My buddy works in the Jazz front office in an administrative role and said there’s been buzz about a Lauri trade, but he and a few others don’t see Utah trading him unless the package was too good to pass up. AKA, young players and a load of draft picks. I think Lauri is extremely talented, but I view him as a Mikal Bridges where yes he’s a great player, but his stock rises significantly where he is the main option, but isn’t a guy you can build a team around. He’d be a great maybe second option, but probably as your 3rd or even 4th. Considering he’s on a bad team with the main role, he looks significantly better, but it’s not like he’s new in the league. The cavs and bulls decided to move on from him for what looks like Pennies on the dollar whereas if anybody trades for Lauri, they will give Utah dollars

      @FoulTarnished47 Před měsícem

@Shortballa11 Well, they had 2 picks, drafted 2 guards, and moved the one that was projected to go higher. They clearly have a lot of faith in Castle, and even if they don't, they still acquired CP3 for this season, and can look to acquire another PG in the future if Castle doesn't work out. Moving Vassel allows you to give up less around the margins. Utah don't really need another PG anyway, so Spurs could likely keep Jones if they move like Vassel, Keldon, and a pick or 2.

Lets put Devin Vassell value in context here. He signed a 5 year/140m deal, basically making slightly under 30m each year. Franz just signed a 220m deal for 5 years. Vassell is just as good if not better than Franz Wagner, they had the same stats last year and Vassell can actually shoot threes.
When you build Spurs trades, put Harrison Barnes and Zach Collins in there, because the Spurs are not trading these amazing contracts they sealed with super valuable players. Keldon Johnson makes half of what Vassell does, and averaged 22 ppg a couple of years ago. These are deals you get to keep, not to trade, because in the current free agency market players get paid far too much. Devin is not leaving the Spurs, he is untouchable and wont be moved no matter who is on the other side of the trade. His deal is too good to enable you to build a deep team around wemby

Let me start by saying I’m 56 and a huge spurs fan for my whole life .
But the other spurs fans comments on here are ridiculous . Saying how trading Vassell is a mistake .
    That shows two things.
    1) you are simply thinking with your hearts and not your brain
    2) you know nothing about basketball
Lauri is an all nba caliber player who fits a position and several needs that the spurs want .
Vassell will NEVER be half the player Lauri is . Never.
If you think so , you haven’t watched either player or you just don’t understand basketball .
Plus Pop just said tonight that Castle will play serious minutes , because of how advanced he is already .
What position do you think he’s gonna play?
Not gonna take CP3, Wemby or Barnes spots . He isn’t going to play the 4 or 5.
So that leaves Vassell as the 6th man.
A place he will flourish !
Starting five of CP3 , Castle , Barnes, Lauri and Wemby would put them as a contender .
You keep Vassell , they win35/40 games .

I feel like the extension "deadline" is a much bigger deal than just a throwaway mention at the end of the video and handicaps Utah more. It's also why either the Dubs and Spurs can sit and not have to offer their best deal since every day that ticks closer to that extension deadline, the less leverage Ainge has. It behooves Ainge to trade Lauri before it gets to that extension deadline because all Lauri has to do is wait until Aug 7 to sign his extension and then he can't be traded this season. Suddenly Utah has a floor raiser on their team signed long term that is untradeable and could put them outside the top 10. Then the Lauri chip is wasted. Lauri could also just not sign the extension at all and then he's playing on an expiring deal which won't get the same value either since Ainge would be desperate to move him to get something back.
Of course this is Ainge so he thinks he's slick enough to think he can fleece someone but I do feel like he's overplayed his hand.

What's all this gibberish about the Jazz "losing the pick to OKC"??
    A) They already got value when they traded the pick.
    B) It's top 10 protected anyway. Don't act like they're losing a chance at Cooper Flagg.
    C) IF the Jazz stay out of the bottom 10, it'll be because some or all of the 7 (SEVEN!) first round picks they've scooped up in the last two years have worked out really well for them, with more 1st rounders than they need coming up. I don't think Ainge is as pressured in the Markonnen situation as some of y'all seem to think.

That is the stupidest way you can try to build a team right now, especially in the absolutely loaded Western Conference. They need to focus on getting Victor a second star in the draft over the next couple of years. Jordan and LeBron didn't even win their first championships till their late 20s. With Steph and Lauri in the starting lineup every night, the warriors have two defensive negatives in the starting lineup. That team isn't getting past the second round of the playoffs, absolute best case scenario. A trade for Lauri washes the rest of Steph's career. The only you get far in the playoffs with this version of Steph is to surround him with long, athletic, twitchy players who can defend at a high level and defend multiple positions at a high level, and hope they can develop enough offense to compete. That's players like Kuminga and Moody.

That’s crazy to think that Chicago gave up markannen for literally nothing

I also don’t know if they would take in all those extra players. Right? They probably have 15 ish players on their roster and they would have to cut people to be able to do the trade. Maybe a third team?
