Since this was just a game special OVA it was a pretty bare bones and plain story😅so makes sense they could change it into something entirely different
Hiromi Tsuru was the original VA for Bulma from all the way back in the Dragonball days. She passed not long before this came out, thus the dedication to her at the end.
I remember when she passed, i believe it was a little before the Tournament of Power arc began to air, she was great

So the original OVA this is based on, Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans, was released exclusively in Japan for a system called the Playdia during the late 80s/early 90s as a choose your own adventure type thing. You can see a snippet of that footage during Trunks’ comment about the space time continuum. Most of the footage in this is from the remastered version that was a bonus feature in Dragon Ball Raging Blast 2 for the 360/PS3, which was also the first time the special was officially available in the West. The RB2 version was just a straight OVA- no choose your own path stuff.
And funny enought the DBZA version is the only english dub of the OVA too

if i remember correctly dr.Raichi ( i think it's the real name of "Santa", i'm pretty sure it's supposed to be litchi) is a Tsufur, i know his creation's name is Hatchiak ( not sure of the spelling 😅)

The original ova of this was made up of clips from a interactive game. Then was remade into this movie which was a bonus in a dragon ball z game I think it was ragging blast.
Raging Blast 2 yeah. You get Hatchiyak from watching the whole thing..... which I had to watch twice cause the power went out.
It was a shortened remake of "Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans" from the 90s (You can see a glimpse of the ova in Trunks' timeline joke), it was included as part of Raging Blast 2, just like "Episode of Bardock" was packaged with "Dragon Ball Z: Kinect"
I actually didn't know that's where that Bardock special came from, interesting.

This originally was a video game cut scene called "Plan to Eradicate the Sayians". It also originally had different animation, but was redone to look like this. At one point, they actually show a clip of the original animation while Trunks is talking

Christmas theme aside, I love how Frieza goes for Trunks multiple times, as if he didn't kill him the first time and wasn't consistently killing him again and again. I know he was trying to wear him out, but it's hilarious to me that he keeps getting killed by the same guy and refusing to learn.
The movie is Plan to Erradicate the Saiyans. It started as a card battle game on the Famicom (Japanese NES). Then they made an OVA to tell the story of that game. They later remade the OVA for the release of Raging Blast 2 video game in 2010. The 2010 version of the OVA is where they got this footage.
Yeah this was actually originally an OVA called "Plan To Eradicate The Saiyans" and the reason it's so much higher quality is because this a remake made with the PS3 game Dragon Ball Raging Blast 2. You actually literally watch this movie to unlock a character.
This was a remake of an OVA for the game Dragon Ball Z Raging Blast. And the main villain was for that game, I was really young when I played the game so I don't remember much.
The trunks timeline joke is that there are two versions of this "movie" from two seperate video games. One from Dragon Ball Z: Gaiden (1994), and the other from Raging Blast 2 (2010)
The original movie plot was basically the same, but for different reason. Instead of being Santa, its an alien doctor whose race was annihilated by Saiyans and he was the last survivor. And his "power" was basically being dark magician, being able to "copy"/control souls of the dead (hence the villains turning to smoke) and when he "dies", all of the "souls" he controlled combine themselves into him, kinda like a Berserker state.
Gotta love the Weird Al xmas song in the credits, very appropriately, "The Night Santa went Crazy"
This movie is fantastic and the fact that they made it full Christmas themed is perfect

This is actually a remake of an older version of this movie. That scene where the animation changed hen Santa was accusing Trunks of disrupting the timeline, that was a scene from the original movie. The original movie is called The Plan To Eradicate The Saiyan, the remake (this version) is called The Plan To Eradicate Every Super Saiyan. Basically, an old enemy of the saiyans, the Tuffles, created a machine that ran off pure hatred to eliminate all saiyans. "Santa" was the main villain, Dr. Lychee (originally named Dr. Raichi), who used the machine, called Hatchiyack, to create manifestations of those who held grudges against the saiyans (Frieza and the others). After he was defeated, the machine created a body for itself, which was the final villain.

This movie was titled "Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans". And the reason it looks like a video game cutscene compilation is because this movie was not on tv or DVD, but was instead a bonus included on a DBZ video game for the PSP. I forgot the title of the game, but I remember seeing it in a Best Buy once and both sides even had a but of advertising foe said bonus movie on the case.

this movie came with the game called dragon ball z ranging blast 2. it was bouns disk. if you wanna put it in the timeline. this was also during the 9 days before the fight with cell. also the orginal name was dbz side story plan to eradicate the saiyans.

IIRC, this was an OVA tagged on some PS3 era DBZ game, so yeah, it is sort of a game cutscene.
I’m pretty sure Vegeta is the only character to get the f word uncensored at different parts in the series: once during the freeza saga when he realizes the dragon ball is gone, once after he has sex with bulma, and here after yippie-Kay-ye. Almost makes me wish they left it uncensored

So the animation sourced for this "Movie" came from a card battler game for home computers called "The Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans." The original made in 1993 got an updated version hence the distinction in animation style which uses much more in the way of CGI as opposed to traditional animation cells by which the original series was done.
there's actually three versions.
The OG OVA which is based on the NES game (Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans). The Playdia version which uses footage of the OG OVA but also adds a bunch of new scenes due to the interactive nature of the movie (True Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans). And the raging blast 2 special OVA which is loosely based on the original but omits a lot of content, with the updated DBZ-Proto-S era artstyle. (Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans).

Since you guys are on the cusp of being finished with DBZA proper, I’d like to take the opportunity to highly recommend TFS sequel series, HFIL, it plays with a lot of fun character interactions, and gives their interpretations of the Villains more room to grow.
Weirdly enough, the movie was packaged inside a 360 game, raging blast 2. And in the states that was the only way to legally watch it
9:52, what people forget about the Tournament of Power is that had Goku NOT asked the Zeno’s about having it, they was about to Wipe out every universe that had Low mortal levels. Goku gave every universe a fighting chance of survival
Also that Goku merely _reminded_ Zeno about the tournament, it wasn't his idea.
People say it was Goku's idea, but Zeno came up with the idea to have a tournament when watching the one Beerus and Champa threw for themselves. Meaning that if the Tournament _was_ a bad thing, then U7's ever-incompetent God of Destruction would be the one to blame, not Goku.

When I first found out this movie, it came out on Dragon Ball Raging Blast 2 as I played Hatchiyack. The movie is Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans.
Its weird to me how people refer to this look as "cleaned up" when in reality its just digitally drawn. I've personally never been crazy about the glossy look a lot of early digitally drawn anime, and the quality of animation (as in number of unique frames drawn) is not exactly improved by it.
Also, yes. This was made to be paired with the video game Raging Blast 2. Its not a cutscene, rather they just included this whole movie in the Extras.

As a little note to Gohans present...i think the reason hes so happy is French is the original version of Mony Dick? I may be wrong. But if it is, then it has all the original context to the story. Some of which was probally lost in translation to other languages.

Thing is, the Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans isn't a movie, but rather a set of cutscenes from an old Dragon Ball game that was reanimated to be a giant cutscene for another more recent Dragon Ball game. Such a mess.

This isnt the original eradicate all saiyans movie, this is from a game. The original movie was lost I think and there was only a really bad copy on going everywhere on the internet. They used the movie to make a new game with the new character and this movie was an unlockable I think.
