Your dedication and thorough workmanship is extremely impressive. All these preventative measures will save $$$ in the long run!
Another excellent video. Merry Christmas when it comes. 🇺🇦👍🇺🇦👍🏴
that wear on that pully was something else. you made the right call on just getting it torn down.
You are good people to look after this friend like you have, he must be a good dude as well for you to trust to pay you back.
Mr J C The customer is lucky to have someone like you working on their and fixing it under the circumstances. Thanks for sharing and stay safe
Great video J.C.Smith really enjoy watching you work on this truck. It never hurts once your that far apart to go that extra mile to fix it an prepare it for the future longevity of that engine. Thanks for sharing stay safe Mr & Mrs J.C.Smith.
Another nice, thorough video
Nice video and great work. Even if you have to inframe the motor down the road you know that the accessory drive is good and doesn’t need to be taken apart and tested.
It might be more money than your friend wants to spend right now, but doing preventive maintenance in the off season beats a break down when work is hopping.
I totally agree, better to spend a little now an save a lot down the road! Not just money it cost you in the future as it will always breakdown at the worst possible time and cause the most hassle and stress. 🇺🇦👍🇺🇦👍🏴
yes. it was a fresh build on a truck that had been laying around and off the road for years. we were able to not only change its length and abilities but run all season virtually trouble free. that was a win in my book.
not to mention a tow bill will usually always be far more expensive than the repair itself on this truck.
@@j.c.smithprojects
But not if you tow it! 😁 ;-)
i have several of these motors in trucks and have fixed many never had a rocker box off so very usefull video for me Thank You 400BC4 13 ddo eatons 3.70 11/245 t600 on 8bag air 60in sleeper 88kw last year before the pc crap OOP speck
Cleaning up the shop sounds like it would be a great video
The big thing is you know who will be working on this truck in the future. You might as well make it right, right now. This guy has no idea how lucky he is to have someone like you to take care of his stuff. Like a famous guy says on TV, do it right the first time!
Cheers
Terry
if you cant afford to do it right, you certainly cant afford to do it twice!
Thanks for the video J.C.
"On this week's instalment of the antiques roadshow..." you made me shoot coffee out my nose, well played, sir lol
He is lucky to have you as a friend.
That accessory drive could have been big trouble if it had been allowed to keep spinning until it grenaded. Good call on the rebuild.
You’re a good man JC doing it right the first time and preventing major issues down the road from happening. Looking forward to seeing the next video.
another great video thanks for sharing
Looks good slowly, but surely, have a great evening JC and Mrs Smith.
Really enjoyed this. Gave me good pointers for my old forklift when I get time. She is as dirty.
People may think she’d untidy but you can use it and you know where your tools are. Cheers
Good video. That is the neatest starter wrench I've ever seen.
Your logic is foolproof! It absolutely makes sense to fix everything when you are in that deep. Glad your friend listened to sage advise! Your progress is making great strides for reliable functionality. Merry Christmas to you and the Misses!
A neat and tidy shop is the best to the eye but to change a working shop to get there is usually counter-productive because a lot of muscle memory is taken away.
So dang true that the shop gets cleaned when iy does not scheduled time.
Loved the intro lol 😂
I can imagine how frustrating it is as the owner to have spent thousands of dollars only to find out you need thousands of dollars more that you don’t have AND the truck is all apart.
The best part is he’s a man of his word.
You got people with the money to pay you but not the character to pay you.
Thank you
Your really hitting these videos for me jc, I put my N14 overfull because of a bad dipstick and I bet I have to do this too. Can't wait to see it all!
Hi JC thank you for sharing 😊
Good job jc it’s looking a lot better
I don't blame you there J.C 🔧 You're already that close. May as well go a little further and get what you need done 🙂👍
Love how you think! Your logic is flawless on servicing the accessory drive and rocker covers! Completely agree! Great Video! Excellent care and workmanship! Your work ethic is truly impressive!! P.S. Your Shop is just fine ... You are the only person who can judge whether it affects your work - which from what i can see - Your work quality is Excellent! And You have an great assistant she is both friendly and skilled !! Sorry you will have to wait to break even and make a profit!!
there is no profit in this. just helping a friend to build his business.
@@j.c.smithprojects Love seeing that attitude and action in you! I have done the same, You can't do every job like that but you can pick those situations to help where you can!
Got a big cam that needs a lot of this same love. Accessory drive cam cover gaskets etc. hoping mine makes it till the kid can do it in votech next year
😎👍
It’s a little hard to pressure wash when it’s freezing outside. You get stuck hand cleaning everything anyway.
Even the ‘Cummins’ brand acc. Drive is aftermarket with a Cummins logo. I wouldn’t hesitate a sec to put aftermarket on her.
i wish Milwaukee would send you one of the new propane heaters they just released that is battery or electric power so i could know how much noise they make heard they are quite and battery last all day if you just use battery power.
That’s a high-flow dual piston compressor
Good one 😅
come on out to Idaho, I have a N14 that needs an accessory drive relbuild
it would be an honor to come out to your place. long time follower and lover of old kenny!
If your shop is like mine which I do believe it is if it gets cleaned up I can’t find nothing
Seems like with this truck the guy might have been better off buying new frame rails and having you disassemble and reassemble the whole truck. Might have saved some time and money.
That is how i wanted to build it after i saw how bad the frame was. time and money wasnt there.
@@j.c.smithprojects The root of all evil and killer of all nice projects…. Money
Where are you located? I need a diesel mechanic like yourself!
Do you have parts for a frieghtliner fl60 with a 5.9 Cummins in it
maybe
I have the same pump setup but my problem is that the oil from the hydraulic pump is bleeding into the engine oil. I pulled the pump off but dont see a seal on my hydraulic pump but just a bearing with plastic sides. the plastic is cracked on it. Is that the seal on these things or is it further back or is it in the oil pump. But the oil pump looks like its to keep the oil in the oil pump not to stop the hydraulic oil. Any advice would be great.
if is leaking ps fluid between the oil pump and ps pump, the seal behind that bearing is bad or the bearing itself is bad and allowing the shaft to move too much out of round. this will ruin the seal as well
@@j.c.smithprojects thank you
wow lots of work on an older unit..Is it worth it?And how much mileage this repairs can last.Just wondering..Keep up the good work.Merry christmas
Absolutely. This is pre emission truck as well. Replacing it would cost probably $200,000 dollars. If you buy another older used truck you’ll be in the same boat with maintenance and fixing things. Class 8 trucks aren’t cheap to maintain and run.
new doesnt mean reliable. nor do the new trucks stay on the road as long as these units. this truck is 38 years old and still able to work all day every day. it will be here long after the "plastic" trucks are crushed and sent to china.
Was there a missing exhaust manifold bolt or was that an illusion of the camera?
Its a dowel pin locator.
Sir with all due respect all the work you are doing on this engine you would be have been better served to do a engine swap with the mess he originally brought you your apion on this suggestion would be appreciated with your Press sir would installing a tray or movebull table under it to allow the part you are removing to land / rest on be helpful
hind sight is 20/20.....i would have been better off to build the other truck from the beginning.
We knew you were gonna do it right, somehow, cuz one going bad after you'd been that close would cause you a stroke.
He shouldn't have any more trouble with that engine when you get done with it
Next week's video "So, as you can see, I pulled the transmission and motor..."
a messy workshop is a used workshop
Does the 20some pump come with a coffee machine, and 4 weeks of paid rent? Man, these people are so far from reality it's not even funny anymore.
You know why they charge that much for them right ? Because they can.Obsolete parts$$$$
How do you live with yourself... making your wife work in that dirty shop...... LOL
