Y- Strainer 60s.mp4
Y-strainers are so named due to their distinctive 'Y' shape. They are designed to remove unwanted solids from fluids (liquids or gases) via a filtering element; this not only ensures the smooth functioning of downstream equipment but also minimises maintenance interventions and extends the life of the system.
A Y-strainer allows for easy cleaning and maintenance due to its design. The 'Y' shape facilitates a low pressure drop, thus maintaining efficient flow rates in the system. Y-strainers can be customised with various types and sizes of mesh or perforated screens, in order to cater for specific industrial requirements. They can also be manufactured from corrosion or erosion resistant materials as required. For all of these reasons, Y-strainers are used in many engineering industries.

    I appreciate the animation however the scientific principle explained is a bit wrong. As the gas moves from the impeller towards the diffuser the centrifugal force increases the velocity, which then decreases through the diffuser increasing pressure.

    Simcity 2000 first taught me the word powerplant. In my 6 year old mind, I was thinking they grow special plants that give off electrified power and powerplant is just what they called the building the plants grow in. I then had to learn about how coal gets burned, and that's what makes the power and how it pollutes the air.
