It's 6:40pm on a Tuesday and I spent the last forty minutes trying to talk myself out of bed and a crushing depression. This song just happened to be on some playlist youtube created and "thought" I might like. I am a big Cash fan but I never heard this song before. But it captures and encapsulates my mood and frame of mind precisely. Johnny Cash suffered from depression and addiction just as I do and this song really expresses exactly the way I feel right now. Even in the depths of psychological angst it is nice to know someone else knows how you feel.

it is a very mysterious condition to be honest. it runs in my family, but im the only one that got it, and im the only musical one. that wasn't going the 'get a union job and get on with it'. If your creative and no one nurtures that i think your whole psyche goes into rebellion. i take pretty mild medication. (they tried this zombie you out sh(T but i said No Way,,, so they were forced to put me on milder things> But i have to take it Every day EVERY morning. It can take hours for me to feel awake though, no way can i miss it. alot of accomplished people have depression, esp writers who drink, (Bad idea),, very bad... they say musicians are into drugs,,, writers are drinkers,,, and one other (cant remember it),,,, i stoped drinking because iw as so POOR i couldnt afford it..... One thing though is it DOES get better as you get older 60's. the prep work is like 30 or 40 to 60,,, to accept yourself,,, like yourself and find a way to live where you have safe space/ im kind of a hermit ( have kids but they're grown),,, I stay home,,,, my town is safe but boring,, the world is a disturbance. noise and other things trigger the depression/ptds thingies... i don't live near people, i can see houses out the window but there is alot of space,, (kind of a hicky town, i just feel safer and im 63 so i dont need or want to deal all these tourists. boring place,, tourists invadeit except the weather Bashin them,,

This version has a rawness that hits different. Love the piano - not in the original - with its sharp, distinct notes. Johnny Cash's subtle change to a few lyrics breathes new life into a song I know by heart. And also, the sound quality and other performers alongside Johnny Cash are amazing as well. Every instrument is perfectly balanced, crisp and detailed. Oh and, speaking a few words at the start and end is also kind a nice touch.

I remember hanging out with my step father’s parents who were big drinkers but only from Friday night after work until late Sunday afternoon. I got a kick out of watching my step grandfather big Merle Willette of northern Maine babbling on while watching Jimmy Swaggart mass on tv as he laughed and joked occasionally holding up his bottle of beer as he looked straight at the set saying hey Jimmy would you like a hey Budweiser pounder to ease your nerves lol, happy friendly weekend drunks that couple were. Just sitting back watching the both of them husband and wife argue over who’s going go get the next case of beer was hilarious. You never knew that the wife was going to do next a couple times she lit the kitchen on fire because she was mad nobody would give her $.38 cents to buy herself another Black Label or Narragansett beer. Oh so funny yet comical entertainment never getting to far out of hand just little squabbles watching objects flying through the air coming close to the intended target ( Merle ) lol. It would never fail come Monday morning Big Merle would drive out of the dooryard as he headed to work. R. I. P. Merle in Geneva Willette

It's a country song with a harmonious feel. We've lost that kind of sense, at peace with the good, at peace with the bad. Everybody's got to win. We've lost track of community and society. People are mad there's other people around them and they have to compromise. We need to welcome the ruin of our inner self to be among it all.

Well I woke up Sunday morning
With no way I hold my head, that didn't hurt
    ...
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad,
So I had one more for dessert.
    ...
Then I fumbled in my closet
through my clothes And found my cleanest dirty shirt.
    ...
Then I washed my face and combed my hair
    And stumbled down the stairs
    to meet the day.
I'd smoked my mind the night before
With cigarettes and the songs that I'd been pickin'
    ...
But I lit my first and watched a small boy
Cos' ain't a can that he even kicking
I across the and to street
Caught the Sunday smell of someone's fryin' chicken
    ...
And it took me back to somethin'
That I'd lost somewhere, somehow along the way.
    On a Sunday morning sidewalk
    Oh ... I'm wishing Lord
    that I was stoned
'Cause there's something in a Sunday
That makes a body feel alone.
    Ohh...
And there's nothin' short of dyin'
That's half as lonesome as the sound
    ...
    Of a sleepin' city sidewalk
    ...Sunday mornin' comin' down.
In the park I saw a daddy
With a laughin' little girl who he was swingin'
    ...
And I stopped beside a Sunday school
And listened to the songs they were singin'
    ...
    I headed down the street
Somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin'
    ...
And it echoed thru the canyons
Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday.
    ...
    On a Sunday morning sidewalk
I'm wishing Lord that I was stoned
'Cause there's something about a Sunday
That makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothin' short of dyin'
