It can make someone do those things. Bipolar can cause a complete lack of impulse control. Medication and therapy helps. And of course she (or anyone else) should not use being bipolar as a way to avoid accountability for their actions

I have a mom like this, I know what the daughter is feeling when she says she needs permission to walk away. You're raised to feel guilty.... especially by an enabling father, and to feel responsible for your mom's behavior. And even though you know it's crazy, you still have been programmed to deal with it and take on the responsibility. Then you finally feel like you can't take it anymore, but you feel too guilty to break free. Break free girl, it is okay!

Even at the end, when her daughter is at her breaking point and is choking back tears while crying out for the love and support she was never given from either of her parents, her mother was still more concerned about making excuses and telling her she's wrong than listening to her daughter's feelings. She is a lost cause.
It is ok to close that chapter. We all have to protect "our own" and that includes ourselves, mentally and physically. If one of our family is toxic, we should remove ourselves from them. There is no law that states that we have to love our families.

Three women in my family have/had behavior similar to this woman. Yes, three! The chaos and insanity penetrated every aspect of my life until someone very wise told me, "You do NOT have to have a relationship with anyone that you do not want in your life, family included." I turned, walked away and never looked back. Best decision I ever made. Ironically they started a smear campaign within the family to explain my departure and told everyone I was mentally ill. Actually I was mentally well for the first time. Two of the three women have passed away - one from suicide and one from natural causes. One is still living and creating chaos and havoc everywhere she goes. They never changed but I did. I feel proud that I had the courage to break the cycle.

There is no shame or wrongdoing in purging toxic ppl from your life! I did (even close family) and my life completely turned around- I became healthier physically and mentally. I'm happy and feel like I have so much more control of what I allow to affect me. Somewhere along the line, someone thought it should be a rule that to be a good person, you have to deal with family, no matter what and that's not ok and for me, I was able to reestablish a healthy relationship with them without their drama and stress coming in.
My heart breaks for the daughter. She only wanted a healthy relationship with her parents, and she put so much heart and soul into her efforts.
