The Grammy Awards introduced a new category this year called "best African music performance"
African artists flew into Los Angeles to start celebrations days prior to what would be the continent’s most significant night, yet, at the Grammys. South Africa’s Trevor Noah hosted for the fourth time in a row, Nigeria’s Burna Boy performed on stage, the first for an Afrobeats artist, and Tyla, Ayra Starr, Davido, Musa Keys, Asake, Olamide (and Burna), were nominated for the first-ever Best African Music Performance Award at the show.

African American music is the "engine" of ALL contemporary western music. It's a insult that the Grammy's are just now acknowledging Continental African music.

The key instrument in World Music today is the guitar. The guitar has roots in the four-string Arabic oud, brought to Iberia by the Moors (Africans) in the 8th century. The guitarra morisca is a direct ancestor of the modern guitar. By the 14th century, the guitarra morisca was simply referred to as a guitar.

African music is a old as mankind itself. Not impressed by the Grammys finally coming around to recognizing us formally. Moving right along recognizing my own people and our amazing transformative art.
