That was a fantastic recap!! I didn’t realize how messy that yard style looked until you made the changes. I enjoyed both versions of the garden but definitely prefer your take.

Wow it’s a huge improvement. I’m surprised it didn’t have landscape lighting before. The house really has great bones and you & Tommy breathed new life into it.
Absolutely astounding! The changes you’ve made in such a short time are amazing and such an improvement; I absolutely love what you’ve done. Removing the potager was the right thing to do; the yard is too small for a large section to be just “decorative.” Now it’s both attractive and functional… and your own design. You and Tommy have such talent. It will be fun to watch you continue beautifying and personalizing this property, both inside and out! P.S. Removing the fence to open the backyard was the best decision.

Its your house, not Linda's. she also did not leave her house or property as a shrine to the former owners. Its the way of the World. While I appreciate both styles, I much prefer the serenity of your style. Keep up the good work.

I really like everything you've done to the house and the yard. My most favorite thing is the backyard. My second, but almost a tie with the backyard, is the old laundry room. I love the wallpaper in there. Happy New Year Year

I just love your new walking path in the front yard. Beautiful. Hard edging such a clean addition to the beds then accented with the boulders. Love it. I miss your flower arrangements. New fencing such a good definition for your property. Kitchen garden/flower area and the raised beds. You and Tommy are not afraid of hard work. Love the Indian/southwest wallpaper in the bar area. Linda's style of gardening was a great inspiration to me as I transformed my own yard into a new garden. That being said, I love your updates and all the improvements you have made both inside and out. The openess in both yards is very appealing in its spaciousness. Congratulations! You made me laugh when you said, “And that’s when some people lost their minds.” 😃 It’s good that you’re making the changes you need for your life. I wasn’t ever a huge fan of the potager because it’s a small space and it really limited what could be done there, so that didn’t surprise me at all that you changed it. The two things I might not have changed were the kitchen cabinet color and moving the washer and dryer downstairs. But, I absolutely love the new cabinet color, even more than the green, and I love the countertops and the sink, etc. too. The only reason I wouldn’t have moved the washer and dryer to the basement are the stairs because I am old, lol. But I love your new back entry. I think, if it were me, old as I am, I would have moved the washer and dryer upstairs somewhere so they would be even closer to where the laundry is, but you can still do that one day if you want and in the meantime you have that great space by the door. I think you have done an amazing job and kudos to you!🎉🎉🎉

Same! The writing was on the wall when Linda had to construct a sun shade for the potager; it was definitely starting to boss her around 😂
When we built our house the laundry went upstairs with all the bedrooms. What was the laundry is a very nice walk-in pantry. If we decide to age in this house, we may need a chair lift for the stairs.
@@debbienolan611We debated on moving them upstairs but that was more $$ and we dont mind the stairs at our age. Plus, we would have lost space upstairs somewhere. We would probably have had to go smaller stackable and I didn’t want that. In 30 years I’m sure we will have to think about the stairs but everything can be changed! Ultimately, my thoughts were, we dont mind the stairs and nothing can be ruined in the basement should the washer or connections leak. My biggest fear is having water damage to the original flooring. We have to think about things that cant be replaced if damaged or things that would be very expensive to replicate from 100 years ago.
@@SydneyDorman retrofitting is more difficult than deciding before building. Ours sit on drain pans to prevent water issues. My sister-in-law lives in an Oder home in Chicago and when they moved their from the basement to the top floor they looked into a ventless dryer to save money.

Sydney..I heard you mention your screens and thinking about painting them…definitely never do that. We have a local guy here in NW Arkansas who does re-screening for about $10-20 per screen so consider getting them redone from silver metal to black nylon mesh.

Good on you for ridding the yard of Ivy. Too many people use it to try and look sophisticated but in the US it is highly invasive and destructive. Hope u can add in more native plants even if the are cultivars. Have fun on your journey.

I had seen the finished kitchen and it’s beautiful but this is the first time I have seen your basement. You and Tommy did an amazing job on the basement. Is it an inviting space and now it will be fun to go down there to do laundry if laundry can be fun😉. Great job!

I believe you gave that stately Oak what it needed. And I noticed the room off the kitchen area for the first time. Is that room a bedroom or office/den? Hubs & I are your parents' age and have owned/sold several homes. We've had to move (oilfield) too often (which if I could speak to my younger self, I'd say find a way not to do that). We'd go into a place and make it our own and invariably, sell it to somebody, usually younger, who'd make it THEIR own. Y'all have done SO MUCH in such a short time and I absolutely love, admire your style (and how hard y'all work). BEAUTIFUL.
Sidney I really like everything you have done inside and out. My suggestion for the outside where you have the window box is to add a conversation area. The one chair looks lonely and small. You may have plans for that area but cant remember if you have shared. Happy New Year to you and Tommy.

I love all your renovations and decorating videos. You and your husband have poured a lot of money and sweat equity into improving the infrastructure of this beautiful, historic home. FYI, I have black fenestra windows on my 1937 home. Check out changing your silver window screens to black screen mesh. It’s not that expensive. It’s a good solution to making screens match your new paint color which I love. The front of the house looks magnificent now. The architectural details are now visible and not hidden behind too many big shrubs, tree limbs and boxwoods. It must have been so financially hard to replace water lines, sewer lines sprinkler systems and waterproof the basement. Here in Michigan, the cost for that is exorbitant. We had a difficult time finding qualified contractors to repair and replace our water lines and sewer line issues after severe flooding here in 2020. Keep posting ideas. Your style is unique and very inspirational.
