The New Icelandic Lava Road After 2 Eruptions - Thermal Drone View and More

  • I did this thermal scan with a few before and after videos to show you the hot lava road that got covered twice with tongues of lava coming from the eruption in February and April. I decided to have a little fun with the editing since iv'e been doing so many videos that i really didn't want to do since November. This is a natural disaster and we might just as well get the third doze of lava over the road tomorrow, but so be it, we will just fix it again so this video is simply symbolic of Icelandic stubbornness, or the famous Icelandic phrase, "Þetta reddast" meaning, it' will be fine.

I guess it's just a basic dirt road plus perhaps some asphalt this far. It's only a quick and temporary solution but who knows where the lava will end up next? Plus it will be a while before *that* road is going to freeze over. When you need to water on the road to keep it from getting too hot, there's a lot of heat stored down there!

The icelandic lava has its sides, good and bad. The good one is that you don't have to worry much about how to construct a solid base to put the road on. Once you have cleared the rubble from the area, the base is there - solid as a rock.

I cannot imagine dealing with volcanos on a regular basis but especially driving over lava - especially HOT 🥵 lava. I understand cooled lava can punch through and to even think what that would be like … well .. I don’t want to. I think about the man who volunteered in one of the earlier eruptions and fell into the depths of the open earth. Breaks my heart. Actually for everyone who has also been separated from their homes and friends and families most likely. A different breaking of the heart than death. But still painful to think.

Great to see how hot that road over the lava really is. I'm sure that amount of water was really, really going to cool it off a lot. ;) Thanks Gylfi!

Amazing. Does the heat effect your tyres?is the water to help harden/ cool the lava?
