Correction:
At 4:05 the title "Algorithmic Thinking" should instead be "Computational Thinking". While it may sound similar, these classes are quite different.

welp this is as good a reason as any
I really love Rice and am eagerly awaiting my admissions decision! This video is awesome, and the campus looks absolutely beautiful! I would love to see a video on why you chose Rice and some pros/cons of attending. Thank you!
Thanks so much Laura! A pros/cons vid of rice is something that I want to make in the future!
Working on my application now. This video really inspired me to apply to Rice, the way you really go into detail about not just your day but how classes really are!
Glad you like it! Best of luck with your applications!
Try to lower your background music when you're talking so we can hear you clearly. Otherwise, a good video. Keep it up 🙂.
Thanks, I'll definitely keep that in mind in the future!
Gerald Wang woah a CZcamsr who can handle criticism
@@dannehsg978 constructive criticism 😁
@@kadenrwy criticism nonetheless
Love the vlog, keep up the good content! I'd love to go to Rice next year, waiting to hear back on my ED decision this week!!
Good luck!
Thanks man, really great video! working on my application now.
Good luck!
Hey, I really love your vlog. Rice is a great place for students, its a paradise on earth.
Thanks so much! Rice is truly incredible!
Gerald Wang Rice is my dream school. What where yours stats?
@@soupdrinkerc Hey Carson! I actually made a video discussing that:

love your videos man keep up the good work
thanks! glad you liked it!
hey, thanks a lot for the video! Some of the insights about life on campus has helped me with my application to Rice.
Good luck! Hope everything goes well
What a great vlog! You should definitely do more of these. Try making a Rice University Campus Tour if you can :)
Yea! I'll see if I can do that someday!
ngl i’ve been binging these vlogs while doing homework and now i’m convinced i want to apply to rice next year lmao
Ayy nice! Wishing you the best!
Really great video! I love the transitions.
Also, I don't know if this is just me, but I feel like the background music is excessively loud in most cases. Just a little quieter all around would be fine. Other than that, love the content! Keep it up!
Thanks for the critique! I'll definitely keep that in mind for next time.
Haha the KD pencil is extremely relatable. I got accepted last week - so excited! #2023
That's amazing! You'll love it here!
Awesome video man! The campus looks so pristine and beautiful! Submitting my app today and hoping for the best!
Also I had a quick question: Do you (or other students) go off campus often for activities like internships, community service, or even just to hang out? If so, is the majority of the activity in Houston around Rice, or do you need to use public transportation?
Thanks Jerome! Good luck with your applications! From my own experience, it really varies from person to person. I have people that go out every weekend (and sometimes weekdays) while others stay on campus most of the time (I personally only really go out on weekends). Most community service opportunities and internships are outside rice so people do go off campus for that. I will say that, unless you're into museums, you will definitely benefit if you have a friend who can drive (otherwise you're gonna have to uber or use the metro) to get to places.
It is great!! Start to like Rice!!
Nice! Rice is a great place!
Great video! This really has me excited for attending Rice next year!
Also do you have any advice on which writing seminar to take?
That's great! Hope to see you there!
@@signupforstuff8502 If you're taking it just for the grade then I would recommend fwis 168 which is building designs (be sure to ask your advisors they probably know more easy classes). Otherwise, take whichever topic interests you the most!
Thank you so much for your vlog ! Also, would you ever do a video about study tips ? :)
Yea! I'll probably do a general overview of how I study someday. But, for tests, this is kinda how I usually study:

Hi!! After watching your videos on Rice, I decided I really liked how it sounded so I came for a visit! I actually saw you walking around campus with a friend and like a sleeping bag or something??? Anyway I wanted to thank you for peaking my interest in Rice, the campus is gorgeous!!!
Dang that's so cool! Feel free to say hi if u see me again!!
lol I guess I'm here a lil late but I just applied to rice as a transfer student and ur vids have really given me solid insight as to what things will be like there if I am accepted, so shoutout to you man and hopefully ill see you there next year
That's amazing! If you see me feel free to say hi!
Such a good vlog! I’m a freshman at Wiess and this is such good/accurate content! Would love to do a video with you some day (though I’m not official youtuber but i love making videos)
Ayy nice to see another rice student! If we ever see each other just say hi!
Great context, my dude
Thank you!!
Very chill vlog 🔥👍
Thanks!
thanx for sharing! i wanna apply rice for my ED school!
Good luck!
Congrats with the successful flip transition at 4:00
thanks!
LOL that KD pencil, same!!
Gotta get on that sat grind
I remember watching this video when I first got accepted in 2019. I can't believe I'm a senior now and you've already graduated. It's a pity I never got to meet you Gerald.
Yea, in retrospect time really flew in college. Have a wonderful senior year!
8:45
Houston at night is beautiful!!
It is indeed!
wooohoo!!
Love your choice of music
thank you!!
My best friend’s son just got accepted to Rice. Thanks for the videos!
That's amazing, congrats!
This video is really nice and it helps me a lot.
And, a somehow specific question, have you waived some of your classes using AP? Do you recommend to do so? Thanks >
Thank you so much! And yes, I waived ap bio, english, calc 1/2, psych, and stats. I will say that, unless you're pursuing premed you should definitely waive classes with ap. It makes your life a lot easier!
Gerald Wang Thank you!
For me, these videos are really motivational. You seem a smart person. Good job! Btw, what google chrome theme are u using? Thank you. :^)
Thanks for the comment montrex! I'm just using the default theme for google chrome.
@@GeraldWang ok. Thank you. But, I was wrong. Better said, why your google chrome is black. I know that, you can get is from their official website with themes and more.
Hi gerald. thanks for all the videos. I have a question for you: What's your most favorite Comp professor(s) and why? thanks!!
Honestly I don't really have a favorite 😅, if I had to pick one then it'd be professor Luay just because he has a nice sense of humor with the students and really does know his stuff.
Have y’all ever heard of rice middle school I actually go there it’s in Houston Texas
I have not actually, but I looked it up and it seems like a great school!
that KD pencil tho
Hi, really nice video!! Do you have any pros/cons about the social life and sports culture at Rice?
Thanks Elyse! As for the social life, I'd say the biggest pro is that rice focuses a lot on building a community. Also there are weekly parties (privates and/or publics) at pretty much every res college so that's always a fun way to end the week. The only con is prob that there isn't too much to do outside of campus (it'll be fun for the first year but gets stale after that). As for the sports culture, I'd say basketball and volleyball is our biggest ones. I'll be totally honest with you and say that not very much people engage with sports at rice. But our football team is getting better so there's a good chance that'll change in the future!
Gerald Wang Awesome! Thank u for replying so quickly.
can you teach me how to change clothes that quickly????
Yea bro I got you
👍🏼
Nice video. Talk to the hand😂
Thanks Pablo!!
Why does the thumbnail say day in my life but the video title say day in the life?
Good catch, let me change that real quick
On a scale of 1-10, 10 being most difficult, how would you rate Rice's curriculum? Are you struggling to maintain A's? Thanks!
It really does depend on which classes and major you're taking. Personally, as a comp sci and cognitive science double major I'd say a 7 in terms of difficulty. I wouldn't say that I've been struggling to maintain A's but it definitely takes work. Of course, there are classes that are much harder than others and classes that are much easier.
@@GeraldWang Thank you so much!
Do you have any tips for the rice alumni interviews?
If you're talking about the in-person interviews, I'd try to be open and outgoing. They'll ask you stuff like:
1. Why do you want to go to Rice?
2. What extracurriculars do you do?
3. Name times where you demonstrated leadership.
4. If you have unlimited resources, how will you change the world?
As long as you know what you're interested in and prepare to answer these questions you should be good!
@@GeraldWang Thanks!
Nice vid! Pro tip: Lose the macbook air, cop a dell xps or literally any other ultra book on the market. Macbooks are not swag....
Haha, I'll look into those!
kd pencil!!! lol i work there! + i'm going to rice next year
Ayy, hope to see you there!
Is it true that it can be so intense and stressful because everyone is so smart.... I kind of just want to go to chill and learn so much
There will probably be times where it'll seem intense and you might get stressed out. But the academic environment is very friendly and not cutthroat in any way. If you need help then there will be people that'll help you and I've personally found learning at rice to be really chill even if the classwork is intense!
CANVAS :o I thought i wud finally escape that once i graduate highschool :c
Haha, some places use blackboard 😉
Ok beast
Bro, is Rice suitable for a person not into drugs or parties? I'm thinking if applying to Rice and dont know if it's the right fit for me as I'm a bit of an introvert
Of course! I know plenty of people here at Rice who aren't into either. No one will judge you otherwise if you aren't into drugs or parties.
@@GeraldWang Thank you!!! Eased a lot of my worries.
Hiii I love your videos! I am in Hugh school, and I am really interested in Rice! Could you tell me how is transferring major/double major like in Rice? Thanks!
Hey chuhan! Anyone can change their major at rice relatively easily. You only need to declare in the second semester of sophomore year. Also, the workload for double majoring depends on which majors you choose. But I do know a decent amount of friends who are double majoring so it definitely isn't rare and very doable.
Sounds good! I am really looking forward to a school where I can explore my paths :)

the school is very pretty i think i am going to apply
Yea the campus is great, good luck!
Hey gerald, does Rice have a business/economics degree?
Because last I checked, there was just economics
Yea rice has an economics major but no business major. If you want to go that route and do 4 years then econ is prob the most popular option. If you want to go to grad school, however, rice offers an MBA. There's also a business minor for people interested in business (which a lot of people here take and really enjoy).
Does Rice have a software engineering course?
I believe Rice has a web dev class as well a couple around oop. However, Rice doesn't have a class specifically dedicated towards software engineering
How is the social life? I noticed that not very many people were walking around while you were recording.
It's a small school but that means you get to make a lot of close connections so I'd say the social life is just whatever you make it to be. It's great if you go out and meet people, but the class size can make it feel a little isolating at times. Also there's usually much more people walking around, I filmed this the day before thanksgiving break so a lot of students had already left for break by then.
Gerald Wang Thanks!
I have a question. Do you believe Rice is socially dead ?
No, not at all! While I will say most people here really care about academics and spend a lot of time studying, there are plenty of social events and for the most part, people are friendly and sociable.
West is Best!!!!!
haha, that's right!
why does the campus overall seem somewhat dead?
Yea, that's because I filmed it a day or two before thanksgiving break so a lot of people left already
@@GeraldWang oh ok thanks for the reply. Im thinking of applying for Rice but the video bummed me out a bit. Great video dont get me wrong but I thought it felt a bit dead. Thanks for reassuring me that its usually more vibrant than this.
@@luisku1407 haha, yea I promise the campus is a lot more lively than what you saw!
Is it true that its one of the best on the medical field in tx?
Yea! Actually if you're talking about schools that are in texas, then I think rice is number 1 for pre-med/medical related majors. Rice is literally next to the texas medical center which is one of the biggest and most prestigious medical regions so getting research there is really good for pre-meds and much easier to get at rice! They also work directly with the baylor college of medicine which is also one of the best med schools in texas.
@@GeraldWang Thank you Gerald! for this information i will sure wont take it for granted! Blessings✌
Also, could you please tell your school to upgrade the website? it's so uninformative and it looks very cliche because it's almost exactly the same design as Duke and Northwestern XD
Haha, I'd also like it if they upgrade it. But if you have any questions then let me know and I'll try answering them for you!
Got rejected...
Sorry to hear...but I'm sure you'll do great at any other uni!
Thanks man.
@@AWIP dont feel bad... I heard of people getting rejected from similar colleges and making it into Ivy Leagues. What were your stats? (Gpa, etc) if you're okay sharing....
For your thumbnail did you get inspiration from john fish.
haha, actually I didn't know about john fish until a couple months ago so it's just a coincidence but they do look pretty similar
ED for fall 20. Way too anxious atm
You got this!
Same my man. Best of luck, we got this!
Green's theorem haha
lmao that was my favorite one
what major are you doing ?
I'm doing a double major in computer science and cognitive science!
@@GeraldWang can you tell if I can get in rice for architecture with full tuition covered ? my family yearly Income is almost 20000$.
@@muneefashinku6575 I can't say for sure but just based on that I'd say you'll be covered by financial aid. Though, again, I'm not totally sure.
@@GeraldWang thank you so much ..
Muneefa Shinku if you make it, everything gets paid for
Rice University serving rice lol 3:20
They pretty much serve a different kind of rice everyday 😅
Still can't believe they made a college for asians.
haha, there are a decent amount of asians but it's pretty diverse still
Do you have any human interaction?
haha yea I didn't film any of it though
