to see where you have come in the 12 months since you got your first3d printer, and remembering your thoughts on them prior to owning one its great seeing just how far you have come, it looks like the 3d printer has replaced a large number of the tools you needed prior to getting one, (though you have downsized, you may find you need to upsize again to fit all the printers in 🙂. the speed which they allow you to create a product, test it and then make modifications to improve the performance is one of the benefits - others, well I just fixed the stop button on a milling machine that was broken and sticking in the off position, a few minutes drawing up a part, 16 minutes of printing and i had a working stop button again - a further 16 minutes to print it in red for stop (the first one was the test piece to see if it did the job, and just used the colour that was in the machine. I dont use mine as often as you (but then I dont have to come up with new content every day for youtube), but it gets used to solve a problem or make a part at least once a week.

Holy smoke Batman Rob, four three D printers. You make my thinking and tinkering look like it's standing still. You're creating literally in your sleep. You're Da Man as we say here in Texas. Salute

Robert, thank you for the review on this product. I used a "rapid prototype machine" as they were called 12 years ago and found they've advanced in leaps and bounds. I plan on building some of your turbines they fascinate me and I love to experiment.

Now that temperatures are lowering, those heated beds look good for outdoor seating powered by a wind wall 😎

I wish someone would come up with a laser attachment that could heat up the layer just ahead of the nozzle to help get better layer adhesion.

IDEA for a very large printer: 1) Make a large X/Y rail system then attach a smaller/light/ very fast x-y rail system under it. For small prints it would be very fast as , for larger prints something to think about i.e the optimal move paths within the small /fast area before it shifts to the next small/fast area.... requires more analysis than i wanna think about but something to ponder.

It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on where the industry is headed. I'm hoping for a breakthrough in diy filament. Based on a couple papers I read, it sounds like it should be possible to either make filament with cellulose, or print it directly with "direct ink writing" aka a syringe hooked to a pump/motor. The great part is that it should be easy to get cellulose from either paper waste (scrap paper, cardboard, etc) or directly from wood. Sounds like a process that could be done at home. Make your own material, add in structural additive to improve characteristics, then print.

hello ser, for better sticking to the bed, you can use wood glue. mix wood glue with water 1:1 on the heatbed with your fingers and make a slim layer of glue/water mixture. when the bed is heated up wait for the water is gone, after that you will have a very slim sticky surface of wood glue. this will make the part stick as hell. try it out ;-) greetings from germany

If you're in Edinburgh and you have a phone app such as the Bambu Handy and you notice the print starting to fail you can remotely turn it off.

Robert, Hope all is well there in Canterbury, Kent County England area with the passing of the major storm Ciaran with 100+MPH / 165+KPH winds creating 1.2 million without power. If you have power please let us know in the CZcams community area tab how you are doing.

I appreciate the tried-and-tested review. @2:40 I was thinking, "just slap an AI to watch the machine" but that is very difficult for this scenario where the error rate is so low. It's got nothing to learn from...

Actually, I'm also curious to see your version of material science and 3d printing.
You have a great mind for this sort of thing. I can't help but wonder if there's a way to enhance a single property of PLA, like more brittle for gears, or more flexible for blades (if that's how it actually works, I don't really know).
Also if you have access to ethyl acetate, dichloromethane, methyl ethyl ketone, toluene, or cyclohexanone you can smooth out PETG prints. Though I totally understand if you want nothing to do with them 😅
Though toluene (paint thinner) might be the "safest" option. Maybe place the lense on some parchment (baking) paper, set that on a grill. Place in a steel bucket/kettle and pull a slight vacuum. Let sit at room temp for whatever length of time (no idea how long I dont print with PETG, just pla, abs, nylon and i dont bother with smoothing).

A lot or parts on the new electric uni cycles are 3d printed . Some are made from soft tpu filament for flexibility . One of the great uses for 3d printing is creating replaceable and customisable parts for form and function . I would like to see custom fit bike seats for my mountain bike made from carbon fibre filament and then some Eva foam on top for comfort .

If you're referring to the rotary water hammer drum configuration, driven by a 1/3 hp 3,200 RPM electric motor, I too would like more thought input. I googled Australian water hammer and didn't find the device you referenced by that name. The rotary water hammer is in my bucket list to create for myself.

    a few items.
    1. I'm finding that it's hard to see when you use black filament. You might check with others to see if it's just me or not.
    2. I'm trying to find the video where you show the 3d printed coil winder. I'm working my way back from a looong time ago and am on video 1843 or something like that. If you had the video number in your head without looking, maybe you could reply to this. I'll probably keep on binge watching the videos but it'd be nice to get going on that. I did view your video on lazy people :), and while I am lazy, I also try to keep myself busy.
    3. I'm trying to adapt the counter in the geneva drive so it will count from right to left, but haven't been able to convert the stl files for my purposes yet. Any chance you could make the drawing files available? I'm using an older version SketchUp.
    4. These are awesome videos. I was a embedded design engineer before retiring and all the mechanical ones are really interesting to me. There are some things that I want to build that now I think I have a chance of doing.
    Thanks.

I don't know if it was serendipitous or what but your CZcams video 1929 showed up as a suggestion to watch. It had the wire winder in it so if you haven't seen this yet don't bother on that. Thanks again.

I purchased a Creality Ender 3 V2 and it was a disaster. Never got it to print. It was returned. Now I purchased a Elegoo Neptune 3 Pro. When I saw the box and it said Shenzen, China, then I thought it was going to be another disaster. Well the setup was quite easy 1 hr vs the 15hrs with creality. BOY was I wrong....!!!!! I powered on and it said booting for like 2 secs and then black screen. I power off and on but same issue. Just a black screen. The scan desk is blank.!!! The connection to computer does not work. Another disaster...!!

Maybe it needs to be in your area of interest for what he prints . He's done windmill stuff , machine mechanisms ,,, I'm thinking toys n stuff would interest some of us with grandkids, model railway stuff too for some , 3d puzzles, musical instruments such as violin, I'm certain those into war games are getting into it . Otherwise Rob has done good stuff building from recycled stuff in the past. It'll be a new frontier one day perhaps when the printed shapes become forms for metal casting of those shapes .

The Ender 6 of printing has ruined 3D filament printing for me.46 attempted prints with one 2cm cat the only complete print...
I have a Sonic Mighty resin printer which works for any useless object you want, Try and make anything useful with the soft and brittle plastic is a waste of time.
