Not a professional interior designer or anything lol, but regarding the couch situation I think its dependent on whether or not you plan to have side tables or a coffee table. Without the arms to the couch, it makes it seem a little empty or too spacious but if you plan on having tables it should balance out. Hope that makes sense and helps you make a decision.
