    Reviews:
The film "Penn of Pennsylvania" is not a crowd pleaser and it's the sort of movie few would enjoy. However, as a retired history teacher, I loved how it actually captured his life much better than the average film of the day. Perfect? Nah...but worth seeing.
This biopic is about William Penn and follows him from his conversion to his founding Pennsylvania and the death of his wife. It's a bit idealized and at times seems a tad stagy, but it did stick reasonably close to the facts. In particular, I thought the court case was ridiculous and never happened...and I researched and found that the judges DID refuse to accept the jury's verdict AND did imprison them for their decision! Crazy...but true.
Overall, a good look at who William Penn was...but because it is close to the facts, it's also not among the more exciting films you can watch...and I can live with that.

William Penn founded Pennsylvania, and wrote its constitution, which later became the American Constitution. I am descended from one of the Founding Fathers, the Rev Thomas Blossom who sailed to America in 1621 on the Mayflower 2. This movie is about the Quakers in England. The Quakers were very important in the Founding of The United States of America 🇺🇸.

How blessed that our state was founded by a Quaker. This is a great reference to explain our founding documents & beliefs.

I’ve always thought it was interesting that the actual Mason-Dixon Line is really the boundary lines of Pennsylvania. Charles ll sent the two surveyors, Mason & Dixon to survey the land for William Penn that repaid the debt that he owed Penn’s late father.

The Penn family were local squires, lords of the manor, in Sussex, England. I note that very few biographies or biopics of Penn show any reference to this fact. I would imagine that it will have been an influencing factor in both his later religious affairs and his politics. As the Lord of the Manor the family (head of) was also in possession of the parish living, which meant that he had the right to appoint a vicar or rector to the parish.
William Penn was an active promoter of the Quaker denomination and he established meeting houses in many villages and towns in Sussex. It is unclear to me how you can be an active Quaker, with its ideals of radicalism and egalitarianism, and yet remain a patron of an Anglican parish which was neither - but it seems that he did!
