I watch your videos all the time, i'm a junior/ senior, and i will be taking my regents next week, and all your videos are helping me for my u.s history regents! thank you soo much. keep teaching!
Also, from what I learned it was this concept that the ultimate goal was to have a country bounded by two oceans. Further, it was the justification of the atrocities in the expansion westward as in ".....the ends justify the means". Because it was believed that it was a god given right therefore spilling a little blood was to be expected and forgiven by god.
God*
@@sentryogmixmaster The Lord, Jesus, The Christ to be most exact.......
To be fair, the Native Americans at the time saw no problem with using violence, war, and conquest to settle the issue of who controlled the land. At least, they had no issue with the idea until _after_ they'd all lost.
@@Thoralmir Interesting... so does that give us a pass for what we did?
Thou shalt not kill, unless it's to expand your country from ocean to ocean
thank you for publishing this and putting it together in such a simple way.. bravo keep up the work, very appreciated
+Divine Tribe and thank you for taking the time to post your comment. I hope you have a chance to subscribe to the channel, we have over 400 videos!

I just started writing a lesson on this topic. Great timing.
Effing loved this video. Kudos on the funny, candid explanation. Also, you look (and kind of sound like) Patton Oswalt! Lol.
Cheers from Canada!

Great, greattttt explanation. I love your videos. Thank you
I want to say thank you. Next week I have to do a presentation (in Spanish😁) about manifest destiny, and this video provided a good overview, and also brought up ideas for further exploration on the topic.
Well done. Gives alot to dig deeper.
Not only learning about manifest destiny but also new terms for my exam! Thank you sm
Keep it up! Knowledge is what we need.
"For myself," [Ulysses] Grant wrote later about the United States war against Mexico, "I was bitterly opposed to the measure, and to this day regard the war, which resulted, as one of the most unjust ever waged by a stronger against a weaker nation."
The political, cultural and social era of the 1830s birthed a mission transcribed as Manifest Destiny, America's expansion westward into the lands occupied by native tribes and the Republic of Mexico. This national attitude was a major cause of the war with Mexico and had tragic results for many. Grant, though against the war personally, served to the best of his ability as a matter of duty.
It was America's sanctimonious term for Imperialism.
+Edward Mccants What does that video have to do with anything?
Mike Calvin You still failed your “Manifest Destiny“ lmao
@@s.a.8548 Well now we are the most powerful nation in the world, and basically have North America under our control. So did we really fail
Basically
"Imperialism", that bad word thrown at the Western powers that virtually wiped out the world's slave trades.
Drinking game: every time he says “Kind of” take a shot of whisky 🥃
What's the 3 parts I only got 2
five interesting facts and a whole lotta vocab words for a quarantine assignment. Gotta love busy work
Do you do science also, or just U.S history?
Now doing this in history class, for BTMS
My history teacher had us watch this vid for an assignment. Pretty good, don't see why some people are commenting on things other than the topic presented in the video... Good video!
+Sydney Reyes because it's the internets.
1:48 ......theirs no stoppin us now .....we on the move
I came here voluntarily i can use the extra help Thanks!!
0.75x speed, Thank me later (You will actually understand if you use that speed lol).
If you cant understand what he is saying bc hes talking too fast, youre slow.
@@mlc9928 honestly though, the quicker people speak the less time you waste. I wish more people got the information out of their mouths faster.
I'm a couple of hours away from an exam, so I saw this vid and decided to watch it 2x speed since I don't have much time. Big mistake.
didnt pay attention during this whole lesson now paying the price :(
awesome video helped with my assignment
Thank you.
You remind me of Tom Arnold.
Thanks sooooo much
Sadly and truly the most informative channel on CZcams. I sat sad because he’s clearly not even trying still doing better than 100 percent of youtube
What? There are literal 100s of Channels like his .’some for adults - some for kids - some for entertainment/cartoons
Good vid 👏🏼
I manifested my destiny and it quantum leaped my arse to this video.
Am I the only one who watched this because they weren't asked by their teacher and just loves learning history? And yes I'm a weeb and plus I'm not even American I'm a Filipino
You're awesomeee!!
Another homerun, Keith. Entertaining and enlightening, as usual.
Better than a 20 minute history channel documentary.
What do you guys think, does the War on Terrorism during the 2000s is can be considered as a consequence of the Manifest Destiny?
Forced to watch this in quarintine
i have a ten minute speech that has to include this thats due in less than 12 hours, i just started it, and i dont understand any of this lmaooo wish me luck
Thx
So it is Collective Narcissism? ❤️❤️
im watching this to add it to my slideshow
Your awesome dude
You skipped over the second part. 1) An act of god pushed us to pursue risky and dangerous situations and 3) Destiny, can't stop it. Would 2 be fulfilling a higher purpose? Seems very close to one.
The speaker needs to slow his patter down so that one can absorb one fact before he jumps into another, and another, and another. He has some good points, but he puts them out so rapid-fire that they are hard to absorb.
I asked my history teacher if she increased the playback speed on this video. I was mindblown when she said no.
Bruhhhhhhhh I have to watch this for class
2:10
new game: take a sip o water everytime he says "kind of" or "kinda"
What about Manifest Destiny today?
I tell my 7th graders to remember it this way: "Manifest Dest...Move out West...and Pass the TEST!!"
Also, Whigs and Northerners were opposed to Manifest Destiny, Texas Annexation, Mexican-American War, etc. because of concerns over the expansion of slavery. Hence, the Wilmot Proviso, Compromise of 1850, Kansas-Nebraska Act, etc. etc.
Great video, Keith!
Konkey Dog Doggy Style Not really. Most Northern states banned slavery by the time the 19th Century started.
Patrick Henagan not true. The North had plans for annexing Canada and taking out the Native Americans in the West. No wonder they wouldn't let the South secede....their plan was to control all of North America.
Here’s a hack:
Put the speed to 0.75x
And put the captions on. (Your welcome )
Heath Ledger's Joker at 2:10..
hello to anyone from my school who is here against their will lmao
I’m not here cuz my teacher was like frick u. I was watching bill wurtz and Kaliningrad General
Man finals got me searching this shit!
+Snuffy Welcome to the internets.
Who's here cuz there teacher is making them watch this cuz corona who's actually gonna pay attention Is a better question
It WAS a democratic idea. Now it's a profoundly religious one that many underestimate. Manifest destiny coupled with supremacy has been around us since the beginning of civilization. Religion-based Manifest Destiny and Supremacy are the MAIN reason for hate crimes.
BTW: I'm here because I like knowing things.
Me to
Mkay
Some Americans though this concept applied to the North and south as well. They had an amendment in their constitution to allow Canada to join them (they just assumed we would want that) and they were insulted when we said no and they attacked us soon after. I dread the day when America looks North again for their next expansion. I'd like to see you do a video on Canada/America relations over history as well.
what if he lived in the cartoon apartment
Am I the only one that my teacher wants us to write a paragraph about
Manifest Destiny?
no andre.
Don't forget War of 1812, an unsuccessful attempt to sucker-punch Great Britain while she was fighting Napolean and grab Canada.
Everytime i see or hear the term Manifest Destiny i think of that slogan "Make America Great Again"
Maga 2020
In short we can say that manifest destiny means, " exploitation and killing of natives"

I’m here because I have to make a political cartoon on manifest destiny and I have no clue what it is
That was awesome. Thank you!
explanation is good, but please speak a bit slower, for students in other places
my teacher wants me to get 5 facts from this video when all i learned was that a man on youtube talks fast while trying to teach
I would recommend playing the video at 50% speed. I might sound like I'm an alien but i've been working on slowing things down over the years. And I do appreciate the constructive criticism, we can all do better

But some times I wish I never was born at allllll!!!
I came here for the meme
quite the spin on history
don't even know what to study i'm all over the place... im gonna fail
I like your video.
There's something that came to my mind with all this.
When my 63 year old sweet Mexican mother was studying the Naturalization American book to become a U.S citizen I was helping her study, she needed to study 100 question with U.S. Basic history. When you do the test, they only ask you at most 6 out of the 100, of course, you don't know which ones...well
One of those questions was something like "What is one of the requirements to become a U.S citizen?" One of the requirements was....Give up your loyalty to any other country and be loyal only to the United States.
It was hard for me to believe was I was reading because, how can one stop being loyal to your country of origin to give your solemn loyalty to a new country?
To me loyalty is accompanied by respect. As a child I was thought to respect others as I respect my self, there fore, be loyal to a country that is welcoming you as you are loyal to the land that witnessed your birth, your homeland.
I really hope she failed the test, she probably doesn't even speak a lick of English
EpicWafflez515 i really hope your soul may find peace.. you evil man.
Anyone in need of an analysis of the "Great Nation of Futurity (1893)"? comment down below 👇🏻
Yes point at the dislike button nice
ryan?
Manifest Destiny is back babeeeeee!
Was the Civil War caused by the ideals of manifest destiny in the positive sense?
Whitefang8128 I guess that would depend who you were asking.... lol
Sure.
I would argue that modern day American jingoism is Manifest Destiny's child.
Hiway I would rather be jingoistic rather than be a liberal who doesn't have much pride in my country.
I have been held against my will to watch this. help.
Why did he say Mexcian Secession? Doesn't he mean Cession?
no. he didnt
Im here cuz i have to write a essay and i wasnt listening
When the video starts don't say hey guys its me tell us about it right away
your mind is the fastest and most advanced mind on the planet. Is this coffee induced? You are a genius dude
I am not a genius, I just play one on CZcams. I actually work at the donut store and spend most of my time wandering Walmart looking for trashy novels and tube top socks.
i can read an 800 page book in a day
Here as an Englishman.

Poor Native Americans..
+Bruce G and Mexicans, we got fucked also half our land
Autismo I’m a Mexican American from Texas and even I think Mexico is dumb as hell for that.
Should’ve taken land all the way to Patagonia
I am here because I got high and wanted to learn what manifest destiny means
