  • For all of you who like to work on your own vehicles, the serpentine belt is a common replacement for good maintenance or just peace of mind. It needs to be changed at regular intervals throughout your vehicle's life. I like to include the idler pulley and belt tensioner at the same time due to the cost-effectiveness of getting it done while changing the serpentine belt. My video can guide you to do it yourself. This DIY was performed on a 2009 Hummer H3T Truck with a 3.7-liter engine, I5.
I would rate the difficulty as a 1.5 out of 5 🔧. Fairly easy with the correct tools. The serpentine belt installation is the hardest part.

hi bro did you use special tool to release the tensioner? or anything that fit in the hole?

I think it's one of two things. A 3/8" ratchet or breakover bar that fits into a slot or I added a socket on the factory nub of the belt tensioner itself.

I noticed that my Hummer makes an ugly noise when I press on the accelerator, will replacing the belt and tensioners resolve that problem?

That's hard to say without hearing where the noise is coming from.
