This is a Motormouth couple car review of the Toyota RAV4 TRD. As people flock to the great outdoors, but don’t need a vehicle with off-road capabilities like a Jeep Wrangler, the RAV4 TRD may just do the trick. The TRD’s best trait is its ability to drive like a regular crossover in the city and on the highway, but it is very capable on the trails. With 8.6 inches of ground clearance, a towing capacity of 3500 pounds, standard AWD and extra drive modes like mud & sand, rock & dirt and snow, it will have no problem soaking up those bumps on a cottage road or even handling deep snow in the winter. The TRD looks a little different from other RAV4 models, it has plastic fender flares, 18” off road alloy wheels, a TRD skid plate and TRD badging. The RAV4 has a 2.5L four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, 203 horsepower and184 lb-ft of torque.JD Power gives the RAV4 TRD an overall score of 82/100 and a quality and reliability score of 81/100. Car Edge states the RAV4 will retain 64% of its value after 5 years. Fuel economy is9.5L/100km, 25 MPG city and 7.4L/100 km, 32 MPG on the highway.

The difference between the ground clearance of this TRD and some of the other RAV4 models is 0.2 inches not 2 inches.
Love when Andrea gets the giggles lol! You guys are great, we appreciate the reviews! Keep it up!
Thanks for watching. Once I get the giggles, I can't stop 😄
I have this vehicle. I would like to see:
1) front tow hooks
2) OEM tow hitch
3) TRD Pro style grille
4) power passenger seat
5) wireless Apple Carplay/Android auto
6) more engine insulation
7) 1" stock lift
Should send this to toyota I totally agree with you on this
I never get tired of watching you two. Andrea giggles and I LAUGH
When Andrea laughs I think I laugh harder 😂 y’all are too cute together. Don’t let those cute happy laughs go away! 🤍🤍🥰
Thank you! 😊
loved the giggling in this video. seriously love the two of them together doing the reviews.
LordDelCasa, I want some of what Andrea is smoking
Agree!
I own a Black 2024 RAV4 TRD Off Road AWD - I love it! My only complaint is the stock 01A Falken tires it came with are useless off road and needed to be replaced with real Falkens 100H that are Severe Snow Rated and have a much deeper tread. It has an Engine Oil Cooler, Transmission Fluid Cooler, and Metal Skid Plate. It is only 1" less ground clearance than a 4Runner! Towing Capacity is 2x over all other RAV4 models. I think this is the best RAV4 model.
This was a great review. Loved the fact that you left the bloopers. It does you great however let’s be honest, the most off road it’ll ever see is driving Sally or Bobby to a 6am hockey practice.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Last few videos Andrea's got the giggles. What's in the coffee hmmm? Say "S" for what Andrea? LOL!
I like that you guys aren’t afraid to bash things that deserve to be bashed. Also,
I see the green too!
Me and my wife test drove quite a few compact crossovers late summer this year. My wife was ready to place an order for a xse hybrid until she seen the TRD on the lot that had just came in, took the TRD home the next day. It looks the best and rides the best out of all the Rav's
No more night life on the videos? I liked the music! 😂
Amazing and entertaining review of the Rav4 TRD! Amazing job Andrea and Zack!
Thank you so much! 🙏
I think Toyota has finally made the RAV4 attractive. At least, on the outside. Personally, I would buy the much less attractive and CV driven Subaru (maybe not in the Wilderness trim). But which would I recommend? ... easily the Toyota. Everyday. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for watching!
Quebec! It’s practical to drive in Quebec with an “off-road” SUV. You don’t have to go out of the roads to hit a bunch of bumps… well done Motormouth ;)
Great review! In this class, and for the off-road purpose, I prefer the Forester.
Andrea’s smiles and positive attitude really add to an already great show.👍
What a nice review team. It's fusebox grey. Future trd drivers ....take it off the road. Andrea never change.
Thank you! 😊
The 2.4 turbo needs to be introduced to the lineup
Andrea's giggle 😂😂😂
I genuinely love this colour - it’s official name is lunar rock but yea, it’s a pale mint green grey and it gives me a safari vibe. Personally I think Subaru Outback AWD is more robust. RAV4 Trail or TRD looks like it’s got a lot of sway n swerve - it looks wobbly whereas Subaru Outback is really planted and low yet has great ground clearance. But Zack’s point about RAV4 automatic transmission is a good one (not a CVT)!
Great review and funny part is Zack can’t get the words right. Poor Andrea, laughing so hard as she driving! 😆
Once the giggles start there's no telling when they will come to an end. LOL!
@@andreaspencer9813 😆
LMAO... Thank you!!! For introducing your Bloopers to your auto reviews... Makes any boring review (Due to number crunching vs the competition) Livelier!!! More fun in a nutshell. Not saying your reviews are boring but you know what I mean. When it comes to car videos, people sometimes, just want to see you thrash the vehicle in question, and not listen to the numbers, dimensions, etc..
Keep up the good work, you guys!!!
Good smiles, good info as well. I opted for the Subaru Outback Outdoor XT for the extra space, quietness and most important, Power.
Such a quiet cabin, I really like it.
Great job and keep on smiling and laughing !!
It is contaigeous and always stay honest!!
Long term that's the key!!
Cheers young Kido and all the best!!
Thank you! 😊
you guys are fun. I'm smiling the whole time while watching 😊
Nice to see Zach joking around!
Keep up the good work. Thanks. Greetings from Sweden.
Thank you so much!
My neighbors have this vehicle....they love it! It does have like a sea foam-ish color.
I'm waiting on the smaller Corolla Cross.
We are driving the Corolla Cross next week 👍
I will waiting to see it...thank you
I have ordered the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Adventure hybrid. Safari green and black seats. Looks cool. Perhaps the word poser is true to a point. It is nice looking vehicle like you say. I don’t think North America are getting this trim level. Unsure. Wish me luck. Get the vehicle in May.
Lanie & John. NZ
Fantastic, congratulations! 🥳
great review once again and I also love the bloopers! Better than mine, which are full of swearing! Only Thing Andrea the regular Gas RAV4 LE/XLE have 8.3 inches ground clearance, Limited/Trail/TRD have 8.5 inches and Hybrid models have 8.1inches
I actually got the 8.6 and 8.4 inches of ground clearance directly from Toyota head office. You are right about the hybrid though, 8.1 inches. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the review. 😊
@@andreaspencer9813 yes correct, however in the video you mentioned that the TRD RAV4 was 2 inches higher than the other ones..think you meant .0.2 inches or so instead...oh well! You guys do a dang good job always! Sorry to nit-pick!
@@NelsonGasparDrives Oh yes, you are right! OMG! Thanks for pointing that out. Thank you! :)
@@andreaspencer9813 your welcome...you both are always on point...you can blame your editor Zack on this one! :)
@@NelsonGasparDrives Haha So many numbers, sometimes it's all a blur.
Thanks for the review Andrea and Zack! I heard that Toyota was dropping the TRD line from North America and moving to GR or Gazoo Racing? Or is that only for their cars?
That’s more for cars. GR will he for performance cars and TRD will remain for the more rugged trucks and SUVS. I know there’s a TRD Camry but I think the transition to Gazoo has begun
43k….. 10k more than my new 2021 Crosstrek Outdoor and my isn’t as noisy…love the reviews , laughter is the best medicine
Purchased in August. The TRD is mostly styling but once deciding I wanted one of the top trim levels in the range for feature content the TRD styling was by far my favourite.
As per the suggested competition I found the Subaru ugly although that’s subjective, the Ford several inches shorter, the Cherokee is dated and due a major redesign.
My only complaint of the Rav is it does sound truly awful under acceleration, at speed however the cabin is a nice place to be.
I wanted to experience historical Toyota reliability and I must say the material quality looks and feels high end, with that said seeing as the TRD is mostly a styling gimmick shoppers should also have a close look at the new Rouge and Tucson. Both are fresh redesigns with a lot of good features and tech
You guys are having too much fun. Love it!
Thank you! Beats working for a living lol!
Omg soo good video you are the best guys Andrea make me laugh so much . Thanks you make my day guys ❤️
Wow, thank you so much! 🙏 Glad you liked it.
@@andreaspencer9813 ❤️🥰
I’m with Andrea
I too am seeing green
FYI, the color of the Toyota RAV4 y'all reviewed is Lunar Rock. And yes, there is a slight hint of green in the tint. Often when searching for gray RAV4's, this color comes up because the person listing it must have seen it as only gray.
For those of us that want a nice suv but also do some gravel roads this makes good sense .
so much fun !!! thanks for including behind the scenes shoots :)
Nice to see you now chose a more humble neighbourhood in Vancouver to drive in for us commoners.
This is Toronto not Vancouver, we mentioned that
Haha… I have to put bars on my windows in my neighborhood ..anywhere else is too bougie for me
i have one.its called lunar rock.a light green.have had a lot of say they like the color.
The TRD and Adventure come with a dynamic AWD system and have a factory lift. That plays a roll in the "zero mechanical advantage" you answered with.
The TRD has no mechanical advantage over the Adventure/Trail already offered.
@@Motormouth... All 3 of those trims have the dynamic awd system and slight lifts but you said the trd wasn't at a mechanical advantage over the regular rav4s. Also we should note the rim and tire being more friendly on the trd vs the adventure and regular trims. 17s would be perfect but the trd 18s are much better than the adventure 19 inch rims with much less tire.
Great work
Thank you! 😊
Fun review of a fun car.The RAV4 has certainly improved over the years. Keep pressing the S button 😁
I like the outtakes you included.
Both of you are really funny.
When I think of TRD in Toyota truck, I usually associate with Tacoma's TRD Pro which is more popular than base SR5 in Vancouver. RAV4 is better off with Trail in 2.5 trim. But it still too noisy for its own good. Otherwise, RAV4 hybrid is the way to go.
love the review of the TRD package. Will be nice down here in New Brunswick as some places get a lot of snow.
Zach, you are hilarious! Well done, love the video
Hello to you both,
Great review and great laughs !!
Great review, but I'm waiting for the Corolla Cross LE AWD, a better looking vehicle and the size that we want.
Thank you! BTW we are heading to Quebec to drive the Corolla Cross next week. Stay tuned.
Great review.
I like the color, I really like the looks, If I did not have a Lexus NX300 already I would consider one.
That's Ellesmere road in Scarborough!
Right near Toyota Canada, good eye...
Outback wilderness \m/
Love when she looks at the camera ! So fine !!!
You two have great chemistry and do a good job of keeping it light. Regarding this RAV, the wheels are too small!!
Thank you very much!
@@andreaspencer9813 how much better is the noise/vibration/harshness with the hybrid version? Would you get that over the TRD?
@@sammyjammy6647 I would definitely get the hybrid, it is quieter than the gas model and the fuel economy is amazing.
@@andreaspencer9813 Thank you for your quick reply. Love you Andrea!
@@sammyjammy6647 Thank you, it's my pleasure 😊
The RAV has always been a great vehicle. I’ve known a few people to get 300,000 kms plus on their Rav.
I really preferred the old ‘truck’ looking Rav with the rear wheel carrier
Now they just look like every other CUV on the road
Just more reliable
To be fair the newest ones do look truckish from the front
The TRD is screaming for a small supercharger! To justify the TRD badge and styling!
Andrea is love 💚
Kia just revealed the all new Sportage is a bloody gorgeous
Yeah, looks a lot more appealing than this RAV4 and will probably have pretty good NVH, unlike the RAV4.
And; ….. it’s still a Kia!
@@mattspeer01 I drive a 2022 Hyundai Tucson plug in hybrid and I love it
@@chriscarbaugh3936 The only people that still use the "it's still a Kia" line in 2021 are completely ignorant and stuck in the year 2000 when Kias actually did suck. Kia's star has been rising rapidly and their lineup is far more appealing than Toyota's at this point, plus their reliability is just as good. Toyota is great, but they are stagnant.
Kia=CVT that won't last. Toyota =8 speed Aisin transmission which will last 600k minimum
Hi please do review for 2023!thanks😊
Y’all cute. Nice vid thank you
Love the colour!
Screams: “We want to compete with the Bronco Sport, but we’re too cheap to tool up another body style”
I’d rather have this rugged rav4 look than a “bronco-esque” body on an escape chassis. And the rav will be 10 times more reliable and on the road for 5 times longer than what a bronco sport will be.
Andrea's arms indicate she's into fitness. Can she do a vlog style vid where it shows her daily life and gym time?
Not classy. Leave the nice lady be!
The “noisy cabin” point keeps getting made. I know it’s a rock solid vehicle in terms of reliability and resale. But, I can’t deal with a noisy cabin in a 2022 car.
Great video as usual but man in my opinion that vehicle (not you guys the vehicle) is UGLY and so is the interior which looks cheap.
Well, Zack didn't mention Turd for TRD this time..
C'mom guys, this is a poor review of a great all around suv. This car comes now with a skid plate underneath, the JBL premium sound system is amazing. The Car is more than just trd badges. If you look underneath you would've seen the special shocks that makes this car handle great on road and off road. The double exhaust on this thing is premium. also Falken made special tires for this model. Do a little more research on cars, unless you're doing GM products then yeah I agree with you, GM just put badges on cars. Not Toyota.
I just want to remind you that beauty is in the eye of the beholder! If you think a vehicle is butt ugly, remember, it’s your opinion! Opinions are like a_ s h_ _ _ _, everyone has one! Overall, I appreciate your reviews, but just actual facts!
When are they going to remove controls from doors and put them inside
Should of stuck the TRD Pro Tacoma wheels on it. Those 18’s makes it look too civilized
When reviewing regular cars , the background is middle class neighborhood.
When reviewing luxury cars (audi/Mercedes etc) the background changed to upper class neighborhood
We were in Toronto so we drove where we were. Vancouver is much prettier
Is the suspension softer than regular? Would y’all prefer the hybrid or the TRD?
TRD suspension is the best we find with the ones we drove and that's what we bought
The Licence Plate is 69 hahaha
Someone is a fan of Omega.
Oh yeah
No TRD hybrid?
Those tiny brake lights kill so many Toyotas for me as well as using super dated now incandescent lights.
Not sure I could live with the engine noise while accelerating.
At last front grill changed to a normal one from ugly big V.
Enthusiasts like the noise apparently.
Hey Beautiful Couple, would like to meet you once, I am from Toronto
The poor NVH in this thing is a huge failure on Toyota's part. Even the most basic new cars these days have pretty decent NVH, but Toyota seems to have thrown that out the window with the RAV4 for whatever reason. No matter how good the rest of the car is, I would never buy a car with this much road noise in the year 2021.
@@naveenthemachine I agree the 3.5 is more refined, but it's not just the engine noise that's an issue in the RAV4. There is also a lot of road and wind noise that penetrates the RAV4's cabin, as if they didn't use any sound deadening materials at all.
@@naveenthemachine I don’t know, honestly. A lot of cars use laminated or double/triple pane glass on their highest trim levels. I think I read that the RAV4 Prime may have laminated glass but not the other versions of the RAV4.
Rav4 Turd lol
I see mint
The youtubers new thing is to beg for 'likes' over 'subs'. Perhaps the put it in 'S' for subscribe is in need of a update. What shtick will zack and drea come up with to encourage likes? stay tuned to find out!
No more Toyota in my garage , after 3 leases, i m done with them , I actually can stand their arrogance !!!
Well don't buy a ford because they are king of arrogance without the reliability. I pick good build quality and decent looks that's all that matters to me.
Toyota can be arrogant because they’ve been making the best cars on the road for decades now? I’d love to hear what you decided to go with instead of a Toyota. If it’s anything but a Honda or a Mazda I’d say you’re a fool.
The Toyota is still ultra reliable and resale is sky-high, but the new Kia Sportage is more attractive and a great value
I do not like the black wheels... Grey is better looking.
I can't stand the motor in this thing. You slam it and there's a ton of noise and no action. Just traded in my standard '19 Trail for an Audi SQ5 and could not be happier!
TRD is short for Turd. Toyota Rav4 Turd.
So thats what u call a Toyota Fortuner in Canada..hmmmm
It looks so good but that engine is a complete turn off
The TRD rav4 is no more Is capable than any other AWD version
Actually I will say a couple things. The Trd Does have a skid plate(s)? From the factory and I believe only the TRD and adventure are the only ones that have the torque vectoring awd
@@sammyjammy6647 No I think they all have torque vectoring if they have all wheel drive I have an LE and it definitely has it
@@sammyjammy6647 The torque vectoring is almost like having a locker
Regular gas RAV4 AWD is Dynamic Torque ‘Control’ (traditional front to rear slip & grip system) with multi-terrain select. The gas Adventure/Trail/TRD & Limited AWD are more advanced dual-clutch, Dynamic Torque ‘vectoring’ system, transferring power front to back as well as left or right rear wheels. Videos on CZcams show regular RAV4 AWDs where 3 out of 4 wheels are placed on rollers, which spin repeatedly but unable to hop off the rollers. The Dynamic Torque Vectoring models spin briefly and then are able to drive off the rollers.
LIKE
Wow, what a rip off.
This is nothing more than a Marketing gimmick from Toyota, just the the Corolla "Apex" trim. You basically just get visual improvements, but it costs you $$$.
I would stick to the regular trims, or better yet... go for the Hyrbid version.
@@naveenthemachine It offers the same torque vectoring that the Trail trim offers, which is the base trim of this TRD version. You don't need to get this TRD version to have torque vectoring.
@@naveenthemachine Who said it gets worse?
@@naveenthemachine I meant in the Rav4, sorry. I thought you were taking about the Rav4, no the Corolla Apex.
@@naveenthemachine It actually rides the best
TV AWD, lifted, all terrain tires, special suspension for off-road. These are ALL things people want when they actually love off road... it's not a marketing gimmick
That infotainment just looks so dated
@@naveenthemachine maybe it just needs a redesign to modernize it and keep some of those buttons
Poser. TRD Offroad no tow hooks. C'mon Toyota. Just get a nice Rav4 hybrid the basic one and save a ton of money.
TRD=turd?
Oh stop!😮
