  • This is 5 minute drum chronology of Arctic Monkeys and is the copyrighted property of its owner(s).
Here I play sections of Matt Helders' drum parts to Arctic Monkeys albums up to "AM", in year released and track list order.
Please note that this video is filmed and recorded all in one take!
To anyone concerned - Yes, Kye Smith absolutely was an inspiration to make this video. I was not the person with the original idea to do a 5 minute drum chronology, so credit is due to Kye.
This took a long time to put together so I would appreciate any comments, likes and shares!
    Enjoy!
Thank you Matt Helders for watching!!

It's very different but its the obvious culmination of years of Alex growing as a songwriter. What people don't seem to understand is that complicated doesn't mean better. If a band doesn't evolve then they'll just fade away into obscurity. Thats the beauty of Arctic Monkeys is each album is so unique that you can choose one based on what mood you're in.

the evolution of this band, even when focusing just on their drum chronology, is utterly fascinating. they're undeniably an incredibly creative band, and, despite their latest album arguably being their worst it's still very good. saying it's their worst is not saying it's a bad album, comparing AM to their other albums is like comparing airplanes to each other - yes it may be the slowest out of the lot, but it still flies high above the clouds alongside their other albums.
i can't even begin to imagine what they have in store for us later this year. each album is vastly different to the last. tbh i do hope it'll be better than AM though lmaoo

      Matt disagree:
'How do you think your drumming has evolved since Humbug?
“On that record I think I’d encourage myself to come up with a drum pattern I’d not heard on another song, I’d think it was weird just to play just a straight beat all the way through, and that’s gradually gone away a little bit because I’ve started thinking about how important it is to play for the song.
“I’ve managed to balance that so far, like do a mad drum beat but it still works for the song. On Suck It And See there’s still ‘Library Pictures’, that song was kind of a bit mad, but it was more like ‘song-y’ in a way, and that’s because of the way that was written. It was Alex on an acoustic then we applied all our parts. So the style that I played was, to the naked eye, simplified.”'
