Fun Fact: that V. Smile Shrek game has THREE PLAGIARIZED ZELDA SONGS, all from Ocarina of Time:
Lost Woods is used later in the campaign, and the Kokiri Forest and shop themes are used in two of the minigames.

@@ROBDEWAND Apple ruined earphones, too. Now, everyone only makes either wireless ear buds, which cost more and are probably really easy to drop, or those "inner ear" abominations, which can give you ear infections, or else they're those awkward and uncomfortable looking sports clip ones. Or if you want over-the-ear headphones, everything's a massive Beats by Dr. Dre knockoff. I had to get my last pair of earphones from CVS because they were the only ones who had any I was comfortable with.

Console: takes 3 batteries
Peter: buys 2 batteries
Also peter: doesn't wanna admit we are on day 3
I think it's possible the 2 batteries he showed us were simply overlooked as when he had looked at them when going through batteries on day one but they said C-2 (or something) so he thought they were different types of batteries thus on day 2 after getting the C batteries or double checking he likely came to the realization that they'd been in his face all along albeit only 2 out of the 3 he needed. But if this line of thinking is correct it's possible he had more than one pack of C-2 batteries and he was just showing us one out of simplicity.

The Leap Frog Rocket Twist thing looks genuinely well done and interesting.
As much as I played certain leapster games long after they were able to teach me anything (there was an amazing Thomas the Tank Engine game that was really fun to progress through) I kinda agree with the opening monologue's description of educational games. Ironically enough the most educational "games" I've ever played were the Minecraft mods Minechem and TerraFirmaCraft, the former got me to memorize a good chunk of the periodic table while the latter got me to remember the names of a lot of different minerals. Both of them together got me really interested in metallurgy, chemistry, etc. I think there's more value in a game that can _inspire_ kids to go into a certain field than to necessarily teach them all about that field with total realism. The best way to educate kids is to build a game where learning more about that subject naturally helps them to develop the skills needed to beat the game.
Although granted then there's Kerbal Space Program and I can never manage to rendezvous rockets no matter how hard I try
Minecraft is also really good for learning new languages. I'm trying to learn Spanish and I play the game in Spanish. It's good for vocabulary.

the vsmile took batteries mainly so it could be used with an in-car entertainment system; back in that time most cars didn't have a 110v outlet so batteries were the only option
why would you put a whole ass console in your car
@@golldshi if ur going on a road trip in 2006 with your kids you would buy a system that came with basically two small monitors/screens that were strapped to the back of the front seat headrests, basic ones were just a display with A/V ports so you had to supply your own system (like the V-smile) but some of the fancier ones had built in DVD players. there was no way in hell you’d give your kid a phone or god forbid a laptop so this was the only way to shut them up while you drove. of course this concept went in the shitter immediately after the release of the ipod touch
@@Jakobly damn why not just bring a Gameboy or somethin

This is the first time I've seen any of these consoles, and the Leapfrog Twist is SO GOOD? Incredibly engaging design, intuitive controls, large variety of built-in games and apps with the availability to add more. Plus, portability! Definitely the best of the bunch.
Same, even as a tween, I still really want that because of the creativity and the gimmicks and all those bells and whistles.

the little mermaid was one of the games i owned along with scooby doo (my fave), "wolverine and friends" and winny the pooh (my other fave)!

Edit: I forgot that I also had cars, and SpongeBob.
I think the game you’re talking about is Alphabet Park Adventure. I had the original release but in the late 2000’s there was a revision of the game that changed the character designs to make them less unsettling.
@@Y0Y0Evan I think I had the original because I remember it being creepy.

I love how basically all of the comments are "Wow I got so much nostalgia" and "Oh my God so many memories". I'm not saying no to yall though. I had a VSmile when I was little and absolutely loved it. A while back I went down a rabbit hole of watching a bunch of longplays of VSmile games I had. It was an amazing experience.
As a V. Smile (and leap frog) collector (because I have brain damage and am stuck in the past please send help to me in 2004) I enjoyed this so much. Also sometimes if the cartridges are dirty it’ll cause the system to crash, and the cartridges are most likely dirty because kids.
This is a very random question, but do you know of a V. smile game where the player was able to choose their character from a bunch of different animals (I think a panda and/or a dog were included), and the game was kind of RPG-esque with different tasks/quests you could do? I think there was even a bedroom that you could decorate. I swear that this game exists, and that it was my favorite when I was a kid, but for the life of me I can't remember the name or find it ANYWHERE, lol.

It seems really counter intuitive that children are expected to put up with low latency input and imprecise controls, when you want them be be aware of their own reflexes and hand eye coordination.
Oh.. and the opposite of nostalgia is fear of the future.
No way, I took one look at the v smile and it brought back so many memories. Thinking back on it, these games were more hilarious then they were educational.

The Leapster is actually kind of cute and made me smile. When you see a lot of cynical stuff aimed at kids, something that seems actually considerate towards them goes a long way.
Leapfrog has always been a pretty wholesome company. I had the original leapfrog which was just an interactive reading and writing book. Crazy to look them up and see that they're making video games now! Especially one that's still helping kids learn fine moter skills while learning :D!
Ok no joke, I remember me and my older brother had this console. Everytime I see this console, my brain explodes of how nostalgic it is to me.
2:44 The V-smile was on of my favorite game consoles when I was a kid, and toddler. I use to play the toy story game on it! So many memories!
The RockIt Twist looks like one of those "How grandma sees the Xbox controller", but real, and tiny.
I personally had a purple leap pad with one game on it: the princess game, it had two stories ( Cinderella and beauty and the beast) and hearing the leap frog theme was amazingly nostalgic
Not gonna lie that last console really seemed quite fantastic at what it aims to be, it has a lot of tactile inputs that correspond to the games, it has a lot of small games and software and it's an all in one package. For smaller kids that would be perfect to play with as they can have games, be somewhat creative and it has many inputs to play with.
