    ▶️Butterfly valves can be used to stop, start and regulate flow.
    Butterfly valves are rotary motion valves, also known as quarter turn valves. Quarter turn valves are fast to operate as they only require 90 degrees of rotation in order to move from the fully open to fully closed position.
    A gearbox can be used to make operation of the valve easier for the operator. Gearboxes allow for incremental movement of the valve although the response time (how long it takes to move from the open to close position, or vice versa) is longer.
    The butterfly valve offers great advantage compared to the ball and gate valves as it is comparatively small, this is particularly true as the flow capacity of the valve increases.
    Butterfly valves have a very low pressure drop and are well suited to high flow, low pressure, systems. The butterfly valve is ideally suited for large pipe bore applications and offers very little resistance to flow when fully open.
    Like most common valve designs, butterfly valves consist of an actuator, stem, disc, bonnet and body.

    Hi there,
    Do you also have a video on comparing butterfly valves with offset, double offset and triple offset?
    I try to find stuff but never come across videos showing what the valves do.

    What might cause the disc to suddenly scrape particles off the seat? I have a valve that's been working for years. No change in any other parameters as I can see. And yet, recently, the valve scraped off a noticeable amount of particles.

    Can this lug wafer butterfly be used with natural gas ? And a servomotor for regulation ?

    • @savree-3d
      @savree-3d  Před 3 lety +1

      I visited a gas cavern once and a few pump storage stations etc. They had a lot of ball valves, but I don't remember seeing butterfly valves. If the seal can withstand the corrosive nature of the gas, then I imagine they can be used within gas systems. I would have to research it a bit though. Servomotor = yes, good for throttling.

    Why using gearbox increases response time?

    • @savree-3d
      @savree-3d  Před 3 lety

      If you have a gear ratio of 2:1, the valve takes twice as long to actuate i.e. you turn the wheel more but movement is less. Hope that helps.

      One here. I didn't know they are good for slurries? Slurries are generally abrasive and would eat the disc in the flow line.
