Reminder that in the lore of Ultrakill, King Minos was famously a pacifist who tried to reason with Gabriel before he razed the Lust Layer.
The same can’t be said for Sisyphus and it shows.
You know, I realized something. The design of the prime sanctums fit well with their Prime Souls' personalities. Minos was a pacifist and all-around swell guy who had tried to reason with Gabriel. As such, you fight no enemies on the way to his prison, calmly walking down the large spine staircase before facing his prison. Sisyphus, on the other hand, was a powerful and violent warmongerer. Thus, you end up fighting an entire army of difficult demons, including his own Sisyphian Insurrectionists. After fighting through said army, his cell has more security measures and extra locks to guard his Penopticon, which he literally RIPS HIMSELF OUT OF.
I love the fact that the optimal way to consistently parry the last hit of "You can't escape" is to punch him right in the crotch.

Minos also has an attack where he exposes his crotch and you just have to hit him in the balls to parry it. The Prime Souls are such gigachads that they can take multiple hits to the balls and just continue fighting.

You'll still need to do the entire gauntlet for the P rank tho.

Fun fact: Flesh Panopticon _was_ meant to be a full boss battle, but the devs decided it would be both easier and cooler to just skip right over to Sisyphus. There are plans to make it a full fight in a later update, though.

@@Phoeboi The devs have said that they are going to do it, but its going to be in its own separate thing called encore levels or smth which are basically the normal levels but with harder enemy placements and other small tweaks to make you suffer.
I’ve heard it will be a thing on higher difficulties, but I couldn’t actually point you to anywhere official that says that. I’ve just heard people talking about it.

45:05 funny thing is, when this first dropped yes. On violent difficulty by the second phase he went unparryable, which is what minos does as well but minos has a projectile that can still be parried. The devs apparently didn't test this in violent yet and so it was "a little bit" unfair. Now instead of no parry, he can just throw out as many attacks as he wants at the seconds phase instead.
Those days after the release were the only time I used rocket riding in a boss besides leviathan
A few people did the entire level without restarting on their first try when it released. This small change makes it even more impressive, since Sisyphus is still usually the harder section on the first few times through.

The machines in hell battle against the creatures in their quest to gain more blood. Since the terminals are stuck there, they watch and grade their battles. That’s why at the end of every level, the ranking screen with your time, kills, and style show up. The P which you use to buy weapons are a currency that the terminals give machines in return for the “best” battles (P-ranks and the like). That’s why V1 is held in such high renown as a machine, he’s uncovering levels that some terminals didn’t even know _existed_ before V1, and absolutely ultrakilling everyone in them.
Anyways, it’s just a bit of lore which I found fascinating the first time I read it.
I fear for Merg's sanity & health because of whatever the next Prime Sanctum will have in store when it's released.
I wonder how the last boss of the Prime Sanctum will be, because these Prime Souls for now are just tests of a few skills, Merg, i highly reccommend preparing you mental health.

In the Divine Comedy (which is what Ultrakill is based off of) in the deepest parts of Treachery (the 9th layer) there are 3 beings that are constantly being chewed by Satan (this version of Satan has 3 faces). On the left and right faces is Brutus and Cassius which both were responsible for the death of Julius Caesar. In the middle is Judas, the man responsible for the death and crucifixion of Jesus Christ himself.
My prediction is that we are going to be fighting not one, not two but *THREE* Prime Souls.
In other words if this prediction holds true, brace yourself.

the fact that sisyphus literally *breaks* free from the flesh panopticon with barely any help shows how much of a gigachad he is.
he can also get no help at all since he also breaks out if the panopticon dares to try to heal
the only reason it takes a while for him to break out is because he was basically unconscious until the panopticon freaked out.
I do wonder though, minos' prime soul didn't form until the prison broke... could he have broken out if his soul formed early like sisyphus?

It's nice how, despite how difficult the fight is, Sisyphus always provides you with lines of encouragement, telling you to "to keep 'em coming" every time you die, like he wants you to continue the fight instead of just giving up and shouting "yes! that's it!" whenever you get halfway through his fight. at 31:20, in the song “war” that plays when you fight sisyphus prime, has the “sands of tide” song leitmotif, which plays in level 4-2: god damn the sun, the greed level where you get lore about sisyphus, first fight the sisyphean insurrectionist, and etc. the motif sounds in my opinion almost "sinister", which kinda adds more to knowing how cruel of a tyrant sisyphus was during his reign. sisyphus doesn't regret a single thing he did in life or in the afterlife because he took constant joy in his rebellion against the inevitable.
one thing that i think is also worth noting is what all the bosses call you, which gives you more insight on the characters and their thoughts. gabriel refers to you as “machine”, an object, a thing that has only the thought to kill. minos refers to you as “creature of steel”, meaning he believes you are living, with actual thoughts, and are worthy of being fairly judged. sisyphus literally refers to you as “weapon”. i think that tells us what kind of a person sisyphus is.

@@RepressedDreameryea it's prob both, I do daily sissy with and without weapons and it's very noticeable how fast he attacks after 'destroy!' and after 'you can't escape!' and also after 'this will hurt.' this is even more noticeable in second phase. Those attacks are ones I always parry, so yea, he prob regains stamina aswell, seeing how fast he attacks afterwards.

Good luck with the P rank, by the way. Sisyphus is tough, but eventually you'll get the hang of it, just like Minos. You really have to focus on the parries and survivability in general.

Ngl i kinda regret that he learnt projectile boost because it renders the shotgun useless at close range and you kinda need it for healing.

if you wanted to, you could practice sisyphus prime by learning attack and parrying patterns by spawning him in the "sandbox" mode, which you can access through the terminal, or by skipping forwards through a secret passageway in the beginning of the level.
i totally understand feeling like the lead up to the boss is just enemy spam, but ngl when you know whats happening and start understanding it, its actually so good. you get into this flow of flicking your screen to parry mind flares, comboing a bunch of people for big instakills, so on. BUT YEAH AT FIRST ITS JUST FRUSTRATING. i legit had no clue wtf was happening the first times i played

One could make the argument that the entire boss fight is trying to intentionally mimic that "futile struggle" feeling. It's absolutely intentional and I find it hilarious. I can imagine people playing this game 10 years from now and just being so confused because they're missing the context about the sisyphus meme lol.

Merg, if you want to practice Sisyphus but not the entire enemy gauntlet, at the beggining of the level there is a secret high up with a shortcut for the boss fight, that is really helpful for practicing!
Also please don't forget about this because this is even more important, TAKE BREAKS whenever you START to feel anger building up, the angrier you are the worse you are gonna play, it happens to everybody.
when this level was released it was much harder than this in the first couple of days, so yeah this is the NERFED VERSION of the level which is complete insanity
it was mainly just the changes to sisyphus on violent that made it easier tbh. the only other big changes were -1 cerb and the blood tunnel no longer teleporting you

Coming from someone who can consistently P-rank P-2: If you want to p-rank it sometime, you should learn some of the more advanced tech first. You have so much more you can use, like nuking, railcoining, slabcoining, coin adding, rocket riding, instakilling mindflayers and maurices, chargebacks etc.
When you master the mechanics of this game, you'll see that P-2 isn't as unfair as it seems
P-3’s gonna be impossible without all the advanced tech isn’t it
Just for my curiosity, coin adding is just the double coin rail cannon shot double coin correct? Because I always thought that was railcoining, but by context clues through your comment I'm guessing they are separate things ones just the advanced of the other
That kind of thing can certainly be extremely useful, but it's not necessary at all. I've P-ranked P-2 multiple times now (and some custom levels with similar difficulty) without using any of them besides nuking. Getting good at evading attacks and tracking enemies you can't see is more than enough.

You were doing the right thing when you started only using the shotgun not caring about style nor score, and instead focusing on learning the patterns and parry-timings, you weren't "playing like a noob" by doing that, that is an essential practicing and learning procedure, you actually beat this level faster than I thought you would and faster than I did when I first played this level, and I had been playing this game for 3 years before this level dropped, you did incredibly well for a first playthrough, yes, this level is THAT difficult, good job!

Sisyphus would sometimes just force you through the floor, putting you into a free fall and then he tped to you and fell to his death while you were placed back into the arena.

a tip that i used against sisyphus prime is always being close to him, not next to him but close, also try practicing parried, don't use weapons just parry until you get used to parrying all of his atacks, i did it until i got him to a 1/4 of his life with only parries and tought i was ready to introduce the charge shot, then i defeated him, so i added shotguns, it's pretty useful also frustration makes it really hard, it took me a lot of tries to defeat him, and i gave up, but then i gave it another shot and i did it in 11 tries, 2 were from the panopticon and 7 were from the gauntlet mostly the weezer room because i forgot about the existence of the nailgun
also do shotgun swapping since it does more damage and it gives more style
after shooting with a shotgun swap to the other shotgun and shoot it skips the reloading animation
it also gives the quickdraw style bonus wich makes your style go up and your hard damage go down

The rocket launcher is pretty good against sentries (also soldiers) you just fire a rocket near them to launch them up (or slam near them so both you and the sentry fly up) and shoot the sentry with a rocket midair, hitting a rocket on a target thats currently in the air (flying enemies dont count) causes a big damage red explosion, it also launches the sentry more up allowing you to hit another rocket
also you can whiplash a light enemy (like a soldier) and then shoot it with the rocket while it's being pulled to cause the red explosion faster

Merg, you CAN practice Sisyphus Prime without doing all the rooms, there is a shortcut at the very start of P-2, you can rocket ride upwards and you'll go straight to Sisyphus Prime :D
You did it! That looked really hard! You don’t have to P rank it if you don’t feel like it, it would take a lot of time and patience. But if you do want to try, I know that after getting to the boss you unlock a secret shortcut hidden before the first ennemies of the level, that will lead you directly to Sisyphus ( more like Sussyphus ). With that, take care.
i find it very interesting that you think you know the inside outs of this game, thinking you have perfected it, and then hakita says, "nuh uh!" and rips it all away from you. this is what this level feels like. thank god i never have to do it again (just p ranked it)

Also merg as a tip you need to learn how to avoid enemy attacks cause the hard damage messes you up sometimes.
(DASH MORE PLEASE THE SISYPHUS FIGHT REQUIRES YOU TO DASH ALMOST ALWAYS!!!) Dashing basically gives you a small invincibility frame that allows you to avoid basically every attack sisyphus can do dashing is the key to killing sisyphus flawlessly
I keep going back to your ULTRAKILL playthrough videos and I watched the first video recently and I was like, "Wow. He went from that to this. How?!?!" honestly, skill 👍

also just a reminder! how long "hard damage" lasts is entirely dependent on the current style rank, and is a lot more unforgiving in violent. this makes using the whiplash so much on low health and low style is just gonna keep you on low health cuz of the hard damage it builds up. so might be best to get up close normally to heal than using whiplash, but that's only if you're not playing stylishly 😎

A bit of a thing about the error code at the end terminal. It’s the end link of an Unlisted CZcams Video by Hakita himself. It leads to an ARG (the second one this Prime Sanctum gave us).
The first ARG was in the first theme of P-2, that being Tenebre Rosso Sangue by Keygen Church. The second one is at the end terminal. Both were solved within a matter of hours. The end terminal gave us a rather disturbing revelation. I highly encourage that you check out Shadoenix’s video on the ARG we got in P-2 if you want to look at it during your own time.
As far as P-2 and the P-Rank is concerned, dude, take your time with it. That level is meant to exhaust you in more ways than one.

Love how 2 attempts after saying you need V2 again you entered the zone and just crushed lemon melon man
if your struggling with destroy, something that helps is that your dash has invincibility, so if your in a situation where you cant escape the blast radius, try to time your dash with the explosion to through it. it helps if you memorize the noise before the explosion and time it with when that ends. this same trick can help alot with the big explosion he does if your too far to parry it

If you want to play more ultrakill(and not wait for a new update) you can always check out some custom community created levels via The angry level loader, it takes a bit to install the mod downloader for ultrakill and the level loader itself but once you do you'll open a whole new world of Levels, some are insanely hard( maybe even worse than P-2's gaunlet" some have unique mechanics, enemies or just creative level design, and all are very worth playing, so I recommend you check it out.

There is a skip straight to the bossfight at the beginning of the level, above and to the left of the highest two horizontal pillars. Also you can parry by shooting your shotgun with the same timing that you would use when parrying with the arm

You can practice sisyphus prime without through the enemy fights, there is a shortcut at the start
