- Experience the excitement and historic moments from the 1998 ICC Knock-Out Trophy, officially known as the Wills International Cup. Held in Bangladesh, this One Day International (ODI) cricket tournament was the first to involve all Test-playing nations outside of the World Cup, setting the stage for what is now known as the ICC Champions Trophy.
The tournament featured thrilling matches, including New Zealand's victory over Zimbabwe in the pre-quarter-final to qualify for the main knockout stage. The competition culminated in a memorable final where South Africa defeated the West Indies to claim their first major tournament title.
Tournament Overview:
Format: The tournament was held in a direct knock-out format involving all Test-playing countries at the time. Due to nine eligible teams, New Zealand and Zimbabwe played a qualifier to determine the final eight teams.
Objective: Conceived by the ICC to raise funds for developing cricket in non-Test playing countries, the tournament was also aimed at promoting the game in Bangladesh.
Key Matches:
Semi-Finals:
South Africa vs. Sri Lanka: Jacques Kallis led South Africa to victory with an unbeaten 113 runs and 5 wickets, earning him the Man of the Match award.
West Indies vs. India: A strong performance by Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Dillon's 3-wicket haul guided the West Indies to a win, with Dillon being named Man of the Match.
Final:
South Africa vs. West Indies: Kallis's all-round performance (37 runs and 5 wickets for 30 runs) and key contributions from Hansie Cronje and Mike Rindel secured South Africa's win. Kallis was named Man of the Match and Man of the Tournament for his stellar performances throughout the event.
Highlights:
Jacques Kallis's Dominance: Watch Kallis's incredible all-round display that earned him both Man of the Match in the final and Man of the Tournament.
Historic Moments: Relive the key matches, including South Africa's semi-final win over Sri Lanka and the nail-biting final against the West Indies.
Tournament Legacy: Understand the significance of the inaugural ICC KnockOut Trophy in paving the way for future ICC Champions Trophy editions.
Join us in celebrating South Africa's historic win and the memorable moments of the 1998 ICC Knock-Out Trophy, a tournament that left a lasting legacy in the world of cricket.

Brother thanks for your positive feedback
Zimbabwe and south africa were powerful team around 90s to 2000 and south africa was favourite to win 99 wc but Donald spoilt the semifinal with confused run out
Great work bro... U brought back the memories of October 1998...thanks....
Uff
Hansie cronje greatest captain ever in cricket
SA was known as the uncrowned world champs in 90s and 2000s
Chokers you mean
The worst choke in T20 finals really they can never overcome this
@@rrao7963 they can only after winning one. Good thing is that T20 World Cup happens in every 2nd year so many chances for them.
No they were not
Then India are the uncrowned ODI world champions. They were the best team in the tournament until the final.
Nope. You can't be champions unless you win the title.
One Day Cricket at its best. Even totals above 240 were challenging to chase unlike today where even 350 is not enough. Spinners had the skill of getting batsmen commit to the wrong shot. 25:06 is a fine example of such skills
Golden days of cricket 🏏
We miss those days 😢
90s golden era of cricket... atmosphere of the crowd given me goosebumps...I witnessed all matches... without Donald, Pollock, Kristen, klusner,SA lift the trophy...
Cronje and Rhodes were the backbone back then. SA had the best fielding in the World back then.
In 90s whether south africa played well or average the end news always used to be south africa won...i was sick listening to this on dd news...beating south africa was a rare occurrence those days...love that team...
That was called mini worldcup
Entire Cricket fraternity miss u Hansie....

Hensie was a Gem. He was 100 times better captain than Steve wuagh. That was the time when south Africa was the toughest side.
yes, only fixing ruined this person else who knows he may have ended being the most successful Captain in white ball cricket.
Could you imagine even after fixing some matches his stats are unbelievable in the toughest era of cricket...i wonder how his figure would have been without fixing any games...by far the best captain...
many thanks for the upload.1998-99 season was an unprecedented one for India. After loosing captaincy Sachin was free of pressure and he cut loose. India won many tournaments that year and this loss to West Indies was unexpected. Had the similar feeling when we lost to them in 2016 T20 world cup.
One of the most colorful cricket event I ever seen.....simply amazing
Good old memories
Thanks for uploading this video
In 90s-2000s Zimbabwe was a tough competitor for other teams 😮
So the Captaincy make difference. Hansie Cronje had a bad reputation in cricket. BUT HIS CAPTAINCY IS THE REASON SA WON THAT TOURNAMENT. NOW SA HAVE A GOOD CAPTAIN IN AIDEN MARKRAM HOPE THEY WIN SOMETHING IN NEAR BY FUTURE.

That was a classic between NZ and Zimbabwe. NZ winning off the final ball. People may say it was an lopsided affair because Kiwis won by five wickets but actually it wasn't.
What a sight, Akram and Azhar sharing a dressing room and having a cup of tea ?
That was real cricket era
Robin Singh at tht point of time was the mad max of cricket world, such a ferocious n fearless man like jaguar or tiger

Kronje was a great great strategist. I wanted to learn how to fix a match from him 😢. Even Azhar and Jadeja 😢😢
😮😮😮😮

This tournament was broadcast by doordharsan that's why even good clarity highlights not available am I right
Not exactly. It was broadcasted in ESPN
@@menon_ji4984doordarshan also
DD use to telecast in India every big tournament till 2003 0r 2006
Every team was good... Even Kenya was not so bad...even contest between bat and ball... No boring cricket like today were batsman is making merry... Kohli is hitting century if not getting out by 20s or 30s.. So easy for batsman to score centuries and getting 350+...till 2011 Cricket was competitive but still loosing teams from cricket like Zimbabwe and Kenya
Chokers 😮
14:21 Mitchel Starc inspired from here😂😂
14:35 what's going on there, two fixers together
Azhar was a pure match fixer
