Wish cops really were that helpful. My ex stole a bunch of stuff from me. He never lived with me but when I tried filing a police report I was told it was a civil matter since we’d dated.

Because it’s based on the first episode and what I title it then. Since they weren’t yet engaged in the first episode it was boyfriend’s mother. Also at that point I had no idea it would be the series it is today and didn’t know where it would end up.

It might be a civil matter, not doubting that. But because it's thousands of dollars, that also makes it Grand Theft Larceny. Depending on how small the town/how involved the police in the area, and considering the recorded confession, they may choose to escalate the matter. (I do not know any of this for sure, just making an educated guess with the other information provided in the skit.)
