  • In this episode we are putting a pipe down the well to stop any surface cave ins. We're also trying the addition of air to the drill in the hopes of getting the tailings up faster.

Great video, as usual. It is great that you have the confidence to try something and then realize that it won’t work in your situation. I find to many people fail before they even start because they aren’t willing to experiment. Thanks for sharing!

Circulate some bentonite through the well to help stabilize your walls

viscosity of mud determines how the pieces coming out of the well, one of the uses of bentonite the other being wall cake to hold back the loss of water. the air is sent down through another pipe through the center of your drill pipe. this is reverse drilling. air is used to blow off the area of mud above it, creating a pressure differential. mud is sent down the hole around your drill stem and returns through the drill pipe, hence the term reverse drilling. Smallest pipe i have ever seen for reverse drilling is 7" id pipe. your baby rig won't work for reverse. try thickening your mud and remember to circulate the hole for 10 minutes or so to clear cuttings from well before making connections otherwise your cuttings will drop out of suspension when you get deeper and trap your drill string. good luck

You will need the notches to hold the pipe when pulling it from the well

Great video, one quick question, why couldn't you just use some pvc pipe for the casing?

+Tom Garabed Yeah we could, but I was having a hard time finding a pice of pvc that big :/

i appreciate these videos. and your ingenuity. i need to dig a well and what you've done here has informed my process a bit, since there aren't really that many videos on these small rigs.
but i have to say. the in-your-face camera work, is insane -- please stop, it's unwatchable. your face takes up more than half of the frame some times. get a longer selfie stick or a wider angle lens.
