      +Edward Hippisley-Cox I am not speaking on behalf of anyone other than myself when I say this, but I fully expect the Vive to cost more than the Oculus Rift. So if your standards for getting the price "right" are that it costs less than $600, I expect you'll be disappointed.

    Still awaiting for a Valve Time review of Portal Stories: Mel, although since it's been two/three months since it's release I guess it either won't happen or won't be around for a long while.
    *cough* Not as long as "Half-Life 3's" development. *cough*

    I don't get how these motion controllers are good for gaming. There are almost no buttons on this, so they wont be compatible with most games. Are they even made with gaming in mind? I could see that they would be great for 3D modeling though.

    • @Omnomnick
      @Omnomnick Před 8 lety +4

      +PoweredByFlow The Vive wands and Oculus Touch controllers are not designed for traditional games. VR games should be successful by breaking away from normal gaming into a new off-shoot. Simply porting older games over to VR is an awful idea - designing them to specifically use the technology is the way forwards.

    • @Omnomnick
      @Omnomnick Před 8 lety

      +PoweredByFlow Not to mention "traditional" controllers like the one for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, or even the Steam Controller can also be used. It's totally dependent on games and their developers.

    • @PoweredByFlow
      @PoweredByFlow Před 8 lety

      Alright, fair enough. But i'm still sceptical about this. So games have to be specifically developed with these controllers in mind, that just means we wont see any big publishers picking up on them and will be limited to just indie developers. The motion controllers by Oculus don't look much better than the Vive ones too in my opinion, the STEM System controllers seem still to be the best ones so far.

      @ivanalantiev2397 Před 8 lety

      +PoweredByFlow you'll be surprised, but 3d modeling in general requires more buttons than gaming in general.

    will half life 3 ever be a thing?

    • @ivanalantiev2397
      @ivanalantiev2397 Před 8 lety +2

      +Roemaro Phillips there is no point to ask such questions and here's why. There are no people who are allowed to answer\want to answer and have appropriate information about the subject(such as Valve employees, retired Valve employees, Gabe Newell, etc). We will know only when Valve LET us know. That's all.
      Is it good? Is it bad? It is not a part of the question. If you ask me - I'd say there is no concrete answer. Since Valve finished and released Half-Life 2: Episode 2 they've changed their mind a lot about how it's gonna work. As we can know from Gabe's answers about HL and Valve's games in general - they've figured out that copy-pasting isn't working. So they rather will create games based on new technologies, then just keep doing what they were doing in Episodes. This is the way Valve works. So I can guess what they want to do in general - they want to drop a bomb with HL3(and VR as well probably as a part of it ) as it was with HL2. And this is the point where we're coming to Valve's keeping silence about HL to make even greater effect.
      I also believe that there are more reasons behind such way of interacting with their customers, HL fans and public in general. One of them probably is the fact that Valve doesn't want to break any promises. They just don't want to be in situation where they've promised something and after release that 'something' doesn't meet expectations. I believe that the 'bomb's effect' and 'we don't want to break any promises' leads us to the reality of things.

      +Roemaro Phillips At this point in time, since Half-Life 3 is supposed to be the final Half-Life game with that IP, and since Laidlaw was known as the main writer for this game series... it either means the game is cancelled or that Valve no longer needs him (i.e. the story is finished and game is in progress).
      Since the leaked developer folder structure and Source 2 database nicknames indicate it is more likely the latter.

    • @ivanalantiev2397
      @ivanalantiev2397 Před 8 lety +1

      +JαmëŽǎɏe actually this is a very good point. We know that Valve's games are based on creating gameplay first and only after writing a story. So as you said Laidlaw's retiring could means probably only two things: HL3 is on the stage, when all gameplay, mechanics, levels and stuff already created. So the game is somewhere around home stretch. And since we saw developer's folder with HL3 ported on Source 2 I'd rather believe that HL3 will become a thing soon, then never(what is the second probable variant).
