  • This video will describe the trolleybus system of Budapest, the beautiful capital of Hungary. The network can typically be found in the side streets of the city, forming a local connection to higher-order transit modes in Budapest, such as the amazing tram system • Scenic & Record-Breaki... or the metro • The Metro with History... . The fleet is a mix of Ikarus and Solaris trolleybuses, with the 280T of Ikarus days being counted. Solaris has a large foothold in Budapest, dominating the fleet of trolleybuses with their Trollino family.
This video is the 30th episode of the series Urban Transport, with full-on descriptions of various urban public transport networks (mostly in Europe).

Great video! A video about the HEV suburban trains would be interesting too.

      Thank you!
Yes, that system is on the wishlist, once I will visit Hungary again!

I love the trolleys in Budapest and their iconic red livery! I don’t get to ride them too often because my family lives across the river in the Buda suburbs but I get to ride some of the inner city routes sometimes! It’s a nice little network that has recently got new buses. Also props for trying to pronounce the names of places correctly! It’s not easy but you did a pretty good job! Just keep in mind that we roll our Rs, and that a single S is pronounced as an ‘SH’ like in English. Ö, Ő, Ü and Ű are similar to how they’re pronounced in German. As for the expansion of the network, this has mostly happened in the form of individual route extensions. There has been occasional talk of expanding service and returning to Buda but nothing concrete has resulted as of late.

I'm glad the Budapest trolleybus system got an appearence in these series, the video was very high quality just as always, I just couldn't complain this was really well done! But if you already asked, I've done some tiny bit of research on the system's future, and seemingly the latest updates in the system were last year when they celebrated the 90 years of the trolleybuses in Budapest, and new trolleybuses were bought for the system, but no plans for new lines were introduced... The only other project I could find that was considered not so long ago was making an extension from Orczy tér to Kőbánya alsó train station, but an alternate route was proposed going from Orczy tér to Népliget, and after that one got built, the original plans seemingly got just forgotten. Other than this I can't seem to find much more about the trolleybuses, as I don't live in Hungary and don't have that much of a knowledge of Budapest's systems nor about how to search for the info, I'm far more invested into the Bratislava Trolleybus system which I know how to research and also have friends and family members working in.

If already mentioning that tho', an interesting fact, exactly today and tomorrow it's historic days for the Bratislava MHD, and I'm so happy that I can ride these historic vehicles, in fact, I'll be heading off to do that right now!

    Great video! :)
You were a bit more lucky than me - I've managed to see only Solaris Trollino trolleybuses. There were no Ikarus trolleybuses during those days (no 280T/411T/412T)... :(

I didn't know Ikarus still had a live fleet. We had buses( 280.08 ) from that company in my town, but they went out of business in the late 90s.
