The power of language is a wonderful thing... I work in a shopping mall, not far from the local college with a significant population of Indian international students. One of the security guards, an Indian woman, bought some earrings and I took a chance with one phrase: "aapka naam kya hai" (what's your name?). It's like a switch flipped on - surprise, shock and then happiness that someone is making the effort to speak with them in their native tongue. Made a friend and get some Indian baked goodies now and then :)

I'd really love to live in the US for a little bit, not a big city like NY but something a little smaller. I'm from South Africa, so I can't handle big cities.
