This video just saved my life! My baby is 2 months old and this is the first week…Started trying potty as soon as we got home and it just wasn’t working, even tried crate training but I don’t like her to be confined. Came to CZcams and searched, watched your video last night and today she is going to the training pad all on her own. I watched her like a hawk and took her the pad the first 2 times this morning and gave treats and praise. By the third time she just going to her pad without us saying a word. Not a single accident today!!!
So glad we were able to help! Continue at it and keep a eye on her!
Edit update!: I left out a very important tip! Do you notice sometimes when you are busy either washing the dishes...reading a book or or paying the bills...and your pup suddenly potty out of random areas? Simply put it! When this happens they are looking for your attention! They will pee to get your attention...If your pup pees and poop on their pee pad and you notice once you are not occupied with him/her ..she simply trying to get your attention to play with them! Make sure to let them know or talk to them while you are in the middle of doing something

Here is my personal advice for personal Potty Training for indoors for puppies between 8 to 16 weeks old ..for those where going outdoors maybe inconvenient rather its-( climate weather conditions...you work full-time...you live in a high rise apartment..being a elder where walking is not convenient..where going in out is out of the question...)This video will shed some light on how to potty train your pup inside...Mikki is dual trained indoor and outdoor we take her outside when weather cooperates.....this maybe convenient for those who really need indoor potty....some may not agree to indoor potty training but that's ok! Potty training was difficult with this breed. I've never had to use puppy pads with other dog breeds. Then he started chewing up and playing with the puppy pads lol.
The positive reinforcement with treats worked with him. He now barks to let us know that he needs to go outside. He never learned how to use the pads. This is an awesome video though!

Like how you point out the things to consider like carpet/rug/space limiting...and yes keep repeating potty words like “boo-boo” WHILE they go potty is the must so that they’ll memorize it. Good job princess Mikki!!! 🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️

Hey Vik and Mikki! We can imagine probably the least fun thing to deal with a puppy is the potty training. We are glad you found a good method that works for you. Too adorable that she loves her little crate, and doesn't cry or bark to get out. Interesting how you used a special word that she knows to go to the bathroom on command. She loves those beef treats you give her. Good thing you have those puppy gates to limit the space she can use the bathroom. Makes sense that you had to remove those rugs, so she didn't get confused between the pee pads, and the rugs. Great video and glad to see Mikki is doing well!! Love you guys to the moon! :)

Great that you found a technique that works so well for Mikki. She's so well behaved and listens to you perfectly! We had to cover our carpets with lino for a few months just in case of accidents.

I just added a new Shih Tzu to our family. First pet and , yes, he is stubborn 😂😂, yet he knows to go to the pee pad. This video is helpful and the carpet and limiting his space so I'm listening. I have to teach him crating as well. Very helpful!
Thanks for the vid. I have been watching a lot of potty training vids and this is the first one that really shows how to do it. I have a Malshi that is 14 weeks old and was losing hope. However after watching this my little guy isn't doing so bad, as he was crate trained and pad trained (mostly) at 10 weeks. I get frustrated by not always knowing when he has to go. But I guess it is just more patience and working with him. Again thanks.

We were retired when we got him and we every minute of the day to train him .

Hi we got our 9 week old shih tzu puppy 1 week ago and I have watched this video...it has helped us out so much thankyou so much ..ollie is now using his puppy pads at first was having accidents because he was having to go far to find his pads but after following what you do it's going great 💞 we use the word go pee pee xx

Nice video! I had my sophie for 10 years (passed 8/30/2021, stroke) she was potty trained by following my other older dog, Lily (Min-Pin). funny how the shih tzu would follow Lily. That was kind of easy. I'm getting a new puppy 10/28/2021 and hope Lily will take the assignment again... lol Sophie loved to sleep in our bed, do you leave yours in the crate every night? I want to hug Mikki, she is so fluffy cute. Thank you for sharing this. Your potty training tips are very helpful and many new dog guardians will for sure find benefit from them. Truth be told, I got lucky with some of my pets, Princess (shih tzu) included. One day, while she was still several months old, I noticed that there was neither pee nor poo near her cage until I put her on a leash and took her out for a stroll in the neighbourhood. From then onwards, she pees and poos outside the house. In case, she couldn't hold it any longer due to stomach upset or a full bladder, she calls attention by barking incessantly or scratching my arms or legs in case I am still asleep. Anyhow, stay cute, healthy, and obedient baby Mikki. Lots of love to you from Princess and I!
GOD bless you for your love to your dog. But out of curiosity, if she's home alone and she has to go and couldn't hold it and there is an accident, I hope you don't punish her for that. Unless, hopefully, she's never been home alone and always has company 😊🐶😘
@@mervatibrahim8115 Thank you for your concern. I can never punish her for that if ever, as with my other pet dogs. The house is always lively and well-occupied - our family is big not to mention that Princess has company in my six other pet dogs. :)
That's very nice to know Simone! Our dear mikki actually pottys outdoor everyday as well! As long as weather cooperates due to mikki being spayed and lot of her tummy area has exposed skin..we tempoary out her back potty indoor until she up and running again ..rest assure this is a potty train tutorial...mikki doesn't potty indoors full time lol!!! It took me about 2 months to be 100% fully train without an accident. Yes, I'm too dual trained indoor and outdoor also to make it easier for my pawrents work schedules. This way I do not have to hold in and wait for them. If I really have to go in between the walk I will have that options to do indoor in a specific area. Also when the weather is very bad outside, for safety reasons, I can easily take care of my business indoor instead. 🐾Friends, have a great weekend and stay safe😛

You explained everything so nicely... Would be really helpful for new pet parents. ... I had a lab shepherd (cross of german Shepherd n lab)... We never really potty trained him... He learnt everthing very fast all by himself... We were amazed how he learnt so quickly... We never gave him any treats or anything to train him... He was a very obedient dog... But again every dog is unique and all breeds are different n special...

Oh man, Potty training fun. Wish I had this video when I first got a dog. We ended up putting a bell to the back door and the Pugs would just ring the bell when they needed to go outside. I'm going to have to tell my wife I have to go boo boo 😂 Now that is magic. Never heard of using a word for it.

Great video... when we got Miley we had 2 sections of the house with pads she favored one spot and that's where she still goes..our word is pee pee..she was pretty much trained in bout 2 weeks..we haven't accomplished going out side yet.. but she is pretty smart I don't think she will be to hard to train.. she walks on a leash pretty good just not using restroom outside yet..!!

OMG, Micky you are a star. I did potty training with my Shih Tzu boy not to potty or pee pee indoors. Which he learnt too well that he wouldn't do potty or pee indoors even for couple of days. I had a bad fall last year and I couldn't walk. I live independently so i was stuck. I did try with him but no response. I searched for emergency dog walker. Luckily ive found one. He is a smart boy and not too sturbon. So when going for a quich job, i have chosen his fevrouite red collar and normal long walks he wears harness. It took me a week but for indoor was a tough. Fortunately he done it in the end👍🥳🥳🥳🥳

Puppy Gate or Baby gate is a must. We just took ours down last weekend. When we do road trips, I feel like our family has the same size small bladder as a family 😂. Are you going to use the potty pad long term or just as a puppy? Yea, we had to throw away a few rugs because we didn't listen to Vic. This is so useful for pet owners!!!
We usually take mikki out everyday! Once in the morning afternoon and night during all of summer and fall..as weather gets colder...plus she was recently spayed..we decided Temporary for now to potty indoors..if weather cooperates she be back outside doing her work...we will still put the pads indoors if needed

That's a good tip to limit space! He was peeing all around my sister's house. He was still a puppy. It was was real set back, and I didn't realize why. I had to shampoo three rugs!

In the Philippines and Africa the dog just hung outside and came back when he needed to. At first I thought the crate wasn't great for the dog but when did research and they said that dogs like it because it is like living it in small caves and they feel comfortable in their home. You are right, dogs don't like to pee or poop in their sleeping area. For us it was the whole crate, so I'm surprised they have a potty training. Really cool to see how others do it.
Country dogs def have a way of life like no other!! A good life! I love to see how other countries do it in person

Sometimes for us we live in a cold climate where snow and extreme cold artic air will be a issue..having mikki dual potty trained is very important in these situations when weather does not cooperate...thank you for being here for mikki! OMG....... just found your video and you have a very CUTE shih tzu. I have a 6 months old shih tzu and guess what ???? he still NOT potty trained even though we have pee pad available at the same spot. Sometimes he will pee there and MOST of the time, he pee and poop at random spot. I don't know what to do anymore :-( How long did you train yours ? and do you think using indoor grass instead of pee pad works better ?? Please Help !
Thank you for sharing. I'm getting 2 Shih Tzu puppies in couple weeks. I was told that I should not let them go potty on the pads because they may mistake my couch blanket for the pad. What are your thoughts on that?
Then you remove the couch blankets..the rugs...anything the resembles a pad....keep the pads there....once your pup gets the idea where to potty...you can put your blankets and rugs back in place

My new puppy was sleeping through the night in his crate without making a sound. One night he started whining at 1 o’clock in the morning. Finally I let him out and he immediately had runny poop on his P pad. I guess I’m wondering how to time bedtime correctly
