This is important because failed running plays to not stop the clock, unlike a failed passing play. So while at the goal line, the only options was one more running play, OR a quick pass play, then one final running play. On paper, that was a low risk pass play, but Butler took a risk and jumped the route avoiding the pick play

The logic of passing makes sense. If the ball in incomplete it stops the clock to allow the Seahawks to take their time setting up a running play and then if that play doesn’t result in a TD, they can use their last time out to set up another play. It was probably the most efficient usage of their downs given the clock situation, it’s just a testament to New England’s preparation that Butler recognized the play the Seahawks were running

Coaching ultimately won and lost that game. Making that call, which was a play Seattle had run that season before on the goal line, against a coach you know is always prepared, was Pete's mistake and lost his team that game. Knowing that play was one Seattle used and coaching your team so each CB had to run it twice in practice so that they recognized it when it showed up, was how the Patriots coaching won that game. I would claim that most other teams in the league would not have been as prepared as the Patriots. Lynch had been doing fine and on 1st down had gotten more than 2 yards and I think would have plowed it in for a TD. But hey, hindsight is 20-20 right?

Honorable mention....DeVonte Freeman misses a block, the LB sack/fumbles Matt Ryan which further fuels New England's comeback. Worst part was Ryan had Gabriel open down field behind the defense when it happened.

Looking at the end of Patriots-Seahawks, even if Lynch wasn't given the ball to run, he appeared to be WIDE OPEN AF in the endzone if only Wilson would've noticed and just flung the ball to him. And since that game, seems like Seattle has been cursed. Haven't been back to either the Super Bowl or the NFC championship game.

One thing to remember about Romo dropping the snap: he would have made the touchdown had Gramática blocked Babineaux. Babineaux ran right by him to make the tackle on Romo, and Gramática just stood there. It was not the first time the Cowboys screwed Romo, and it would not be the last. Romo did some truly amazing things as a quarterback, but when he was not tripping over his own feet, he was tripping over his teammates and coaching staff, so it all amounted to naught.

Had 129 sacks, and recovered 30 fumbles, a record that still stands. Yeah, the Vikings didn't win any of the Super Bowls they were in, but it didn't keep Carl Eller or Alan Page out of the Hall. Guess who mentored both of them?

Pete Carroll had explained why they passed. There were 26 seconds left and they only had 1 timeout left so they didnt have time to run 3 run plays so they had to prepare 2 run plays and 1 pass plays. He decided that the pass play would be on second down. If it was incomplete, clock stopped and they had 2 plays with 1 timeout.

Jim Kelly and Marv Levy SO deserved at least one Superbowl win. I remember the 80's/early 90's when the NFC totally dominated against the rather weak AFC. Bernie Kosar, Marty Schottenheimer and the Browns deserved one also. I always jokingly said the world would fall apart when the Chiefs were finally allowed to win another Superbowl...I wished I'd kept my mouth shut because I'd definitely take the SB drought.
