Gilbert Arenas, Michael Jordan
SUPER-DUEL Full Highlights
GS Warriors vs Washington Wizards
March 23, 2003
The Arena in Oakland
GA - 41 pts, 6r, 5a, 1s / 15-23 fg, 4-8 3pt, 7-9 ft
MJ - 24 pts, 5r, 4a, 2s / 11-23 fg, 1-1 3pt, 1-1 ft
Gilbert Arenas played basketball without fear. He was far from ever being intimidated by the best; this being the first game that exemplified the notion. As an NBA sophomore, Gil scores a career high (at the time) 41 points on MJ’s Wizards. “But Jordan was 40 years old” one might say. That strays from the point. It’s the fact that the most accomplished player in league history arrived in Oakland that March 23rd. Whether MJ was on the floor as a player or watching court-side as a fan, either would have been incentivizing enough for Agent 0 to electrify the night. He played big when the biggest was present.
Gilbert had a knack for such performances. This is the same guy who scored 35 points at 22 years-old in his first matchup against Kobe and Shaq’s Lakers as a member of the Washington Wizards (February ‘04). It’s the same guy who dropped 37 in a December battle with Kobe at Staples the following season; 37 once again in February ‘07 against Bryant’s Lakers in their 2nd duel of that 2006-07 campaign; and of-course his most famous performance, the career high 60 points in LA just 2 months prior.

Michael Jordan played 30 games in the NBA as a 40 year-old. In those games, he averaged 22.4p, 7.2r, 3.4a and 1.3s on 46% in 39.9 mpg. Included was a 43 pt performance against the Finals destined New Jersey Nets, a 39 pt showcase in his last visit to MSG, and a stretch of 4 straight 20p/10r games.
To put this into perspective, Paul George’s best statistical season in Indiana (‘17) saw numbers of 23.7p, 6.6r, 3.3a and 1.6s on 46%. Prime Brandon Roy (‘09) logged 22.6p, 4.7r and 5.1a on 48%. Steve Smith maxed out at 20.1 ppg, Richard Hamilton 20.1, Rudy Gay 21.1, James Worthy 21.4, and Jalen Rose 22.1. The reality that 40 year-old Michael Jordan at arguably his career’s “worst” was just as statistically productive if not more than all of these players at their respective individual peaks is absolutely absurd.
I understand that comparing 30 games to a full season’s worth can often be misleading, as can overlooking MJ’s specially designed situation in Washington, but that’s why I’m very clear about Jordan’s time at 40 in the NBA. For the entirety of the ‘03 season (age mid-39 thru 40) he averaged 20.0p, 6.1r, 3.8a and 1.5s on 45% in 37.0 mpg. Still remarkable.
Jordan 2002-03:
Age 39 (52g) - 18.6p, 5.4r and 4.0a on 43% in 35.3 mpg
Age 40 (30g) - 22.4p, 7.2r and 3.4a on 46% in 39.9 mpg
Total (82 g) - 20.0p, 6.1r and 3.8a on 45% in 37.0 mpg

They were also playoff bound before his injury against Sacramento in his first year back. I don’t remember the 2nd best player on his team I think it was Richard Hamilton.
That's not even the half of it he played all 82 games averaging 37 min. A game that season that he turned 40
Lebron averaging more than that at 38
@@vincentvega9747 and he ain’t playing 82 games a season even with no injuries
@H R Jr yea mj also retired about 2 times more than lebron lebron played 9 straight finals Olympics so I think bron has played more games than mj ever has
Crazy cause Arenas joined the Wizards a few month later
Mike said “hell nah!”
Looking like Steph out there
man gilbert was swishing every shot💯😮💨
This was so fun to watch. Arenas was ahead of his time. Lacing threes like there free throws
This is basically a midrange porn highlight reel. We all knew Jordan possesses some of the prettiest jumpers, but damn Agent Zero's J is a forgotten beauty.
porn tho?
The wildest thing is that the crowd is getting loud for every single bucket by jordan
I'm here from Gil's Arena after Gil said he gave a 39 year old MJ all of 41.
Here from the pod😂😂
Jordan still looked really good Agent Zero was a beast so when you see him talking his stuff now he has right to and so dope he played well against both Jordan and Kobe cant take nothing away from his game
A young J A Adande at 3:42
Gil’s muscle memory was on point. If the shot hits the rim it doesn’t count
Great video, I need more Agent0 on the Warriors highlights
Great upload
Troy Murphy and Gilbert Arenas would have been much better in the current era. Dunleavy as well.
Troy was my guy #Jersey
Gilbert Arenas, in the talks of being taken by the Wizards later, here, showing the front office the cards he could offer on the table
love this
Good footage
greatest job interview
The gems on this channel are endless!! Really enjoyed seeing early footage of Arenas. And great take on MJ's production at age 40. People have used his Wizards days as a punchline in the past, but that downplays how impressive his play was during his return to the league.
Hi there. I could use your help with something...

man, thanks so much for this, it was a great watch! Gil has mentioned this performance in his No Chill podcast but first time seeing the actual highlights. And Jordan is such a GOAT, lol.
You got it man no prob 👌
Gilber a real dawg lol that man brought pistols to the ball game . #IFYOUKNOWYOUKNOW
Agreed
Just watched the pod 😂
Damn I don’t remember Gilbert Arenas playing for the Warriors back then.
Gilbert Arenas is the Greatest of all time
No chill Gil got long ass arms😂😂
Arenas like a mix of Steph and Harden
Imo he’s really the first iteration of dame lillard type players
@@offwhitekicks9038yea he gives me lillard vibes
Here cuz of Gil’s Arena 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Gilbert Arenas in his prime is better than James Harden and a lot of other greats his game really was Hall Of Fame level at its peak shit just didn’t go right but he still chillin he up
You smoking crack why would you say harden out of all people
No chance
@@vladokingsley3775 he very much was actually he was going toe to toe with prime Kobe and even put 60 points on him
I definitely agree when it comes to better than James Harden
No way he's better than harden
Good quality tv Right there you can even hear the buzzing ahh memories
He wasn’t lying on his podcast. Dude a walking bucket
he got the name Agent 0 for a reason. I remember him getting 40 in a playoff game when he wasn’t even supposed to play bruh just went out balling
Always wanted to see a replay of this game didn’t realize it was on CZcams
I grew up a wizards fan so I remember watching this game at home but I was so young then I don’t remember much except Gilbert dropping 40 and then Gilbert signed to us that same off season I was hype…. This game was a precursor for his wizards days so when he went on that scoring tear from 04-07 I wasn’t surprised in fact I was one of his biggest fans
But the reason I’m here is because I’ll always remember this 40 point game and forever I always assumed Gilbert was dropping some buckets on MJ and I always wondered why he never talks about this game and looking at the replay i realize Jordan never guarded him
But he sure was giving Jerry Stackhouse that work lol
These days I’m not much of a wizards fan and haven’t been since he left in 2010
Apparently reading the comments he mentioned this game on his no chill podcast
And now I’m seeing a vladtv interview about it lol
Arenas with beautiful buckets
Damn I completely forgot about this game.
Gil is cooking
Let that been a prime Jordan, the Warriors would of get they ass busted 💯
👌👌👌
Anybody see that move Mj put on dude at 2:40😭😭😭
Nice bro! Can you find Arenas vs Stephen Curry 2010 season? it was on youtube but not anymore
Thanks man. And Im sure I can.
i know Mike Dunleavy was begging for the night to be over with lol
Who’s here after watching Gil’s arena?
High volume 3 pt shooter who’s overlooked 🤦🏿♂️
then mj gets him on wiz next year
Jordan had nothing to do with that. Arenas signed as a free agent in August 2003, Jordan was let go as president in May 03.
JA Adande sighting @ 3:50
Jordan choked a 14 point lead 😂
Dame Lillard gives me Arenas vibes for sure
2:30 I'm not familiar with this penetration high post moves by Jordan probably he got from pre-injury Grant Hill, seen many highlights but for me this is the first time I've seen him do this. As Wizard he made adjustments to his style of play compared to the Bulls days due to his age and injuries.
He's done that on numerous occasions in his career not just the Wizards years
you crazy, this was one of his go-to post moves lol
@@Hawkhunter07 go-to post move from the low not high, majority of the videos will show that
Here after Gil said he gave Jordan 41 lol
lol.. and he gave lue 41 not mj. haha
Today’s podcast brought me here
Here cause the Latest Gil’s Arena. Gil tried to erase MJs name?! 😱
Arenas - JRich - Dunleavy - Jamison - Troy Murhpy. Thats a good albeit great young core
13 out of 45 threes
Imagine like a ‘91 MJ out there with youthful legs, energy and attributes- just pinning shots off the glass and picking up Gil on D to intimidate.. all the extra things young MJ would do to dominate the game. At this age it’s just autopilot with his midrange ability. Still holding court too.
I'm young so im just gon say gil would've cooked jordan
@@Beanz06yea Gil giving Jordan 40 a piece 😂😂
@@Cloudywuztrash take. Jordan will kill him inside and out. Post his small ass up and taking it off the dribble and dunking on him. Scottie and MJ will shut him down on the perimeter.
Picking up Gil from where? 😂 Jordan would’ve had his 30-40 UNLESS he had to chase Gil around. This ain’t like picking up Craig Ehlo. He would’ve had to waste some real energy.
@@user-bk8gx3jd7i The Bulls had Ron Harper, Scottie Pippen, and MJ. It would be a tough night for Gil on both ends lol.
why nba players stopped chewing gum?
Here's the actual game.. tyronn Lue who's about 5'8 was guarding Gilbert arenas for the entirety of the first half.. which he got the bulk of his points.. I don't think he scored any points on MJ. Gilbert needs to get off the 💊
czcams.com/video/jYR4w2YCJl8/video.html&si=VbzR8uuoNG-2-4yD
Exactly. He says he dropped 41 on MJ but MJ was barely guarding him - they weren’t really matched up…. It’s sounds good to say on his podcast though..
His Airness vs Black Mongoose
Games be fixed like shit. You could see it, they put Dunleavy and Murphy on Jordan. But double teamed Arenas ???
Bullying Ty Lue
7:02 This yall goat can’t even post up Gilbert Arenas 😂😂😂😂😂😂
He cooked ty lue😅
he cooked the wizards, basketball is a team sport
Then torched Kobe with 60
Stackhouse was trash 🗑
He a good singer tho
13 three pointers out of 45 attempts is trash!!! Throw the whole jordan away😅😅😅😅HE CANT SHOOOOOOTTTT
Gil says he gave Mike 41 but Stackhouse and Lue were the 2 guarding Gil the most in this game. I don't think Gil is capable of telling the truth. His career consisted of a few high scoring games and the gun thing. But he talks like he's this legend of the NBA. #Delusional
It's basketball talk my man. "A few high scoring games". You sound like a hater.
A FEW? HE AVERAGED 29 FOR SEASON!!
He averaged 26, 28 and 29 over 3 years with All NBA nods before getting injured. You're not telling the truth either.
@@silewis9396 💯
folks do that just like the jj barea comments about lebron where we all saw marion guarding bron all series.. folks just say it because it’s a team sport, if a player can’t be guarded then the team needs to step up
If Gilbert Arenas gave Jordan 41 you know he played in a weak ass era 😂😂😂😂😂😂
the fact that this is something to brag about is so sad. 😂
Agent zero scored 60 on Kobe’s lakers so...
Arenas was a monster on GSW....i was so pissed when he left for Washington
MJ knew LeBron was coming the next year, so his ass got scared and retired for a 3rd time. Prove me wrong
Yeah a 5x mvp, 6x finals mvp, 10x scoring champ was scared of an 18 year old high school kid. That makes sense.
@@dcshow happy u get it
Jordan only returned to gain go from an exec to an ownership stake in the Wizards for playing and improving interest in the team but the then owner Abe Pollin reneged on the deal and undermined a lot of moves MJ was trying to make (ex. Trading Kwame Brown for Elton Brand) so they had a falling out. Accordingly, MJ didn't return to exec postion either after this season.
@@noblevessel220 Someone with actual facts rather than trying to fit a narrative with unfounded BS
@@noblevessel220 man elton brand for kwame?? If he had made that trade the wizards would be alot better. Elton was a beast for the clippers.
Ty lue has to have the most fragile waist by any nba player. Bro literally always got crossed with the least effort
Gilbert had a great talent for scoring, but not D, decision making, or winning
Coaching matters. How many rings jordan or kobe would have without Phil Jackson ?
