Grivel has had a rich history in the climbing world, pioneering equipment and manufacturing techniques that we still see the benefit of today, 200 years since they were founded. We went for a tour round their museum in Courmayeur in Italy to discover more.

Vintage mountaineering is one of the most interesting things to me.
What an amazing gentleman.
Love that guy !
Second that!
Best vid in ages, what an amazing guy.
Vielen Dank für eure Tipps liebe Grüße aus Deutschland 🇩🇪🧗♂️
Very insightful video about the evolution of the climbing gear! It's impossible to imagine how people were doing all these dangerous things with such heavy and bulky equipment (though still incredible for its time). We are so lucky to have these modern companions for our adventures, we just got to do it!
Matt's face at the end 12:38 ... like a child in a sweetshop
This is a great format for that type of video, it probably deserved a bit more time shooting that I guess wasn't possible. But still, very nice balance of information, aesthetics and advertising!
What an incredible story, great company. I sure would like to work there. So cool
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Approximate dates of each evolution would have been a great touch.
Wow this is awesome ! Going through whole 200 years of mountaineering history . Thank you !

Amazing!

Can someone recommend 3 or 4 climbing books that deal with and tell stories about the early history of mountain climbing from its inception to about 1950? I've read "The White Spider" 3 or 4 times and it always leaves me wanting more of the same but I know of no other books like it. Thanks,
All the kit the old timers used is so heavy! Makes modern climbers wonder how they managed.
@chankludo - Many of them didn't and died. Have you heard the term "the leader shall not fall"?. It was beyond risky back then.
@@stevewalston7089 Jup. And the "ropes" back then. Selfmade and couldn't hold a single fall. Well, depended of course. Insanely "bold" stuff!
amazing content
