  • The City of London is NOT London! Looks like a play on words but it's not. They are completely different cities.
I have been may times in London and there is so many things to do in the City of London, but this time I thought about talking a bit about the secret City of London.
The City of London is also knows as The City and The Square Mile because it only has about 1.12 square miles.
I talk on the video about the City of London about some secrets and facts about it but there is one in particular that most of the people don't know, and that is the London Bridge and the London Tower are not owner by London's government but they are owned by The City of London Corporation.
Some say that the City of London is not part of the UK, I don't know about that but the facts that I say on the video about the city of London I know they are true.
The city of London has a different mayor and he is usually called The Right Honourable Lord Mayor of London, The Lord Mayor of London has full authority over The City of London, The Square Mile.
There are many conspiracies about banking and finance in The City but for sure The City owns a lot of buildings and places outside of the perimeter of The City.
Hit me up in the comments for any questions!

The Corporation of London is basically the local authority for the City it is not a Corporation in the sense of being a company. As for the Queen needing permission to enter she doesn't its just that the Lord Msyor greets her at the City boundary to acknowledge the city's loyalty to the Crown when she visits oh and BTW that's Tower Bridge not London Bridge.

It is most odd to see some people claiming that the City of London is not in the UK.
Other videos on CZcams make the point that some people even compare it to the Vatican City whereas it is actually the nucleus of the huge city which bears its name and that huge city is an amalgamation of villages and towns which gradually grew into one another. The City has certain privileges not granted to anywhere else and is loyal to its monarch and whenever that monarch enters the City there is a ceremony at the boundary where the monarch’s authority and the City’s unique privileges are mutually acknowledged. The monarch is NOT entering independent territory.
Why on earth should famous Britons such as the Duke of Wellington and Lord Nelson be buried in St Paul’s Cathedral, the seat of the Bishop of London, if they would thereby be lying in ‘foreign’ soil?

The city of London is just like the Vatican in Rome. It is an exclusive corporate bankers owned square mile entity with its own jurisdictions and financial laws. Which makes it a small independent Vatican like state within a larger London metropol.
So my advice to you is simple EQ ( emotional quotient intelligence ) is useful for human day to day existence and interaction but it is however irrelevant in application when dealing with intellectual issues demanding fact based logic analysis of visible perception reality.

The City of London is part of the United Kingdom and is subject to the same laws as other parts of the UK. It has a unique local governance which allows for some self autonomy going back over 1000 years. It’s special status in terms of financial services means that it acts as a conduit for offshore trust funds in British territories such as Gibraltar. This is why London is the wealth management centre of the world, major funds can be put in offshore trusts with the legitimacy of the special status of the City of London.

It's just NOT a "London borough". The Mayor of (Greater) London has no jurisdiction over the City of London. The City has its own Lord Mayor.
The City of Westminster is also a city, BUT it is not "the rest of London" - it is only ONE London borough. There are 32 London boroughs.
So Westminster, as a London borough, is under the authority of the Mayor of London who also controls all the other boroughs, BUT he does not control the City of London, because that City is not a London borough. It's its own county (NOT country). The country is the United Kingdom 😃

The City of London does carry out "democratic" elections just to a different set of rules, the electorate does vote, as do the corporate entities housed inside its borders. Its not what YOU call democracy, but it is a democracy.
It might surprise you to know that in ancient Greece who gave birth to democracy only about 30% could vote. _Participation was open to adult, male citizens (i.e., not a foreign resident, regardless of how many generations of the family had lived in the city, nor a slave, nor a woman), who "were probably no more than 30 percent of the total adult population"_
Democracy is an ideology, a concept that evolves and changes with culture, time and enlightenment. It's not a preset definition, its an conceptual allegory wrapped up in political and social preconception.
You have a big problem understand the difference between state, jurisdiction, geography, historical context, statutory bounds and political constraints, I wont even try religion and monarchy. Not surprising since I'm guessing you're a supporter of the EU - and the EU believes you MUST obey or you aren't part of something... So I see where your closed, blinkered mindset comes from.

Corporation in this sense is an old fashioned term for a borough council. And before you ask the Inns.of Court are places where Barristers have their chambers or offices the 2 in the City of London are called Temples as the Knights Templar had their London base in the area. If the City of London is independent of the UK as many people seem to believe then how come it is represented in both the House of Commons and the Greater London Assembly?

  • @jake6112

Fundamentally, the City of London is not secret. Half a million people work there every day (myself included).
It is absolutely a part of the UK. While I'm sure many Londoners would love for London to be an independent state from the UK, that is not a thing.
It is also part of London. You may mean that it is its own independent county within the Greater London region. It has its own governmental procedures and is classed as a district of England.
They didn't change the name to Guildhall; Guildhall came way before city hall.
You failed to mention anything about Aldermen and London wards, which would have been great to identify why the City does things its own way, and to introduce the concept of the London wall gates and boundaries.
You showed Tower Bridge and said "London Bridge", so that's a big discredit to the video!
"Only a few people know about this" is a wild statement with no supporting evidence. I can guarantee the majority of Londoners know this.
Ultimately, the City of London remains its own entity to this day to differentiate the old Londinium that the Romans founded to the Greater London area which has slowly grown bigger over hundreds of years.

Lots of bollocks here, mate, including:
    1. You didn't go from 'London' to 'not London'. You went from one part of London to another. Greater London has two cities - CoL and Westminster. If you go from Westminster to the CoL you are still in Greater London. The CoL and Westminster have the same Member of Parliament and the CoL has the same Member of the London Assembly as much of East London.
    2. The CoL doesn't have different laws from the rest of England.
    3. The map of London does, of course, include the CoL. You happened to choose a map showing the London Boroughs of which the CoL is not one.
    4. The bridge you showed was Tower Bridge, not London Bridge. Both are owned and maintained by the CoL - but many local authorities own many bridges so it's hardly big news. The Tower of London is owned by the monarch and isn't even in the CoL.
    5. England has dozens of guild halls.
You really need to do better.

This is BS. The City of London is part of the UK, but because it is centuries older than Parliament itself, it is afforded with special privileges agreed between the City of London Corporation and King John as per the 1215 Magna Carta ("Great Charter") in return for the City of London recognizing the King's authority. So once again, this video is total BS.

Just that you work there doesnt mean anything, especially not since we dont know if you actually work there and what your posistion. Not to mention if you are a member of one the guilds you wouldnt be talking in the first place. Oh and lets not forget there is quite lot of documentation going back to roman times about the special status of the City of London. And William the Conqueror being the one who granded them this special status. Although it doesnt goes as far back as the Roman times, simular documentation also exist of Washington DC; which isnt part of the US. I highly doubt your work there and Im pretty sure besides Hollywood fiction you know about the nobility and its structure.

*London is not a city, never has been a city, and never will be a city* contrary to what most people believe, therefore it is not a *city within a city* as that's impossible.
The *UK* has *69 cities* and *London* is not one of them.
*Greater London* aka *London* is a *county* and *region* which contains *2 cities.*
    Those *2 cities* are:
1 - The 8 mile square *City of Westminster.*
2 - The 1 mile square *City of London* which is also a *county.*
Therefore for *Greater London* to become a *city* they would either have to persuade those 2 cities to voluntarily give up their *city status,* or persuade the *Queen* to forcibly remove the *city status* from those 2 cities, neither of which will happen.
