Had a Soulo long time ago. Having returned to camping in Scotland, got the Soulo BL rather than the Soulo RL as got it for strength , not weight. 1 lb weight difference is nothing when inside a pack weighing 20lb + . Got a 2nd side pole to toughen up the side to make it totally bombproof.
You attached the guylines after erecting the tent. Would recommend getting into the habit of setting them up as you erect so that it becomes second nature.
The loop at end of guyline can be made smaller to give longer guyline
I wouldnt say that the orientation doesnt matter as in extreme winds, the side will be the weak spot without double pole'ing it, has over twice the surface area and only 1 pole to take the load rather than 2 for a narrow ends. This has been know to get bent. Also, the sidepole guyline peg coming out tends to be the reason the Soulo fails in storms due to the load on it.

It's a great tent I just don't fancy remorgaging my house to get one.

Solid tent, but way to heavy for my taste. I’m really baffled that Hilleberg doesn’t offer a < 1 kg tent

Hi there! That's completely understandable and weight is definitely a crucial factor for many outdoor enthusiasts.
Hilleberg is known for prioritizing durability in their tent designs, often at the expense of weight savings. While they do offer the Anaris as a sub-1kg option, it's important to note that it employs a walking pole construction, which might not be everyone's preference.
If ultralight weight is a top priority, exploring other brands or models that focus more on weight savings might be a suitable option. MSR, Sea to Summit and Big Agnus make some amazing options, we are so lucky to have such a wide variety of tents and brands to explore now a days all bringing something different to the table! Happy exploring!

Absolutely! Who knows what the next few years may hold for them we may see something in the lightweight category since its growing as a market!
