YAAAA GO GERALD
omg thanks lauren!!!
Great blog, thank you for sharing all that information with us. Good luck in your life, school and future career.
Thank you so much!
@@GeraldWang You're very welcome! Rice seems to be perfect choice, my only concern is hurricanes and floods. Were you there when it happened? Was it bad?
@@edytasidorska6345 I was a senior in hs when the hurricane hit. However, from my experience, flooding and hurricanes aren't that much of an issue. Flooding happens occasionally but it's not dangerous or anything (just an annoyance at times) and rice has a good system to protect students from hurricanes if it ever happens.
@@GeraldWang That's great. Thank you very much once again for all your responses.
It's so great to watch your video and get to know more about life at Rice!! Do you have any plans after graduation? Will you pursue a graduate degree or just go to find a job?
Thanks so much! As for post grad plans I hope to own a startup and create a self supporting business. I might also go straight to industry to save up some money before though. Also grad school isn't out of the picture just yet (though prob not happening).
Love these videos so much! I’m 13 years old, and I want to be a pediatrician. My sister has talked about Rice and it sounds like such a great school!
Daaang that's amazing! Good luck with everything!
Gerald Wang thanks!!
Just popping by to say I was here early before you get a ton of subs haha.
loool thanks so much harrison!
Thanks for showing how college semesters are structured. Though is there any aerodynamic related clubs at rice?
Hey simrat! Here's a list of all the rice clubs:
studentcenter.rice.edu/club-listings
As for any related to aerodynamics, there is the rice eclipse club that does aerospace engineering though I don't know how active it is. If ur interested in doing work related to aerodynamics though you can do that through other means like talking to professors who are doing research in that field!
Haha really cool video! -Elina from Hanszen
thanks elina! feel free to say hi if we see each other around rice!
Gerald Wang yas of course!
I’m in! Time to binge.
I took AP Calc last year, multi var at UC berkeley this summer and this year I am taking linear algebra and DiffEQ at a community college.
I’m going to be a math major. Any advice for which classes I should take ?
Wow! looks like you've already got the basic math major requirements down. I'm not a math major so honestly I wouldn't know beyond that. But before school starts you'll be meeting with a bunch of academic advisors who'll definitely help you make a plan based off of what you want to do. The only other advice I can give in regards to classes would be probably to consider some other topics that you're interested in so that you're not just taking math classes every semester (it'll also probably help pad your gpa as well which is good for grad school). But congrats! Hope to see you next year!
Hello! I am a rising senior currently looking to major in Mathematics or Engineering and the more I look at Rice, the more I feel like it's the perfect school for me. Along with being an Eagle Scout and State Games Gold Medalist/National qualifier in my sport I feel like I have plenty to write about myself and why I fit with Rice, but I'm currently lacking in the scores department. I can't seem to get my ACT above a 31, and am just now starting SAT prep realizing the test suites my strengths better. The only B I have received was in Honors Chem (not AP). I have only taken AP courses in Stats, Calc BC, and Physics 1/C Mech. However, I plan to do an Engineering Internship as well as Dual Enroll this year and take Calc 3, Linear Algebra, DiffEQ., and Calc based Stats. Do you have any recommendations on how to show I am an academically strong student?
WildGeffe64 don’t write about that stuff for all of your essays. You can incorporate it into one or maybe two, but you really have to show who you are as a person. Your grades/scores and transcript will speak to who you are academically. I wouldn’t worry abt the B, I had 1 or 2 or them as well😁👍
This video was so helpful for getting a glimpse of what academics at Rice are like!
Are there any AP credits that you don't recommend using (maybe b/c the course at Rice has a lot more content or the next level course is really hard)?
In my opinion, unless you are premed you should take as much ap credit as you can. It'll be really helpful getting intro credit before college so you can get a head start and focus on extracurriculars. But if you feel like you don't have a solid foundation in something like calc bc then it wouldn't be bad to take it in college. If you're premed though then it's better to not use ap credit since med schools would rather see you take all your courses in college.
@@GeraldWang Thanks so much for the advice!
Hi im Nataly :): ! I was wondering if u have any tips of what to write or do to get into rice ?
Hey nataly! For essays, I'd try to write things that not only emphasizes your strong points in the application, but also show that you have leadership skills (since I know rice is big on that). For rice specifically, I'd do an on campus interview with them because there you can show them your personality and qualities directly as opposed to on paper.
What was your coding experience/background like when you interviewed for rice apps?
I had pretty much no coding experience when I interviewed for rice apps. In fact, much of the coding knowledge that I gained by the end of the year came from rice apps! riceapps looks at more than just coding experience during the interview which I think is great for beginners that want to learn.
@@GeraldWang thanks for the info on riceapps and more broadly, your rice-specific videos! they are much appreciated by us 2023 kids
@@anniesanders4307 thanks annie!!
I'm a sophomore and I'm trying to get some extra curricular for universities. Any tips or good ones that colleges look at?
What most colleges want to see is longevity. Find some ec's that you really care about and can put a lot of effort in. The point of ec's isn't really to have a bunch of them so you can show off to colleges, but to help define your identity and push yourself away from other applicants. So there's really no specific ec that does it all, instead, you want to find something that you're passionate about.
Thanks man
Yea bro shuda AP-ed outta math n phys T-T
yea feelsbadman
I love you Judy muah
from your friends, how is math 102???
If you can skip with AP credit then it's recommended. The class is alright, not too bad but isn't too interesting either.
@@GeraldWang I dont have credit :((. Thanks for the info!
do you play the piano??
As a hobby, yes!
@@GeraldWang oh cool!!!
