Such an incredible experience being able to share this with you. Kyanq has been a concept floating around my head for over a decade and thanks to the support of OneArmenia I was finally able to pull it off. Filmed entirely around the beautiful country of Armenia, cities such as Goris, Gyumri and Yerevan were an honor to get to explore on our boards. This is Alexander Rademaker and I's second project working together and I couldn't be more flattered having him invest so much into a project so close to me.
Speechless! Even though I said speechless....seriously that was unreal
His filming and editing is next level! Crazy stuff!
+John Hill yeah but typing on a keyboard doesnt involve talking
Okay, I knew it for a long time, but now is a really good time to phrase it : your way of filming skaters, your way of chosing skaters with peculiar styles, I think you are way ahead, in every way. You are an authentic artist. I could recognize your style even if I saw 10 secondes of it. And you are constantly innovating. You and the skaters you are filming are fuckin' precious. Thanks for all the damn good content you bring to us! This was magical!
+Monsieur de Bonobo You're a saint. Always incredible to find somebody connecting with my work. Sincerest thanks for the motivation to keep pushin.
Hey! Thanks a lot. I will keep sharing and commenting hoping to bring more people in. Sincerest thanks for the perpetual amazement!
+Monsieur de Bonobo the highest of compliments an artist can get and he deserves it
I know how you feel... he is the ONLY guy out there that makes the guy behind the camera just as important as they guy in front of it. Bragic just nails it... every time! Even song choices are all contributing parts of something much bigger in the end. It's like of you got the Coen Brothers to make skate films.
True
Plot twist.... Brett made him skate backwards for the whole film!
YES! YES! YES! YESSER! You both are absolute geniuses. So amazing.
I know right? Dude this guy kills it I've never seen such amazing skate videos before I don't know how but get this guy famous haha he could make skate movies next level right here
+Matt Ennis he already does make next level skate videos!
Just plain incredible! Very Well Done to both of you!!!!!! 😊👍
Braille Skateboarding omg hiii
Ayyy hi)
This is one of the best things i've ever seen! #watchedit
WHAT
Hey sam
+Sam Tabor IKR What did I just watch idk but it was awesome. #HowDidTheyDoThat
Sam Tabor Can you even?
If he used motion track camera the puzzle is mostly solved. The final plaza scene, he could have taped the plaza for hours, then simply layered in the motion masked skater where it looked most dramatic, had to rely on a little serendipity, but that's what artists do.
He could have skated backwards here, but the people have long shadows and he has none, it's masked.
Throughout the film, using motion track he first taped the skater, then used same motion track and taped the people many times and used the best take. Very slick filming and editing, a masterpiece.
Nothing better than having my mind blown by two of my favorite people. Brilliant work guys.
Brett, the illusion is perfect. You took me to a different world, I was mesmerized throughout the entirety of this video... Breathtaking!
Must have taken hours and hours of editing. this is beautiful
Andy sent me here.. and I'm glad he did. This is some top quality directing/skating. Got yourself a new sub and fan :)
same here
Andy sent me here too hihi and im happy AF that I watched this amazing video
Same
+ThoughtsAreFreedom I'm also one of you guys! haha Andy sent me here and no regrets. Brett and Alexander did a very great job.
same
That is the best use of reverse motion I have ever seen done in any film. Unbelievable work on both ends, skating and video. Amazing.
Beautiful cinematography, beautiful skating.
5 minutes of absolute perfection and mind blowing filming+skating.
Thank you for the adventure.
Respect from Armenia ! Great job guys !
That is some incredible editing and filming. Beautiful!
haha made my day seeing you here, even when it is 5y old :D
Andy Schrock sent me, this was a magical video, made by Brett and Alex, only the two jedi's can make something better than one
It is a CRIME that more people haven't seen this absolute masterpiece... This has to be one of the most revolutionary works of art ever, Brett
360 semi flip cross foot right out the gate, wow!
Alex has come so far, this is a perfect blend of his superb skating and Brett's ingenious film making. Great work guys!
uau1!! this is a beautiful piece of art! thank you for making it!
I'd love to see a making of...
Hi Brett,
I would like to congratulate him on video and at the same time thank you.
I am of Armenian origin and live in Brazil. I've been twice to Armenia and always took my skateboard.
Your movie was amazing ... ahhh, how I wish I had taken part.
How many memories... the Republic Square, Mount Ararat, the Matenadaran
Congratulations...man. you tore my tears
Shenoragal em!
I've never seen such good editing. This was incredible. You should be way more successful for what you're doing!
That last shot of him skating thru the couple was just perfect. Your work is always stellar bruh.
Every time I watch this... I'm just blown away, left floating in the breeze. It's just beautiful.
it reminded me the first video I saw on your channel years ago. If I remenber well this one was the opposite regarding skater and crowd
Brett Novak AKA the Alejandro Iñárritu of skateboarding videography. Simply incredible.
Everything in this video, the filming, location, skating.. Just incredible!
The shit alexander pulls of is just amazing and the way you filmed and produced the vid only makes it better
Andy sent me here and i just had my mind blown. I don't think i blinked once. Entirely new and unique type of skate video that holds a perplexing rare type of skateboarding.
The creativity involved in skateboarding does go unnoticed by many in this backwards world. Expressing ones true passion is the real world. Enjoy!
Please please please do an explanation on how you did that awesome illusion!!!!
My guess is just him recording 2 frames of it with the same angles and reversing one and cropping him in from the other
Always stepping up the game, with every big video you release. But you really outdid yourself on this one, this is a work of art. And the fact that Alexander Rademaker is killing it on a regular basis now just tops the icing on one hell of a beautiful cake. Amazing work Brett!
Through your eyes, skateboarding becomes more of an art form. It's not only about a skater doing an amazing trick, it's about the whole entourage. I really love your style, Brett. Thank you for sharing.
I don't understand why these shorts aren't getting more views because they are amazing.
Brilliant! Seriously that was spectacular!
The amount of work put into editing this must have been crazy, Wow. So worth it!!! Great film. (I entered)
I've just watched this as part of the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival online archive (week 9). I have to say this is one of the best films I've seen so far in the archive. You have captured not only the spirit of skating but also some of the culture of the people - I loved the little rabbit too! Awesome :)
The Black Volga strikes again!!! Can´t believe you put Low Roar!! :O that song is pretty awesome!!!
Amazing work Alexander and Brett! this is just amazing!! amazing tricks, locations, editing, filming style and editing style!!! just WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't even comprehend what it's like to edit this video
Damn, i love John for sending me here, this channel is awesome!
That was absolutely amazing, love the skating, and definitely love the artsy look to it, and the backwards theme
Mind = Blown
plot twist: the guy did actually do everything perfectly backwards
this dude is just...omg I cant even describe it..why doesn't he have 10 million subscribers???? my favorite filmer/editor of all time.i cant stop watching your videos.i just got back into skating after a ten year break and god am I excited to start skating again after watching your videos.its 230 am in Cleveland but shit im about to hit up a local spot and skate that shit.every time I watch your videos it just makes me want to skate and want to skate better in hopes of maybe one day having the privilege of having you film me or even just meeting you.i would go crazy if I got to shake your hand.i normaly don't check out other peoples channels if they get a shout out in someone elses video but I was watching andy shrock and you were in a newer video of his and he said to check out your chanel, normaly I wold just pass but for some reason I clicked the link, watching this video and immidetly watched it atleast 3 or 4 times and than went out and skated, your and inspiration to all skaters man,for real for real.hats off to you friend.i hope to god you come to Cleveland one day and I could just meet you, shake your hand and talk skating, maybe get in a sesh or two and I could show the local scene and I could show you the local skate shops.please please please keep doing what your doing pal.i will always be a fan.. -chris redel aka big chris aka figbat
4 years later and still is my favorite modern skate part. I just re-watched "sight unseen" and "jaded" after dusting off the coaxial cable and vhs's..
Parts like Heath Kirchart stick in my head for the art of the shot, music choice and a slue of other reasons. I make a point to keep coming back to this vid when I feel ive gotten too old or beaten down to make a sesh happen, you hit every aspect I love about skateboarding in this one part alone.
Same reaction everytime.. Pride in the sport I chose to define me. The art its painted in scars and friendships. And most importantly, what it taught me about me.
Overcome. Perseverance...
Thank you again for all you do for the sport and community at large.
Art. Not just skating, not just filming. Truly beautiful
Finally!!!🙌😄
How. The. Fuck? This is amazing, both skating and editing. Just look at 4:56...
Damn, this was so good. Some serious brain trickery going on and your shots and color on top of it are top notch. Easily my favorite skate filmer.
so not only was alex rademaker doing mind blowing skateboarding but then the who world was backwards just to add more mind bendingness to this. the whole thing was insane. in particular alex weaving and doing tricks through backwards walking crowds and not hitting anyone was my fav part. I entered
How did you pull off the end where he was doing tricks in and out of people. I thought you filmed a spot and then reversed it and then filmed him doing tricks in the same spot and just overlapped but that last bit makes me question that because he is interacting with the reversing environment. I don't know but I love learning how people do these things. It blows my mind.
definitely seeing a behind the scenes and post production would be just as interesting as the final product
+Intuitive Wonder Oh yeah. that would be awesome.
+Jacob Mortensen He obviously had Alexander skate and do all the tricks backwards and simply reversed the footage.
Danny B Long bet lmao u right
+Danny B Long He did all the tricks switch
I just don't understand! This was awsome!
Well that was nothing short of amazing. Saw the other short film on alex's channel just yesterday, you've definitely taken this one to a new level!
Impressed by the amount of talent in this short, not only your way of filming it, The locations, the shots, score choice...but also Alex's skating, he's so creative...the great Mullen would approve. To be honest, i'm impressed the most with the little girl at 4:52 on the bike, Amazing! ;)
plot twist: all tricks were done fakie :D
How is that made????
I guess you Record twice, one for everything backwards and other just The skater itself making tricks. Then you put all together and make a mask in the skater scene overlaying to the backwards scene... I dont know, just a bet
This was by far the best skate short film I have ever seen. Great work guys 😏
i was waiting for this for such a long time! i haven't even watched it yet but i know it is gonna be mind blowing!!
was alexander rademaker just edited inside the vid or he did those thing going bacwards ?
+Michael Williams You are*
+Michael Williams yeah well it just bothers me how people dont know simple english
+Michael Williams oh shit dude
+Michael Williams i did not mean to offend you dude ... i'm sorry ... just chill okay ?¿
+Kiks B. he was just edited, notice that some tricks would be impossible, like crossfeet tricks for instance, because he can't click out of that position
Wait. How? I'm so confused.
4.45 the scene at the square....how! Amazing Brett! Thanks for this work of art.
This is fantastic. The artistic approach to skateboarding and having the environment operating backwards while Rademaker is clearly moving forward works as a subliminal message and almost social commentary in a way. You can clearly tell Rademaker has spent hours reviewing Rodney Mullen's skate videos and then taking those tricks further and doing them the way only he could do. This is why I love Skateboarding, the intrinsic value and uniqueness of it. Sorry for the long comment.
Best artistic short skate film I've ever seen. Most other examples fall short. This is perfection.
My favorite part is all of it. I love how the videography and the skating complement each other perfectly. Absolutely amazing art. I want more. A Rad is in a world of his own. I ENTERED
magnifico, os videos desse canal não são apenas videos são obras que devem ser guardadas inova todas as videos part, parabéns!!!
Not a single second of this is spared from the intense beauty you've tried to impart.
Thank you Andy shrock for introducing me to Brett Novak. This was unbelievably magnificent!
This is awesome!!! The music, the different camera angles, the skating, the cuts,.... And the final shot is amazing, where it looks like Alex is dodging that little girl on her bike and then he skates in between the two pedestrians. I think you did an epic job there Mr Novak! And you, Alex, did some nice skating there (Hammer! Weiter so!)
So keep up the good work and thank you for the entertainment!
The creativity in this video, not only in the editing but in the skating, is just amazing .
I'm so glad you spend so much time picking out the music for your videos. It really adds so much. This song is absolutely PERFECT for this video.
This is, what I feel, is *exactly* what skateboarding is missing. For such an innovative craft, it's baffling how stagnant it has become in regards of filming. I'm sick and tired of super-close-up shots with fisheye lenses and the same boring tracking shots that they do in *every single skate part ever*. It's boring and bland. This is such a beautiful breath of fresh air. Especially the artistry of the long distance shots at between 1:45 and 2:00; the set-up shots, the staging, the spot-on tracking of the manual, the timing with the music, the whole part just puts a huge smile on my face. I love it, thank you.
Marvelous job you did Brett! Thank you for going to my country and making this incredible move. I wish the most beautiful KYANQ to you!
Well this was spectacular!! Always happy to see the stuff Alex comes up with, and the editing... superb!!
Im sure someone will call you from hollywood you are fantastic this is art true art
This is amazing. Like so many other commenters, I'm blown away by the effects. The skater is unique in his style as well. The whole thing is excellent.
The cinematography in this (much like all your videos but this one in particular) is absolutely stunning. Big fan of the art you create.
Been holding off on checking out your channel and I can say I regret not checking it out sooner,Your eye is a very rare eye to be able to catch each and every amazing detail as it happens.Your work is flawless and should be out there even more than it is at this point, keep up the excellent work.
Wow...just wow...This was incredible..The effects, the skating and the SCENERY! I am going to show this to every person who comes by my apartment skater or not...This was breathtaking! I've always loved your work but this just really hit home for me! Brilliant!
This is Incredible and enchanting. Masterfully filmed and edited as well as showing the beautiful style of Alexander, thank you for this experience.
The mix of incredible skating filming and editing is mind boggling! Keep is up Brett!
I really enjoy your style of filming, Brett. The cinematography is just beautiful, and the music you choose complements both the shot, and the skater very well. I would absolutely love to see a full movie in this style. Keep it up, man!
This is actually incredible, a work of art in every way. The filming, music, skating, location... *everything* was just absolutely gorgeous! My hat's off.
Beyond happy that I listened to Andy and clicked on the link to this video. Absolutely amazing work 🙏🏻🙏🏻
That was amazing! I cant imagine how much editing and hard work... This is the best content I've watched in a very long time. Great video.
this is the first thing I saw when I woke up. absolutely blown away by all of it, some serious photography right thar..
I like this kids flow. Every minute detail planned 3 tricks in advance. Your filming is amazing as well!
Amazing skating and filming, this is one of the best videos I've seen in a while, it really made my day, keep doing what you're doing man and good luck on all you're next videos.
Fantastic piece of art. Beautifully shot and beautifully skated.
This is the first ever skateboarding vid, who made me cry! Just Speechless!!
Brett, this is a spiritual film with a powerful message, it resonates deep within. Sport, art, awakening!
Worth the wait, as always. That was phenomenal.
Yo, this is seriously some really good work. I'm so glad I saw this. Thank you. Brett Novak, you're what's up.
One of the best skate films I've ever seen, amazing job
WOW.. WOW..! ERES EL MEJOR BRETT NOVAK , TU TRABAJO ES INCREIBLE!
Been watching your videos for a long time. This is one of the most artist and interesting films yet.
Amazing amazing work. The amount work going into this video is unreal.
Amazing! Such an authentic and original idea with filming and editing to match! I've known Alex for a while and the pair of you two is something that is truly inspiring! You have long served as my inspiration in how I film and edit videos. Please continue to innovate and change the way that we view skateboarding, it is phenomenal.
Novak is awesome and the production was stunning. 10/10
