- With the release of Lego CMF Series 26, we got more throw back minifigures, such as Iceplanet, M-Tron, Blacktron, and Galaxy Squad. So lets dive into this series and take a look at the how the new figures compare to the old and how they fit into the greater universe of Lego Space.
Thanks to Chris Perron who designed the new iceplanet Helmet for sharing some insights about the Iceplanet figure with me:

I like the idea that wrench from space police is essentially a hired mercenary or terrorist that attacks police. Space police was a dark line when ya think about it.
It really was😂
Also the fact that Brick Daddy is literally a pimp 😂
@@Luke_SkywaIker or the fact that all the police are human and all the villains are aliens.
But are they? Are there not also similarities that Wrench may have also been mutated from human…
@@logancrawford5379 Yeah, on one hand it's being played safe, since there are no known alien groups that would be offended, on the other hand, it's a fairly common metaphor in various science fiction works.
(I prefer the villains of SPIII to the police, though. All the villains have personal styles, while the police are without any individual personalities...)
A Space Hospital Ship set with doctors and medbots tending to all factions including the bad guys would be a great moral lesson for kids. I can imagine all sorts of funny scenes as the doctors are dealing with stubborn criminals and flailing tentacled aliens. A great scene would be a horrific mutant cyborg being properly healed up with a look of joy on their face.
That would definitely be a fun moc to make!
"HR had to step in..." Love it! Awesome that you got to talk to the designer. Great work.
I’m not going to lie was pretty proud of that HR bit😂
I literally laughed at that part and then I immediately looked at the comments and this was the first one!
Really like how most of the space themes all connect, I think it would be great to see something like a revamp for the sets like they did with the castle. Or maybe a modernised GWP.
Agreed! It would be really cool to see!
The connection, yeah. It's been a deliberate marketing concept since Lego started designing factions in the mid-80's, in sets, battlepacks and advertisements, at least until the mid-90's or so.
i think that triangle symbol might be the logo of a robot manufacturer
I was thinking the same thing!
"This synthetic was brought to you by Legoland Duplotani, building better bricks."
My lesser theory is that wherever the symbol is, it's on a panel that can be opened, either for maintenance, changing batteries, etc.
The charm of the classic figures was their simplicity. The extra detail can sometimes almost act as camouflage. That said I love the creativity in expanding the lore behind these themes with the extra details in this series rather than just trying carelessly one up the originals. Very well done. Usually my first impression is pretty spot on but I wasn't big on these until this video, these are great.
Glad to hear I changed your mind! I agree sometimes I can be a 1 up contest but I think when it adds new value like these do it’s amazing! Also some great new parts to use with the originals!
As soon as I saw the blacktron mutant leak I thought it was the same character as the evil villain. Seems like his whole base was attacked by an alien mutagen and he had to amputate half his body to stop the spread. Leaving him the only survivor. Perfect villain origin story.
Maybe
I am actually glad the Ice Planet CMF was so well designed when it comes to armor and the helmet, most because the helmet could work great for Fallout based MOCs
Your attention to details and knowledge is very entertaining to watch. I was just about to go to bed when I saw you had uploaded a new video and couldn't resist watching it :)
I bought 25 minifigs of series 26 today and will pick up another 20-30 of the Ice-planet and M-Tron as those seem to lend themselves best for army building.
Thank you so much!
Dam that will be awesome!
i want a full ice planet line up of sets........
Yes and I want Chris to help with them😂 because some of his Mocs would be amazing as sets!
Sameeee
A fun and interesting video, especially liked the part regarding the logic behind the new ice planet minifig. As for references, 1 youtube I follow found one here 3:39 the triangular shapes
on Black Tron fig back, that's probadly an Alien conquest reference, cause that's the same symbol as one of the medals on Alien commander chest. This theory was that this "mutation" is probadly an DNA incetion given by the alien invaiders, either as a gift, or this Black Tron member was used like a lab rat.
Thank you! I thought those details were two interesting not to share!
That’s an interesting theory!
@@BrickingUpBradI think vampires would refer to it as "turned", both a blessing and a curse...
4:31 out of all these ice planet is my favorite
1. The blue, white, and orange color combo is just peak.
2. It feels like the previous idea but upgraded! Like very utilitarian and purpose built.
3. The previous point just allows for more creativity, headcannon, and imagination.
What if the chainsaw is used to hack away at the ice? What if the robot penguin is not only used for emergencies but also to carry and transport samples of ice or other info, like they do in Antarctica. I love how there are details you wouldn’t notice til you look deeper such as cleats for extra traction.
Very cool!
A man of culture, I see
I sort of remembered that ice planet existed a few months ago and was feeling really nostalgic for it and now i feel like im seeing it everywhere and im loving it
M-Tron and Ice Planet were two of my favorite SPACE lines, great to see them back as CMFs. Especially love the updated details for the uniforms, and a power lifting device suits M-Tron being the engineers perfectly. Also giving an in-theme explaination for the chainsaw being a different color is great.
Couldn't agree more!
I love this video! I‘m too young to remember most of these old space themes but I do have some of the minifigures. now I‘ll definitely get these updated ones because it’ll be fun to display them side by side!
Glad to hear it! I mean with out the originals these figures are still awesome!
Im loving this cmf
Right so good!
Its so cool watching revamps of the classic space themes. Subbed!
Right! Can’t wait to see what they do next!
One of your best yet, Brad. Props to you for all of your research!
Awesome videos
I love this series
The ice planet minifigure is my favorite, the insight behind it is great
So many cool references
Brick fanatics interviewed the designers of this series, there's even more insight there
Glad you like it!
I should check out that interview!
I Perked up like a dog when Rock Raiders was mentioned
I knew some people were going to get excited by that😂
I own the M-Tron, Ice Planet Explorer, and Blacktron figures and I’ve always enjoyed it when Lego remakes these figures as a I missed out when they were on shelves so it’s a nice piece of Lego history to have
The remakes are always a ton of fun!
It looks like the new mutated Blacktron guy could be a previous version of the one with the metal peg leg. He just amputated his arm, leg and a part of his right face half to stop the mutation from spreading further.
Could be but I think they are separate
@BrickingUpBrad the yellow triangle logo reminds me of the triforce from zelda
@BrickingUpBrad the yellow triangle logo reminds me of the triforce from zelda
Great video and I love the interview makes the fig much more understandable! And I think even with out the designers insight the fig made sense.
I agree you don’t need it but it it shows some cool insights
Great video! I really enjoyed the designer insight. Keep it up. 💯
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
I’m glad to hear the desinger played Rock Raiders as a kid. I hope we’ll see more Rock Raiders Easter eggs or possibly a future CMF based on my favorite theme!
Right I would love a rock raiders figure!
Great video. I love this series. And because of you, I noticed that I had the 1x2 plate with the hazard lines on the power lifter on backwards. Even cooler now!
😂😂 definitely looks better that way lol
Awesome video!! This might be my favorite CMF line so far. I hope we get more themed ones in the future (castle, pirates, named characters, etc.)
That ice planet fig is incredible
Agreed! I’m guessing a castle one will come soon!
One about imperial factions directly would be fire!
@@BrickingUpBrad The upcoming D&D line could probably classify as "Castle-ish"...
Tbh I wished they did a throwback to Space Police from 2009-2010 or Alien Conquest. I loved those themes as a kid and it would've been nice to get a reference to acknowledge that they still exist and have continued on.
Great work dude. Nice meeting you at the brick universe event!
It was great meeting you at BU to! Glad you enjoyed the video!
I LOVE this insight! Great video 🔥
Thank you!!
I remember the Mtron and Ice Planet! I'm planning to get the Ice Planet for nostalgia sake! 9:45 Used to have that snowmobile set too!
The only complained I got is they don't have the alien from the UFO line! Loved the alien helment as they were kinda like Predator helment!
Hi Brad! Glad to say I got 2 of them so far! I got the alien (black body with stars) and then I got the blacktron mutant!
NICE!
I grew up in the 80's with Classic Space but entered my dark times when Lego introduced the various factions in the late 80's & 90's so I missed out on all that amazing stuff which is why I really appreciate it when you dive into this stuff on your channel including Castle as well. I'm lovin it!😊
Glad to hear! I really love helping people relive the nostalgia or learn about what else was out there!
I can't wait to pick these guys up for myself. I've seen so many people report early retail CMF distributions, but the store here haven't stocked them yet.
I got mine early and then have been pretty well stocked!
Fantastic video, Brad! And +1 to the Rock Raiders request! 😊
Thank you so much! I knew you would appreciate the rock raiders mentions in this video! I do feel like it’s only a matter of time before we get some sort of rock raiders reference😂
Im a huge castle theme fan but Ice Planet is my only space theme that I really love! 🤍🖤💙🧡
It’s so good!
What camera do you use? it captures your figures really well on a close scale.
A6500 but it’s really more about the lens. I need to get a macro lens eventually which really shows off minifigures well
I honestly think that this might be one of if not the best CMF series of all time. So many awesome throwbacks, as well as excellent new and unique figures to boot! (Also, two more references are the Alien Tourist’s resemblance to the Classic Alien from Series 6, and the Alien Beetlezoid’s resemblance to the Insectoids from Galaxy Squad.)
Yeah it’s a great line! (The beetleziod connection is the first thing I talk about in this video😉)
@@BrickingUpBrad Indeed it is. It seems I somehow managed to completely forget this information within less than 11 minutes. My bad!
The robot chef also references the old 1x2 computer screen brick, and the 1x2 tape tile from the 80s and 90s.
And on the Lego Store Build-A-Minifig bins there are currently a new torso referencing the Futuron theme. (For some reason, all the Futuron/ Space Police torso shout-outs have been redesigns, while all Classic Space torso shout-outs have kept the original design. Don't know if the gold print is considered too expensive, and Futuron is considered too niche, or something...)
The ice planet explorer gives me Subnautica below zero vibes ! especialy with the pinguin XD
😂
Not Sure if anyone has mentioned this but there is another fig with that triangle with the line under it. The alien prisoner has it on his chest as well. That was in the same cmf as the classic space police fig! Just a helpful note! Enjoyed the vid!
I bunch of people have pointed that out. It definitely looks like it but it’s a dotted line not a straight line that’s my only thing.
I never had many space themed sets. My parents focus was on city and castle. And by the time I could chose sets I already had substantial numbers of those sets so I kept expanding those 2 universes.
But I did get the smaller Ice planet sets and 2 of Mtron and 2 Blacktron2 sets. I love the inclusion of these figures a lot.
I got lucky on my random boxes. I could have went to store and scanned but didn't. I got 3 of the Ice planet 2 Mtron and 1 Blacktron2 figure. And a double for the girl with Pug. The rest I only need the bug and stellar shielded figure.
That is awesome!
And those are some great pick ups!
Nice vid as always
Glad you enjoyed it!
Mining, Machining, Maintenance, and Magnets - M-Tron!
2:27 - What a coincidence, my brother's BT2 set Supernova II, and my Spectral Starguider.
Anyone else keep reading the 37* (C =98.6F) as LE on the Robot Nurse's arm?
So in different countries m tron had different jobs!
Yeah I keep thinking it’s LE to🤣
@@BrickingUpBrad Oh, I was just testing an alliterative slogan for M-Tron. I ran out of M things.
@@rahlmaclaren1478 OHH that makes sense lol. I thought you were qouting a magazine description lol
I'm not a fan of the new Blacktron mutant leg, because we have no way to make a custom non-mutant version of the Blacktron with the printed legs. We either have one printed leg and have to use an unprinted one (as you show), or just have both legs unprinted. I just wish both legs were printed like the M-Tron figure.
I can definitely understand that.
Honestly i kinda dig the asymmetry of the legs it makes
I really like this CMF series! It pays tribute to classic space but with updated prints and molds
For sure!
This reminds me of characters like solomon blaze and Brains. Solomon was first in Galaxy squad, then as an older character in Ultra agents. And Brains was first in Power miners and then again in Atlantis. I loved getting sets from those themes as a kid and being surprised to find out that it was the same character
Right! Love it when Lego does cross overs like that!
Would have loved to see some insectoids or UFO throwbacks from the 90s, those were some of my first sets as a kid. But overall I’m really happy with this series
I honestly really love this set the minifigure are quite good! I love it!
Right they did a fantastic job on them!
I love these figures (and hate love the blacktron one ... such a good remake, but it's not going to have a full 2 legs with print for the final non mutant for - and the mutant parts are great as well - such a shame not to be able to have them separately as well).
Can't wait to get my hands on the remake ones. Especially the Mtron powerloader. Nobody tried to make it use 2 of those crane arms ? I think it would look great.
I can definitely understand that.
I have done the two arms with the power lifter! Looks awesome!
@@BrickingUpBrad Can't wait to get 2 of them myself to try it. Sadly they were sold out before 12 on may 1st in my country ... I suspect these will be very HOT. And for good reason.
You should have a look at the 3 BAM space minifigs. Love the green headed one
Great work Brad!
Glad you liked it!
Fantastic video!
Thank you!
10:28 that triangle with a line can also (kind of) be found on the front of the torso of the alien from series 21.
The alien vacationer definitely reminds me of the old gray alien, could just be a common design trope though, would be interesting if they were the same species, though..
Another reference I found is that the alien tourist kid seems to be the same species as the series 6 alien. don’t ask me why they suddenly started wearing clothes tho XD
Yes I noticed that to😂😂
@@BrickingUpBrad Could be the son of the original Alien, with the distancing wariness having been replaced by open fascination and idolization, similar to Digger Kelvin being the daughter of Doctor Kelvin
Welcome to the lego lineup pink space baby
3:54 right side* :D
Great video Brad!
It all depends on perspective 😉
I don’t know if you have heard but I heard a new color for the classic spacemen might be a teal color or maybe a gold spaceman if not I was just wondering and curious like why we didn’t get a new color with this series
I have a feeling we will get a new color soon and I’m guessing there was a very good reason we didn’t get a new color with this line.
Lego just announced the upcoming ideas sets, one of them is a minifigure machine. There will be voting soon to vote for a new classic space color and a new castle faction logo
10:42 i believe this logo appears on some Lego City astronauts
sad there was no unitron throwback, but we did get that one Stuntz bike guy that could have been a remake of them (60358 ). great content from BUB as always! love watching your stuff!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
@@BrickingUpBrad Unitron was barely marketed and sold outside of North America. That could have played a part.
I’ve been trying to figure out what happened to Black Tron thank you
Glad to help!
I would love if Lego continued doing this, I would like to see power miner mini figs or Atlantis mini figs would be so nice
Oh that would be awesome!
Good video!
The line with the triangle also appears on Jay's motorcycle from crystalized
castle and space lore! woot
All day long!
M-Tron Revisted is probably the best minifig from this batch. It perfectly translates the original spirit, while having its own identity.
It is definitely in my top 2!
As a proud master of Spyrius Guardian Robot I'd like to see new minifigs of those superagents.
That would be cool!
The ice planet helmet is clearly inspired by Star Trek's Breen.
I can see that
I personally would've liked to see a new classic spaceman color (possibly teal)
The nurse droid has a battery symbol on her the back of her head or torso that is the same symbol as the battery pieces from the 2024 lego city space sets
Next blind box series needs to be movie themed so they can repaint the Beetlezoid head into a Xenomorph.
lol
Never agreed with how Black Tron keeps evolving into cliche looking bad guys, instead of panning them into a different space explorer faction. As a kid, I always saw the first blacktron wave as the covert military/defense arm of the coloured space explorers.
I mean they were always criminals in the original two themes. There is so much pointing to that. They were never explorers.
@@BrickingUpBrad - I get your point, it's factual from the Lego text. But for me, the first wave was too cool to be the bad guys, and their original vehicles and base still had that explorer foundation. That said, I meant that I don't like the cliche evil look with mutants and creatures still being incorporated into Black Tron.
There's some awesome figs there for sure! Not looking forward to how expensive the Ice Planet one will be on the aftermarket though😔. I wish they'd just make some proper throwback themes so we could have some cheap polybag figs.
Yeah that ice planet figure is going to go for a lot but thankfully it’s cheap right now.
Love that Lego is giving love to older space themes but wish they’d just bring them back in sets anyways I needed up with 19 ice planet soldiers and 17 alien bugs and a couple of the other minifigs from the wave today
I think we just got to be happy for now that some designers are trying to give us figures, so we can create our own Mocs with them!
Feels like those figures are from future in space cmf universe.
I can see that.
11:25
What set was the white baby from?
It was from an April gwp can’t remember the name.
11:16 part 6466286 is on pick a brick!
At some point I want to! I didn’t realize me not having the BRAND NEW green classic space helmet was going to be something so many people commented about😂😂😂
I'd have loved to see shootouts to Insectoids, UFO and exploreans, but honestly just getting a new ice planet figure is awesome enough!
Agreed! Those would have been cool to see!
@@BrickingUpBrad And Futuron. More colors with the original golden zipper!
I'm curious to see what a CMF of a Mar Mission alien would be!
(The astronauts would of course be a normal astronaut with a bit of orange, and that's no fun at all)
That would be really cool if they did something with that theme!
I feel like the Impostor minifig might be a reference to the "Alien Conquest" theme
I don’t think so. It’s more men in black
Something I noticed is that the triangle with a line under it also appears on the torso of the space prisoner CMF. Not sure what the implication of that is
That one is similar but different.
I absolutely love the Lego Ice Planet figure. The armor and helmet give me Brotherhood of Steel power armor from Fallout.
Yeah it’s super cool!
Anyone else get the feeling the Ice Planet minifig looks like a Marine from Doom 3?
I love this series but I’d have liked the ufo aliens or the unitron as they are a very prized monorail set! Exploriens & Spyrius also would be good for the future.
Those definitely would have been great to see!
The series is awesome but I miss a remake of the Spyrius Droid.
That would have been cool if they did that!
@@BrickingUpBrad There was a sort of upgrade to the Spyrius/ Explorers droids included in the small Creator set 31111 Cyber Drone.
The series 21 alien criminal also has the triangle line logo on his chest
It’s simile but different
4:37 look mom im famous
Also love the channel
Thank you!
I’ve planet reboot nowwwww I love ice planet and I need a reboot also the symbol on the robot is also on the alien on series 21
Agreed! Would be so cool!
It’s a similar but diffrent symbol.
I have parts of the old ice planet and m tron
the astronaut figure seems to be in refrence to lego city space subthemes, which I though ws cool
I mean it’s a reference to normal astronauts. There is a long list of historically correct asstranuasts in the cmf line.
The ice explorer reminds me of the power armour from fallout
Thank you for explaining the back story about the first space alien. The Alien fits perfectly for Galaxy Squad and not Insectoid which many where saying 😒
Right! Like just because it’s an insect does not mean it goes with insectiods. They are very different groups.
Theory: The blacktron mutant is the same person as the blacktron villain, my theory is that blacktron amputated is arm, leg, and gave him a cyborg face. He may look normal again, but his mind will always be mutated....
Neon Color Substitution
I wish the M-tron visor could have been color swapped as they did with the Ice Chainsaw.
maybe something like transparent yellow, or that dark trans green seen in Dreamz Z-blob.
making it a Print instead of a Physical part really changes the shape of the helmet and looks wrong to me.
1:49 Ouch.
Got to practice safe lifting methods 👍
@@BrickingUpBrad Yeah, lift with your exoskeleton.
If they do another space series, I'd like to see them do the classic trope of an alien coming out of an asteroid. maybe do the breaking open rock element that's dual molded with trans green.
That would be awesome!
@@BrickingUpBrad It would be sweet, although there might not be enough space in the CMF package for that, alas. Possibly there could be some polybag or something.
The blacktron triangle logo is literally the Triforce from Legend Of Zelda
They actually both came out around the same time
@@BrickingUpBrad Fischer Sports has had a "Triforce" logo since 1958. Apparently, the same symbol was found on the graves for old Japanese clans, might be the oldest attestation.
The symbol is probably the logo of the robot manufacturing company who built all those robots!
I was thinking something similar!
This series has 0 bad figures!
Agreed!
