I remember we (Haitians) used to get into fights back in the 80s because we used to tell AAs that they too were from Africa. Back then, they saw that as an insult. Thank God many AAs have grown the hell up since then. I think majority of them now get it.

k-the-i??? It is inaccurate, since different islands had different cultural influences when it comes to their food. For example,Martinique’s food resembles Haitian food because of the shared French and African heritage, but it is different, because they have a strong East Indian influence. They cook with curry a lot, which is not customary in Haiti. In the end, If it is seasoned differently it is not the same, it does not taste the same.

For those who said Haitians are not Africains. I want to tell you that we grow up with our parents telling us who we are! and where we are coming from " Africa" . Theres few europeans roots most Haitians are not mixed! In Haiti theres specific area where the mixed lived like the one mixed with french and polonese are more in "Fond des blancs". area. There's also lebanon and syrian they live more around "port-au-prince", "les Cayes" And "Pétionville" ..... theres German too. But the mixed people are a small pourcentage of the population .Haitians are very proud to be African! Only some ignorants one are not.But we are very aware of where of who we are. Especially that we know that Toussaint was from Benin ... he arrived here at very young age.most of us are from Benin, Togo and other west African country. So yes we are and we embrace it thank you!

Roni’s Vibez maybe the snacks are somewhat similar, but the food definitely is not the same. People from subsaharan countries often feel that the food is the same because they use similar ingredients such as plantain for example, but the food is not cooked or seasoned the same way and does not taste the same. Haitian food is much more similar to Dominican and Cuban food than it is from African countries although there is probably an African influence. Cassava was staple food for the native American tribes of the Island way before Europeans and Africans arrived. In fact, the natives of the island, from the Arawak family, the tainos ate a lot of root vegetables such as yucca,
