I'm watching a video of a guy starting a Peterbilt on a cold morning. God help me, I love this stuff.................Nice truck! Kool vid, thanks for posting it! PS.........An engine block heater would take the "sport/fun" out of it!
Nothing like the growl of a big cam engine:-). I work for Cummins in a shop, it's my absolute favorite sound next to that of a K19. One of my favorite drivers has an old cabover that he rebuilt and he had us rebuild his old 855 for him, it was a fun project to work on (from the parts department perspective). I also love the N14's. Emissions has ruined reliability in truck engines, you're better off going out and buying an older rig with an older pre-emmisions engine and running that way.
30 degress isnt cold. Come to canada. We get -50 in the winter. Way colder. My dad had a 2007 Pete 379 long nose. Sexiest truck on the road. But then again. All petes are sexy. Nice truck man
@Paul Jersey @luvtotruck---I don't know how I got into COLD STARTS...but I LOVE THEM too! Kenworths, air starts, trains, anything diesel. Something about seeing the BEAST AWAKEN! Like a lion's roar air starters roar into action...cold starts see a rise...you cheer it on.. like it's "The little diesel that could" and you cheer when it starts!
This guy didn’t do to much wrong other than Reving up the engine before it was warm 1. These trucks don’t have block heaters unless aftermarket installed 2. Glow plugs and grid heaters don’t exist on these engines 3. Fuel timing is fixed or step timing which is why it won’t start as easy as a common rail 4. Basically your best friend is 4 good group 31 batteries and a light dose of ether. Big cams aren’t the worst cold starting engines, but say it’s really cold and you left it outside.Hold it at half throttle, start cranking, about 5 seconds in, give it a 1.5 second shot of fluid. It should fire and run, let it rev up to about 1500, then immediately let it idle down slowly to about 900. Don’t let off to quick or it’ll choke and die
dude i cold started a kenworth w900L dumptruck last week. it had sat for all winter outside. it cranked for a bit..started..ran rough for about 30 secs..then she calmed down and purred like a kitten! now THATs a good truck! and why the hell are you revving the hell out of it cold...you lookin to throw some rods?
Its a diesel so most likely changing the oil is optional, it just didn't start b/c diesels need a warm engine block b/c the fuel is ignited by air temp. Not spark plugs like in an unleaded engine, and I think GLOWPLUGS ASSIST in a cold start-up, not sure EXACTLY on what the glowplugs do, just that they do something like that, btw I'm only 14 and I may be wrong on the plugs.
alec glass in what world do you exist? Cummins is one of the best cold starting engines ever. Cat used heui which is a shitty injection system. They don’t start bad either, but keep in mind that this truck was working before on road cats even existed
@maddoxde 2 things. not available in north america, and 2 if it were sitting a month in the cold i think if would be a bit more than that. especially if it were 36 years old liek this one. id rather have this peterbilt to be honest
No offense, but You should have let the glow-plugs hit twice so it would have warmed the cylinders a bit first, then it would start a lot easier, especially when it’s that cold outside. Nice rig though!
No shit! My old man would have ripped into me so bad I would have never been able to drive anything nice after that especially only 3 minutes in and yer full throttle then getting on the Jakes? Fuckin hell...😬
my dad drove one of these for a quarry when I was little. boy did that thing roar. hearing this one fire up brought back so many good memories.
Just Cause Its Smokin
Dont Mean Its Broken!
+Game Bred Duramax amen
its like u woke up a pissed of bear out of hybernation
Has to be one of the best and badass truck's I've ever heard! Every truck should sound like or close to this truck IMO
A beautiful old Peterbilt Truck, the Cummins Diesel Sound is very nice ! 😎👌 Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
Good damn batteries!!!
3:45 the trucks trying to talk "HAAAAUUUMMMM" The truck has spoken

Woooooohweeeee lol ain't nothing like tha Old Skool Baby!! 10-4!!
Nice truck
That's a great cold start. I like cold starts for some unknown strange reason. Great looking truck?
I LOVE THE SOUND!
That's a good looking rig.
Lets rev up a cold motor just after starting.
i love cold start!!!
Replace the fuel lines, it would start a lot easier.
great video !!
you need to make some more vids of this pete but actually driving lol would love to hear it on the road

Awesome!
this is why the world is getting to warm. xD
***** but why goods are being delivered too ;)
Old Cummins NT engines weren't no power house but they sure do sound good. We have a 76 autocar with a 290NT
good hell use a block heater ! what a way to take the life away from an engine...
Here is a true cold start!,thanks.
that thing sure is cranky in the morning!
defitnely a cold hearted one, mine does the same when cold out
Those stacks just look oh-so right.

Classic 359
nice...
Super,,,
HEE! The camera moving at 1:10 - 2:00 made it even better! :D
you aint kiddin. especially a cold start in a big truck
Plug it in man!
I cringed when it reved to the moon when you started it it's not good for that poor truck still sounded awesome though.
My dad would have beat my ass and made me drive the shittiest truck we had if I did that.🤨
I think there was the "Excess Fuel" button pressed...
Super.....
@boosteddiesel thats what I was thinking, wonder if he is trying to say is has cut pistons "de-compressed"

I'll bet those cables were hot after that first cranking session?
Fucking badass
At 30 degrees at CAT would start.
cool at first i didnt think it was goin to start
He should have given it some throttle from the beginning.
Yessuhhhhhh🥰🥰🥰🥰‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
@phantomH109 true enoguh but thrown rods are thrown rods...expensive as hell to fixxx :(
It's either to check the oil or you thought somebody stole your engine.
yep
1:07 to 1:12 holy SHIT THAT WAS A BEAST
thats what a fuckin truck should sound like non of this clean emmissions quietes diesel
Ain't the same anymore with 4 stroke diesel. A 2 stroke you can hear the power and is unmatched.
freedom of speech this is a four stroke
Cold start
Nothin' purrs like a Cummins! Even though I prefer Detroits, lol!
1:09 well damn
What do you do differently to start a truck like that. Seems like it was not going to turn over.
Aren't you ment to rev them a bit when you start them in very cold conditions. To keep them from cutting out.
@TheDavidpayne older diesels before they came out with the new emmisions crap, they pumped a lot of fuel in them things lol
@biggle1wiggle well obviously its not optional to change the oil on a diesel how else would it be lubed
haha i love 1:08 haha just stands on it xD
It had no trouble turning over.
No revving, just a cold start.
era lo que necesitaba acelerarlo para que se mantuviera encendido
Only thing wrong with cummins is they don't like the cold unlike caterpillar
alec glass in what world do you exist? Cummins is one of the best cold starting engines ever. Cat used heui which is a shitty injection system. They don’t start bad either, but keep in mind that this truck was working before on road cats even existed
No smoke, thanks.
what kinda horsepower you pushin, nice truck
@maddoxde 2 things. not available in north america, and 2 if it were sitting a month in the cold i think if would be a bit more than that. especially if it were 36 years old liek this one. id rather have this peterbilt to be honest
She purrs
@Sneighke
Whatever it is, it just added to it. XD (i'm strange, so help me lol)
Do you have any mufflers/resonators? Are you running the quiet spool stacks?
@windjammer226 I wish you'd make a vid of it
What CPL engine is in that truck?
thats on bad truck
cant use ether on a diesel engine bud. but they do make it for diesels.
you got a blockage in that left pipe?
and acts a certain way
no glow plugs?
Block heater. Wtf
@phantomH109 Phantom I got a cpl 1185 looking to do some mods how much horsepower are you putting out?
sounds like the ground cables are a little small , get bigger negative cables
No offense, but You should have let the glow-plugs hit twice so it would have warmed the cylinders a bit first, then it would start a lot easier, especially when it’s that cold outside.
Nice rig though!
Hahaaahahaa glow plugs oh my son you’ve got so much to learn
Ever heard of a thing called engine-block heater?? :-D
what size of stacks are those?
3:28 & 3:47 ...how can you do this effect?
works well for the new pope
glad he dont start anything of mine
No shit! My old man would have ripped into me so bad I would have never been able to drive anything nice after that especially only 3 minutes in and yer full throttle then getting on the Jakes? Fuckin hell...😬
what she runnin for hoses
smoky :P
old goody's :P
