Yes, for most brothers if you train for a year consistently you will be able to fight better than 90% of men on the street (of course taking into account weight and height). But yes, I reccomend training a striking martial arts as well as a grappling one or wrestling too.
Explain as well gabreille that you're hiting the bag as its falling to you to build your power and maybe explain some things about your footwork because I think beginners could miss the little things and not see the things you're doing that make it more effective. Hitting the face is an issue in islam . He's teaching it if it were to happen and your in the spot against others and your in danger. But you can learn the moves and apply then in shadow boxing and on bags .
