10-year anniversary of the abduction of Nigerian schoolgirls by Boko Haram
With this year marking the 10-year anniversary of the tragic mass abduction of Nigerian schoolgirls by Boko Haram on April 14, 2014, the world is reminded of the events that sparked the #BringBackOurGirls campaign.
Though global attention eventually waned, over 80 girls remain missing. Patience Bulus is one of the young girls who managed to escape, and is now studying in the U.S. She talks to Isha Sesay CEO of Areya Media, OkayAfrica’s parent company, who wrote the book, Beneath the Tamarind Tree, about the kidnapping and its impact.

Khoisan are one of the purest people and the oldest lines in all humanity.
But she came from the khoisan people, so who are they ?
We Americans are so entitled that we get offended for other people, we judge others in other’s countries for their culture. In an Iraq video footage, I heard American Soldiers calling Iraqis as invaders and foreigners. That was hilarious
🎯💯👌🏿
They’re mad because they want her to be BLACK
The Koi koi /kuwsian people were designated as Colored because western european explorers compared them to other tribes in Africa. They said the kuesian people were lighter in complexisn and had keen features, and noted to not look like the other african people
Americans, give us a break. Yoh !
She embraces her African and Asian culture. Mauritians are decendants African- Asian.
Not all coloureds are descendents of Khoisan some are descendents of south Asians that came in this country as slaves of the dutch east india company.
I think we have to ask where did the term colored originate in the description of this group of South African people? Who named them that? Just curious I will do my research while I think I already know the answers.
Everyone will have the Khoisan gene ,as they are the first homo sapien sapien. Coloured is not a criteria in DNA testing.. She is black with a jhb coloured culture. I am black with a European culture ....so being coloured can only be culture ,not a gene.
You are crazy Tayla is black not colored
I just dnt knw why this keeps popping up on my CZcams ...
❤❤❤❤❤ I am a Indian your fan
Tyla you are very very beautiful and your voice is very nice
In Belize I am a Creole black woman . My mom is Hispanic and father is Black. When I am called a African American woman and correct people here in America they seem too be offended by this which I don’t give a shit . I’m tired of they want to put whatever they perceive me to be. American needs too respect others people learn more about culture and educated themselves 32 years in America not one best friend people are complex in this country all my friends are in My birth country whenever I visited them I’m happy
I think you're misquoting it by saying people have a problem with the tribe. No one has a problem with the classical tribe that you mentioned. That's one of the oldest tribes in Africa and that tribe is not known to be mixed race so where do you get mixed race at?
I have no idea what the hell's going on. I just know the tribe she's talking about is extremely classical tribe from Africa. But where does the mixed race come in? Cuz no one has a issue with the classical tribe.
She's a rainbow of color. That's what makes her so beautiful.♥️
I LOVE TYLA!!!!
Guys, she need to shut up because Tyla is my favorite
SHUT UP
Coloured is a thing in South Africa weather the world likes it or not
Thank you.We know what coloured means in our country so we not gonna listen to people attacking our girl for saying who she is.In our country its not derogatory.....they need to learn before they bash.🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦 Proudly.
Thank you
Everyone Apartheid Era decide who was coloured Anybody of mixed origin was considered Coloured . Apartheid could not stop the Nations mixing as Love conqueror of all !! Proud to be Mixed . Beautiful❤❤❤❤
Tyla is Half Indian not colored her mother is. She seems confused herself
Tyla is coloured like so many of us because we are multiracialy mixed She didn't grew up in India where her father is from but in the coloured culture and by all means she is mixed
Its their way of saying, they're not white, but acknowledge their black beauty
No one travels to South Africa with the intention of erasure for the use of the word colored. It would be ignorant in Southern Africa. However, saying you understand others history and then in the next sentnce saying (however) is desmissive. When you come to America. If you really understand then use "mixed race" it is a viable resolution for both histories.
Just the guy casually shooting out the window while driving the helicopter 😂
❤
Most of us over here is mixed race so why are they going out of the way to make it a big deal with her using the word it's just a word cause at the end of the day we are going to be a African booty scratcher to the rest 😂😂😂😂😂
She is coloured. Probably not khosian. Who are her parents and grandparents. Mandela was Khoisan but never considered himself coloured. Khoisan are nit mixed race they are their own race. When you say mixed race what do you mean?
It is so good to see people over in Africa that look like me. I didn't want to go because I was afraid that I wouldn't be accepted. #Africa❤
That's americans for you 😂😂😂 Always getting offended at things that DO NOT concern them. Your racist history is NOT every black person's history. The only thing i have to say is just be proud of who you are and no one can make you feel less than... no matter what❤❤❤❤
She knows who she is...proudly coloured 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Amen
Shit im coloured and im a USA citizen and chose to gravitate to my white side. Nothing to see here.
You tell them ignorant people 😊😊😊
Wasn’t colored part of the apartheid race hierarchy in SA? Didn’t the designation grant more privileges than the black people and less than the whites? Wasn’t there like a pencil in hair test to determine race? Sandra Laing? I get that it’s a culture and ethnic group at this point…. But like it still is tied to a very ugly history even in South Africa
Y not forgive and move on black people always playing victim and acting like they are better then everyone else
the fact that 'Coloured' South Africans actually got angry when she said she's coloured, it is just sad. ha! when you apply for a job you have to tick a box black or coloured or white or other. but she said im coloured and she was wrong. it just shows that south Africans want to cover the racism in such a stupid way. and by the way im coloured and Tyla jy make jou move girl!
Americans got mad not South Africans
Khoisans are not mixed race(coloured),Silly!
Mind the affairs of your own country, please.
I’m guessing none of these movie “ companies “ got a cease and disist letter from Hollywood on copyrights😆
