Wow, imagine knowing musical terms and not just spending hours playing things by ear until you figure it out.
its easier to learn them than just going by ear, trust me :)

See ur point, but really u don't have to know what e.g. "triplet" is called to get what "triplet" as a concept is and be able to constantly do it. Of course getting the terms right as well will help you to communicate but it's really not essential as long as u get it. Depends also with who or what sort of music you're playing.
