later at night (after 10), you will probably be doing nothing but fast food because in a lot of areas, they are the only places open late. If you focus on only working during the busier times, you can easily average $20+ per hour.
