    What is your favourite GPS navigation app? I should also mention that the MemoryMaps Purchases are valid on multiple platforms and devices. "The license is for a single person and can be activated on up to 5 devices (any combination of PC, laptop, phone or tablet). Sharing a license with other people is not permitted."

      Currently we just use a garmin car GPS. We may give this one a try, we were thinking of the Hema unit before I saw this, now we have to decide. But since we own a few apple devices it makes this one a bit more attractive

    Thanks Stefan for a great overview. MM and more recently MMfa have been my go-to for 14 years. The page confiurability also allows you to have map-in-map so you can display both high and low scale maps on the one page. Great for detailed navigation whilst also providing an overview. Also, I've only required tech support once (user error) and they were first class.

    • @AlloffroadAu
      @AlloffroadAu  Před 17 dny

      Yes I agree, I also experimented with the map in M feature but found that too distracting so I usually have high and low scale on different pages

    Thanks again. I've just moved from Memory Maps to Memory-Maps for all. One thing that's missing is the ability to Split Screen with other apps. This is handy for monitoring battery status with Victron.

    • @AlloffroadAu
      @AlloffroadAu  Před 11 dny +1

      didn't notice that as I never use split screen, but I thought that's an OS feature?

      @@AlloffroadAu I ended up getting the answer. Split screen is enabled in Settings > Display Options > turn off Full Screen.
      Works well and saves me having a second device

    As a novice to 4x4 I prefer the Garmin Overlander as more simple to use from a non tech perspective backed up by paper maps!

    I've been running Memory Maps for the past 10 years. It's been bulletproof that entire time. Memory Map for all is great been running it for the past year and it's been brilliant. I run trips monthly for a large NSW 4wd club, and it's always done what it says on the box. Brilliant

    Great video. Traveling at the moment and based on your videos I have an iPad to display MM4A as I travel. It's been very helpful and often is more informative than things like Google Maps. Traveled the Barkly Hwy from Three Ways on the Stuart Hwy today and great to see overall progress. I use your distance circle idea from the last video. Some great tips in this video too, I like the elevation profile based on creating a route, will be using that.

    How many devices can does the purchase cover. Can you download and use on all apple devices under the same person, apple ID ?

    • @AlloffroadAu
      @AlloffroadAu  Před 17 dny +1

      basic functionality is very easy, especially if you use other apps; advanced stuff sometimes needs the manual. "Unless otherwise stated in the product description, all maps are licensed for a Single User, on multiple devices. That means you can install the maps on all your devices, Windows PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android. You can not give a copy to a friend or colleague."

  • @moikehunt8928

    Great video but being new to these advanced map apps 80% of your content was over my head. I just downloaded MMFA for a look see and was immediately stumped with zooming into my particular places of interest. I could only zoom down to about 2Klm but as soon as I lifted my fingers it would spring back to maybe 5Klms. I would like to get in even closer than 1 or 2 klms, am I doing something wrong or is that a limitation of the maps? For instance, on Google maps I can zoom right down to 10 Mtrs without issue albeit with less content/detail than MMFA.

    • @AlloffroadAu
      @AlloffroadAu  Před 15 dny

      yep, raster maps, unlike vector maps, can't change scale, so you would need to choose, for instance, a 25k topo map if you want to zoom in closer. Both have pros and cons vector maps are better if you zoom in but bad for overview as they loose most detail raster maps you have different scales and the content which is displayed on the map wont change

    • @AlloffroadAu
      @AlloffroadAu  Před 17 dny +1

    memory maps stopped offering 25k maps for Tasmania a while back, which is probably a good thing because the maps they were offering must be nearly 40 years old and I find in most areas the tracks shown no longer exist and that there's logging superhighways all the areas that show no tracks. I wish they'd figure out a new 25k map cos I'd like to keep using memory maps but I'm getting sick of persevering with the old ones

    • @AlloffroadAu
      @AlloffroadAu  Před 15 dny

      yea, MemoryMaps don't have their own maps. It would be smart to have an open street map base version.
