- Too little time is taken to appreciate all the parts of the environment surrounding our favorite fishing holes. Here in the tropics, mangrove trees dominate the saltwater landscape. They are incredibly hardy despite the harsh conditions and as a result, they've claimed the water's edge almost exclusively. Still, very few people know even the basics about these natural wonders. This video should help shine a little light on those new to the salt life and perhaps even to those people that just never took the time to find out more about these amazing trees.
If you'd like to read more about the subject, the following is a great place to start...

Marty, you are truly a multi-dimensional man. Artist, craftsman, angler, videographer, business man, and now naturalist. Serious kudos.
I rescued a mangrove pod with some roots sprouting, from the beach and planted it in a pot at my house. They are very hardy plants. Thanks for the video Marty.
Marty, there are not enough words of praise in the English language to bestow upon you. The enlightenment we receive thru your videos is so much more than simple (how to) information. You capture our minds and every so often you capture our souls by showing us the beauty that is all around us if we would just take the time to look. Thank you and God Bless my friend.
I always learn something new from you, from today every time I go in my kayak I will save all the mangrove trees that I see in Aripeka, Florida! Thanks, now I have a new challenge to fulfill!
Marty you’re the frickin coolest. I love that you did this video! I’m a Florida native and I learned a couple things about mangroves 😀
I’ve lived in NY for the past 25 years, but will be in FL next month. I’ve actually set aside a day to drive over from Jacksonville to visit you and rent a kayak!
Another terrific video, Marty. Informative and interesting. Very reminiscent vibes to some of your older videos, the music and storytelling...almost gives me an ataraxic feeling when I watch it. 😌
It's amazing how some people just write all this off as a gross swamp when really there is so much beauty and life in and around the Florida waterways. Coming from a plant nerd myself, thanks for sharing about these great plants Marty!
Looks great Marty,
Nice to see your dream come alive better and better every day 🙌🏻
As a Horticulture teacher, I say , fantastic video. I loved it.
Saw those mangroves up close and personal last weekend. Thanks for putting all of us on the water! We had a great time and it was nice to meet you and see everything in person.
Very cool environment , Being in tune with the landscape and wildlife around us is an essential part of our own life journey. Thanks for taking the time to share.
Great stuff Marty, the mangroves truly are the nursery for the fish we love to catch and eat
Some of your videos are so unexpectedly wholesome and internally fulfilling. It's one of the main reasons I keep coming back to the channel.
As a mountain biker and wildlife lover, conservation is a massive focus for me.
I can't wait to get a kayak and get out on the water.
Someday, man, I want to buy a yak. And I want to buy it from you. Support local!
This is great info my friend! I am an arborist so I very much appreciate trees as I do your video. Very relaxing.
A true naturalist.looking out for your environment is important
You are truly blessed Marty, thank you for all your awsome videos . Its been so awsome to see you come so far in your dream . Its so easy to get cought up in a life and to forget about what keeps us grounded .
Mangrove forests move carbon dioxide "from the atmosphere into long-term storage" in greater quantities than other forests, making them "among the planet's best carbon scrubbers" according to a NASA-led study based on satellite data.
I remember your garden from my visit.. nice to see your long range video planning come to fruition...nice job Marty.
Awesome video Marty, thanks for planting the groves and the info, I didn’t know the differences.
I love mangroves. They're so beautiful.
Great information. We need to stop the urban crawl and protect the mangroves. The entire ecosystem depends on them. Thank you for sharing.
Stopping urban sprawl would be a dream come true. Mangrove forests are being cleared at a rate here in the Americas faster than the tropical rainforests (source WWF). Unfortunately the "ruling class" (politicians and big dollar business) only care about booming population growth and new development.
@@cup_and_cone water front property goes for a pretty penny, which drives the destruction of the places.
This was really great of you Marty! Highly enjoyed it!!!!
Thanks for the mangrove info. When I was at your place this last February I rented one of your kayaks and took it thru that tunnel you showed. The tide was a little lower but I did manage to get back to the mud hole. Do you remember how messy the kayak was when I brought it back, bunch of small branches and leaves and mud and dirt? Great experience. Will be back again to rent this next year.
YEAH, NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!!!! Thanks for the good old Zoffinger vid. Loved it.
Hi Marty, many years ago I commented on your channel that "one" of the reasons I was attracted to your videos was because as an Environmental Engineer I appreciated the fact that you picked-up garbage on your kayak outings. Now this wonderful awesome video on mangroves! Nice Job. My favorite plant in the world. I once told my wife that after we retire we could not leave Florida because I need to be close to mangroves. My Department has a mangrove replenishment program that has been very successful. They also do coral reef restoration. Hope to meet you one day and talk environmental shit! Love what you're doing. Can you do a video where you fish off of the old red kayak, PLEASE!
Thank you, you are truly a unique person with skill and knowledge that hopefully people will learn from. Your a rare breed. Great videos, great skill in craftsmanship, great environmentalist.
As soon as you pulled out that baby mangrove, for some reason I heard a voice say " I'm Groot!" 😆😝😋 great video, it made me feel relaxed.
Great video, one of the most underrated you tubers out there keep it up
Thanks for a good nature course. More would be welcome. I hope to have the time to get back down to Florida and enjoy that nature many more times
Born in Miami, but still learned a bit about the different kinds of mangroves. Thanks. But ALSO learned that you are 1.4 miles away. Have learned a kayak load about kayaks and fishing from you. Hope to meet ya soon and try the kayak thing.
Very informative Marty, nice work!
Very informative about the mangroves. I've lived in Florida all my life and didn't know this about mangroves. Thank you Marty for the new knowledge.
This was fascinating. Thanks for showing all this to us, and explaining it! What beautiful places those tunnels are!
Great Video Marty.. Always great to stop every once in awhile and see what is right in front of your eyes.
This is a really good video Marty, as a marine science major I found this fascinating and an awesome tidbit of info to add to my knowledge. Please give us more of these informative videos of flora and fauna of the area. Thanks for such a great video
Great video Marty! I really liked this one as much as the fishing and build videos.
Awesome video! I love exploring the environment around me. It is fun to learn what grows and why. Thanks for the information!

Marty, thanks for taking us on the trip and the great information. I admire your conservation mindset.

Awesome video for my class! I agree with kayak Chris, I loved it.
Love to learn in a myriad of subjects. This is no exception. Watching this made me miss South Florida and the Keys. My favorite place I've ever lived. However, in all the years I lived down there, I never learned the differences in Mangrove trees. Can't imagine why, but better late than never. Subscribing.
Great video. You made my day! Heartfelt thanks.
I have used the mangrove seed pods in the sump of my saltwater aquarium in order to help keep the water clean, acts as a natural filter, and also helps to maintain the water within its proper PH...It is amazing how quickly they grow before you have to start trimming them back..great video Marty.
I grew up in S. FL and as kids, we would play in the mangroves, fish, hunt for critters. I never realized the different species. Thanks Marty.
Been through those tunnels a few times when we go to Zoffingers! Very fun! We will be back in a couple weeks! As you may have noticed, breaking the paddle into 2 parts makes it much easier to navigate through the tunnels
I remember years ago when a homeowner by the bayside bridge cut the mangroves behind his house. Man did he get a healthy fine.
one of these days I'd love to take the long drive down from NY with my kayak and fishing gear and spend some time at your new place and fish..
Fantastic my man!!! You do such a great job. I'm so glad I came across your channel. Just great quality. Keep up the good work sir!!

Nice video. Very informative. Miss Florida. Going camping this weekend with my son on a 3 day fishing trip.
Stellar video. Keep up the good fight
This was a really cool and informative video thank you Marty👌
Damn Marty! That was a very cool vid. While growing up in the Keys I spent a lot of time fishing and making forts and docks on mangrove islands so we quickly learned about black versus red because black mangroves made for the best structure to attach to.
