  • How to replace the Ignition Control Module on a 2.3l Ford Ranger or a b2300 Maxda 93, 94, 95,96,97
If you have taken the time to replace the spark plugs, spark plug wires, and the coils. Yet you still have a lack of power and your idle seems a bit off it is most likely the ICM.

The most mileage out of 1 engine for me was the 1983 Nissan SD-25 Diesel, which I pulled out of my late father's truck and overhauled at 609000 miles. Both Motor and transmission were pulled and the truck junked (It had all but rusted out) That diesel and transmission is now residing in a 2002 Extended Cab Ranger XLT 2WD, with 180000 miles put on the motor since installation. Not a lot of power but the mileage (try 41 Local and 54 Hwy) makes up for it. 789000 miles-so far.
I have 2 more Rangers -a 1999 Standard Cab 2.5 and a 2004 4X4 extended Cab with a 3.7 V6 Jeep Liberty engine in it. (Salvaged from the July Eastern Kentucky floods). All 3 Rangers also have a remote oil filter kit that filters the coolant, PCV Oil Catch Can, LED Lights and the 99 has a HHO Gas Generator. All 3 run good. The 99 has 221000 miles on its OEM 2.5 4 banger Motor. i just have to paint the 4X4 when Spring comes - University Of Kentucky Blue.
I am a retired Deputy Sheriff, certified computer Technician and lifelong shade tree mechanic.

Speed has nothing to do with the engine.
What you need to look at is your rear gearing. Depending on what your gearing is, you could go numerically down, and therefore make your top gear taller.
You also could remove the air tube plastic stuff from inside your air intake tube, which might increase your HP a bit.

Back all 4 bolts out slowly and at quarter turn then next bolt .25 turn then next bolt etc then move it out the way. However, it could also be a blown instrument cluster bulb -- which, believe it or not, I've found before. At the same time, if you pull out the cluster to check the bulb, check the circuitry at the wiring connector and make sure that you're getting the proper amount of power, since you don't want to replace the bulb, and then have it blow again.
