A couple of weeks ago Alan and Stefan made their way to the famous SEMA Show in Las Vegas. In search of new and innovative technology in the automotive industry, they ran into Jonathan Ward, CEO and Head Designer at ICON. After learning they were fans of each other, Jonathan showed off ICON's recent 49' EV Mercury powered by Tesla batteries. This walkthrough is a must watch for any car enthusiast....complete with a Crazy-Town Canadian superfan who loves a good debate on the environment and how great burning coal is!

The amount of respect from the guys on camera here is fantastic. Being interrupted in the interview at such a tangent and handling it with such aplomb is real self-mastery. Kudos points to you both.
I like how respectful this conversation was from beginning to end, including the moment that this older gentlemen barges in with a discussion, which was uncalled for but whatever, both gentlemen kept their calm and respectfullness and patience, many kudos to mr. Jonathan Ward, i already thought he was doing great stuff, but i wasn't aware he is also a very respectful and pacient human being. No over the top loudmouth, he even says 'thank you sir' for recieving positive comment on his amazing work. This guy and his brand are underappreciated. Imagine if 'Icon' became a 'mainstream' brand but without all the political problems that are pushed in by outsiders like is the case with many automotive brands today. It actually reminds me of the 'good old' days. Honest, unspoiled, real, technology. I love this stuff. I just wish i had enough finances available to actually get something like this. These classic hudsons, mercuries are stunning and paired to the modern electric drive is just a fantastic combo. Cars today are lying to your ears through speakers in the cabin too so to be very honest, i couldn't even be negatively position towards having some speakers in there that mimic ICE sounds.
The old man said F it, tired of this Climate Change BullShit narrative.

Very thoughtful....
You guys handled that camo-capped Trumpeteer with such grace. Awesome Merc! Excellent job!
Guy with camo hat is your drunk uncle Christmas dinner.😅
Every man in Alberta and Saskatchewan is that uncle.
His pickup truck has a coal chute and a steam engine.
Green energy against coal is like a push bike against a formula 1 car. Its why China is killing the West because the West has its hands tied behind its back in a knife fight.
UK has 500 years worth of high quality coal underground and we buy low grade coal from Poland.
In 500 years time we will have cold fusion
Climate change con in a nutshell.
Friend lives in New Zealand goes to work in Spain. Buys Tomatoes looks at the packaging and it says product of New Zealand.
Goes home buys Tomatoes again and the pachaging says product of Spain.
Green energy is a rich man's con job.
I’d really pin him as a sober california guy who’s had his second cup of starbucks if it weren’t for the accent
I love how Stefan kept right up with Man From The Great White North and, perfectly seriously, proposed a coal fired steam turbine hybrid. :D
This IS the top end of EV conversion. We need so many more of these. We need to keep the ART in the automobile world and Jonathan is doing just that. Kudo's for a good interview and a great car !!
I love every aspect of that old Merc. This gives me hope that a new branch of the custom, street rod community will spring up.
It has. Just google EV conversion and other key words like VW van electric or solar. Let your imagination go...Yes there is a Van going from antarctic to the tip of South America on Solar panels and an EV drive train.
Packaging Tesla packs like the valve covers and block of a V8? That's actually super brilliant, makes it easy to run cooling and high voltage lines too if they all come out the back
I wish you mass produced this Amazing build...Well done Sir.
He can't be real.Super nerd tech gear head with an enormous eye for visual design.Priceless
And, a Star is born.
Loving this! Jonathan and Stefan in one frame :) Two of my favorite geeks!
Love the shit out of that digital dash. Tablet with a chrome surround, looks almost period correct
Needs an OLED screen with high dynamic range. To make the design of the original style pop more.
@@Neojhun I'm with you... It definitely needs something. Fortunately the builder realized it as we did and has probably rectified.
This is the future for classic cars...well done!
Absolutely... My (likely) last vehicle with be a '56 Ford pick-up EV resto-mod. Full Tesla treatment, dual rear motors and a single up front (for AWD). It'll be my "retirement gift" to myself. At least one can dream...
I love how the camera person zoomed in on the coal-man’s name badge. Just in case. Hahaha
Wow. I am on th.e edge of my seat. I did not know this existed. 20th century automotive and motorsports will always be the most important vehicles. This video shows that even despite environmental concerns, the culture and industry will not only continue to thrive, but will grow. Ladies and Gentlemen, your investments are sound. This truth about the future is becoming more well understood. --
NICE CAR! if One or 2 Car Companies go back and do old school cars like that they'll be making history and more money
I especially like how the original style is maintained most beautifully, while actually being higher in quality than the original. Unreal. Not everyone can recreate without compromising the style of the era. Consumers will demand this and a whole sector of the industry will develop. Thanks for discussing that this art, that makes sense how it causes opponents. An artist's work can develop into production and seed a whole industry.
Don’t think I have ever been so excited about a retromobile.
Definite internet gold! 🏆😂
Haha haha I’m a trucker and this is the world I’m surrounded by lol
That it is one cool car, I would so own that. This is my second article viewing about this car. I love the way the new tech is integrated into the retro. So glad you guys recorded and shared it.
Nice camo by Joe Public, his minutes worth of fame.
Gotta love Canadians.
The only other car I've seen Jonathon Ward do is the derelict style Rolls Royce. which is pretty amazing. He's one of those people that Ive seen only a few times on youtube, yet he inspires me. (some days you think the idiots have won).
His knowledge and passion for his art is infectious! Absolutely love what he's done with the EV
Great project👍👍👍👍👍
I wanna see it on the road!!
Two of the best in one video. Amazing craftsmen both.
Amazing car but way too expensive for the average person to buy. I love the look and the engineering is fantastic. Jonathan’s work is always mind blowing to me. As a Canadian my apologies for Camo hat dude who is obviously suffering from being weaned off coal smoke inhalation.😳😮🤔
You mean the smoke which fertilizes his fields? Maybe then he can stop using phosphorus which runs into lakes and causes toxic algae blooms.
Nothing this guy builds could ever piss me off.
Absolutely fantastic. Great work!
Keeping your cool with the guy in the cap..... respect.... I would have lost it........
Brilliant video. Great that you didn't edit Mr. Wise out.... Hilarious.
Glad they didnt, he handed them their Ass with reality.
@@brandonford4474 Brilliant well written response.
Should I apologize for all of Canada? We’re good at that.
Nah, I think it's implied. :)
The old man was exposing some Facts to the Climate alarmist BullShit..
@@brandonford4474 No, he has got his facts wrong. If we keep pumping CO2 into the atmosphere it will have a deleterious effect, as every scientist since Arrhenius in 1890 has said.
@@linmal2242 you are absolutely Not correct, more Co2 makes the world Greener. Also you should probably erase the "every scientist since 1890" comment, I dont think you'd want anyone else to see such a laughably incorrect statement.
@@brandonford4474 wow well you'll see by 2030 you'll be eating those words.
Oh Tom Koole from Vulcan. Out representing Alberta on the world stage. Thanks.
Right on. Better than Notley, who turned into Peter Lougheed once she was heading a government!
Alberta is Canada's worst Province. Please seperate so we can stop listening to you guys whine and bitch about how nobody wants your low quality bitumin.
With oil hitting the skids you guys will be paying refineries to take WCS.
Amazing build, your the man Jonathan…..icon.
Beautiful job on the car! But, wow, camo man. Textbook Dunning Kruger... God help us.
Possibly the best youtube video ive ever seen for so many reasons
get the hook for that guy
Camo man was great!
No social cues what so ever.😂
Yeah but what he said wasn’t untrue
In addition to the amazing moving art pieces he makes, I love the watches he has at ICON. Great video, guys.
I said all of this before I got to the environmental and economical impact debate. That was a hard left.
you guys are stand up professionals. how did you maintain a relative cool during that exchange?! the guy was fairly educated, but very demanding - and I'm glad someone just as informed was able to debate him and make a great point!.
essentially you don't cure pollution by farming out the pollution t other places, e.g. burning fuels in the countryside to power EVs in the city, that puts the polution on people who are not causing it, A better solution for urban polution is traffic management. Hell we work in a 24 hour world right, yet everyone goes to work and comes home from work in the same 2 hours. The rest of the time, the roads are empty. Thats the problem.
@@themightydash1714
Keep in mind due to efficiency gains on EVs, and how big powerplants are way more efficient than a standalone gas engine, you get way less pollution per mile in most places except like, coal country New Jersey . Over time the grid gets cleaner too, there's almost no downside
14:27 "that's the fucken problem by the way" 🤣🤣🤣
Ive ben thinking why this conversion/upgrade concepts have taken so long. Bravo.
Is always one in every crowd, who has to advocate for remaining with old out dated technology and power sources that are harmful to the environment due to their fear of being left behind, or put out of a job. But good job in keeping up with him, to make him not only feel included but show his clueless mentality.
Absolutely priceless!!
"You have nearly 400v DC Direct Current. That's terrifying." There's a guy who knows what they are dealing with. Respect the beast.
Dash is awesome
i really like it New inside but outside looks are classic
John I love your vehicles and your videos but please explain to us the phrase “it jumps the shark”?
In short it refers to something who's novelty has been so exhausted that it requires somewhat desperate and somewhat pathetic measures maintain its relevance. It's origins come from an episode of Happy Days where the Fonz jumps a shark while water skiing.
You should have a non-functional key slot in the dash that's connected straight to that 389 VDC and when someone comes up telling you that we need to burn more coal to save the world you can just toss them the keys and say take it for a spin.
In the early 19th century, the meanings of motor and engine had already begun to converge, both referring to a mechanism providing propulsive force. “The first recorded use of ‘engine’ to mean an electrical machine driven by a petroleum motor occurs in 1853. In other words they are now considered synonymous.
Fascinating little bit of information 😘
I got earcancer listening to that guy during the interview about the electric car.. Nice cover of sema othervice.
feels wrong but yet beautiful
Dope channel, broseph.
New sub for sure.
Thanks for the sub!
This was great stuff!
Thanks for this, it's pretty terrific.
And boy, if you ever feel like doing a piece on the silver Guzzi V50 y'all did a while back, please, please do. It's a big favorite around here.
It's a masterpiece of subtlety.
The V50 is still one of my personal fav's. Understated, not fast, but nimble with and throaty, it was a blast to tool around on. It's been a long time since we've seen or heard anything about it, I believe that it be seen in the wild somewhere in the PNW.
Wow!! Just wow
15:18 Spec-D Tuning was there too, nice
Not only the Canadian, but I caught how the camera man kept the blonde in the black mini in shot! Snagged! Lol....
Fantastic vid. Apologies from Canada for the weird half-time show :)
Stand tall with your AssWipe Trudeau & his emotional thatrics. As your country is buried & bankrupt.
He's looking a lot better than Donuld "The Virus is a Hoax" Dump.
Boa noite congrats Jonathan Ward vai sema show 2021 carro cast away-an impressive project from an old oldsmobile 1946 bom trabalho icon
At least you guys were nice and respectful to him. People are definitely annoying.
What part of his data was incorrect?
Was waiting for him to say "WINDMILLS CAUSE CANCER"
The Canadian came forth placed them in their right place and left loool
I thought I was the only one nutters just walked up to and started debating. I see I was mistaken now, thanks. 🤔
If you're not pissing someone off, you haven't done anything. Good t-shirt/bumper sticker.
Mr. Camo hat should be pulled out just as a separate CZcams video. Probably go viral.
13:36 Apologies for the rude Canadian interrupter but he's from Vulcan, Alberta, a town with a population of about 1,300 people in the middle of farm country. Pay him no mind please, every country has them....
I had just watched Fully Chargeds interview on this car with great joy! I was doing the same with your interview until that Canadian farmer showed up! He’s at Sema for Gods sake! He misses the whole point of this build. I imagine that if he drove this monster masterpiece of technology, he would shut the f-k up quickly!
how many ks to a charge? down to the shop and back
Johnathan, you should do a bio of yourself ! It would be very interesting.
I'm a traditionalist but this car is well done. Only downside it no longer sounds like a V8
Well even that could be adjusted for threw the speakers while the up side are great, so much safer. way faster in all metrics. better brakes and virtually future proof just a change of batteries that will keep on getting cheaper and will probably have better charge for same size. the real down side is cost
Tom Koole had that guy shitting his pants.
"oh humans" these people are sick
There has to be a "wingnut" in every crowd.
The 'crowds' are as diverse, as the 'wingnuts'!
Does anyone know who the client was? Like who was the car created for?
Jonathan Tursich
I’d like an address, so I can go knocking and ask for a ride
That guy was exact the fucking problem. So much empathy for that throbbing forehead vein hahahaha
TRAGIC!
my 72 yr old dad would have a stroke lol
I just subscribed becurse you kept the part with the odd guy
Wow, they managed to find the one impolite Canadian in the world without even trying. They should have caught it and studied it.
Camo hat has some weird ideas about--just about everything!
so where's a video of the car on the road?
That Canuck knew more about the CO2 Farce than most. Yeah, he was intrusive, so not very polite.
Ahh Canucks 😆 $1.30 per 1/4 gallon regular
Love this car though wicked.
I am sorry. From a torontonian
i've heard it all now, coal fertilises the land and hydro isn't clean because it get a bit warm......and coal fired electricity...and a lot of it..is used to refine petroleum from crude.... a study in poland found that EV's are cleaner than Combustion engined vehicles EVEN when all the electricity comes from coal fired power station exclusively.. and as far as rain goes, we've been coal free for much of the year, but it still rains, germany has a massive amount of renewable energy supply, but its still rains half the year there aswell...
Security!
I was cool until he insulted my genius president.lol....but man this is the coolest derelict/ratrod I've ever seen!

Sadly no longer in business it seems.
Tom Addle, Toms Diesel Shop, Vulcan, Canada
"Vulcan is a town in the Canadian Prairies of southern Alberta, Canada, within Vulcan County. It is located on Highway 23, midway between the cities of Calgary and Lethbridge. The population of the town was 1,917 in 2016."
This guy's a blue chip artist
Hey again
Listen I have a “problem”with my Triumph street twin, and seeing as you are pretty knowledgeable about it all, I thought I’d ask...
I find my bike, not feeling like it used to. It use to have a strong coughing acceleration where I had a good like bopbopbop sound when I was accelerating in lower rpm. Now, I feel like it’s more like a steady stream when I accelerate, like sometimes it feels, like I could be in high rpm pretty quickly in 2nd and 3rd, I even found myself at the end of the throttle without the power I should be expected to have... it’s hard to explain by text (even more in English), even when I try to explain to the garage they don’t seem to pay me no mind... they take it for a ride and say it seems fine, but they didn’t have the before/after effect I’ve had...
I tell myself it might be that the bike used to be new and now it’s fallen into what it’s supposed to be... it’s at 4000km
I’ve played around with the clutch lever settings (1/2/3/4) and cable tightening, it does change things, but the effect doesn’t go away
I know there are more settings I haven’t looked into, like the clutch cable down by the foot, or maybe it actually comes from the accelerator
Dunno
Thanks to you Guys
Or anyone who could help
Adrien
The guy who brought it into the conversation sounded a bit like he was to California instead of Canada
Engines are mobile , motors were stationary
The guy with the hat a wood duck
That farmer’s no fool
That dude in the camo hat is right. No need to be dicks to him. He knows what he's talking about. MAGA
Nice language!
Hi I'm a Canadian and we do not all think like that please do not take this guy as the average Canadian some of us have an intellect
I couldn't do that to a Mercury in such good condition, but still very, very cool!
Wow, soo much concern over a one off electric car.
Thank you for not editing out the Canadian!
