This is my favorite Derelict. Absolutely beautiful build. I like how careful this one was done to appear so original in and out and also the patina is just right in my opinion. Some were just too worn-out looking in my opinion. This looks like a nice original "survivor". I'd so love to own this own.
The video is both entertaining and educational. Master level Engineering, craftsmanship, artistry. Had I seen a video like this back in high school (1970's) I would have skipped my engineering degree & instead become a coach builder starting as an apprentice.
It does actually matter when they start putting JUNK motor in such a COOL old car. They should have put a TWIN "H" power 308 six cylinder in it and called it a day.
You and about a thousand of us other viewers. What's your plan? I have a vehicle that would get Jonathan's interest as it's near to the TR but yet different.
Wonderful to see that Hudson dream car from so long ago, up and running like the beauty it was built to be..A few majestic Hudsons turned up in Australia in the early 50s, and I as a kid was among their fervent admirers...so thanks fellas.
When I see these types of cars I automatically remember what my father used to say about them: "WHY DID EVERYTHING HAVE TO EVOLVE?!" WHY DIDN'T TIME STOP THERE?!" Thank you ICON✨
This is definitely one of my favorite Derelicts as well as one of my favorite Derelict videos. The interior on this car is nothing short of amazing. The details and design enhancements are what every car guy dreams about. Who wouldn't love to cruise around in this car? This would be hard to park. And equally as hard to not just stand and admire after it is parked. Absolutely one of the great Derelicts.
Wow! Thank God there are people like you and your group whose appreciation for preserving the classics in such a unique way are in existence and willing to so patiently share your expertise with all of us! Thank you for such an interesting tour through this incredible car! What amazing talent!
I just bought a car like this with a story, it’s from Arizona and its paint is completely burned off by the relentless Arizona sun. I’m in the process of upgrading it. I’m not even trying to suggest I will come close to your level of perfection but at least this car and this film is a great inspiration and strengthens my feeling I bought the right car. Thank you for sharing your passion, talent and craftsmanship!
Good day Jonathan , The attention to detail is amazing ...I just got off the the Phone with the U.S. Air force, and we all agree you should design the next and newest fighter jet .. Thanxs for taking the time to make these videos
This is the way these classics should be modified ... keep the traditional look of the original & upgrade the power & performance to modern day specs. Brilliant !
I would not change one thing, this old girl has a new lease on life that is just so special. I would love to own an enjoy this awesome ride. Great job Mr. Ward.
When I was a boy I spent a lot of time at grandmother's house, and her old lady friends drove Hudsons, Packards, Cadillacs, Lincolns, and more. These barges were quiet beyond imagination. With some, the instruments were the only way one could tell if the engine was running.
I think one of the most epic moments of owning a Derelict is the look on my insurance agent's face (I've been with since 1978) is her asking me " And you want to insure this for how much!!!"
I think this is my favourite Icon yet, though the Rolls is a close contender! Letting even more of the original car look ‘as is’ really works also the paint patina is really nice. Halogen lights over LED was a great call. 🦎
Finally, a soundtrack worth listening to! Thank you. I love all your rebuilds, but especially the Treble Clef speaker coverss in the Hudson. Kudos sir. Uncle Le😎
Look at the quality and detail of the technology applied to this project. Great. We were a Hudson family and we had over the years six Hudson's and this film restores my faith.I would have liked to see a Commodore as the basis for the build. And perhaps a 394 Olds or a Hemi set back six inches but other than that, Amazing!.....
Back when cars had there own presence, it's own how do I want to say it,its own personality. When everyone could tell it's a Hudson or a Packard a Cadillac. Beautiful cars of the time of style. Thank you sir for another superb car
Love the way you put old iron back on the road.Of course your beautiful touches you do to the interiors and running gear. Totally awesome and bitching.
This is what I subscribed for!! I can't wait for the reaction of future generations 50yrs from now to these cars! This sort of detail and quality can never be replaced
No wonder you fell in love with it - what a beauty! Love the lines and the style. And the build left you with the perfect sleeper - looks like a 'derelict' but lets all the smoke out whenever you want it to. This may be my favorite build of all the ones you've featured here. My heart just went pitter-pat. Thanks for sharing!
that is the determination of absolute perfection! astonished of the amount of knowledge and engineering ideas that implemented in the project. THanks for sharing!
That old saying "If you build it, they will come". You just keep finding those diamonds in the rough. I love that you incorporate the very old skills in with the now. 3D printing and laser cutting with Tannery.
I think I saw one of your creations driving back from Santa Cruz last weekend. It was a greenish sedan towing a massive airstream trailer. I did a double take and then got a big smile. I know what going on there. The vehicle look was priceless. Why would you spend the money on a fancy over priced car when you can drive a piece of handcrafted art and get lots of smiles.
That's a Hudson beast, puts the Green Hornet to shame. I like his Ford Crew Truck he did with that red wine interior … that vehicle was the best quality throughout. Yeah, they can donate that ford to me if they like. Thanks Ward, we enjoy your vids.
Another brilliant build! The attention to detail and modern tech integration to OEM vintage is always my favorite aspect of the Icon Derelicts. Frankly I would have a complete garage full of his builds if I could. One day, when I hit the lottery, I will be making contact with his people lol
These things are appoaching automotive perfection. Style, power, practicality, exclusivity, provenance, backstorys ,individuality. I am in awe of these vehicles. Lamborghini or derelict? . No contest, derelict it is!
As a 1949 year model myself I truly appreciate the smooth lines, low stance and understated elegance of this old Hudson. Just wish this old model could be rebuilt as easily😁😁😁
My goodness...it was 1978, I just got my license, I saw an original Hornet, told my dad....and he fatefully said, son, they’ll be time for that type of thing at another time....ahhhggggg. What a beautiful build, as usual....thank you thank you thank you for bringing us along for this fabulous geek fest! I wanna go to Memphis just on the off chance I’ll see this! Love this vid!
What a beauty that car is. I’m guessing the client is actually going to get out and enjoy this car judging by the way you did burnouts and such. This car is more bespoke than a Rolls Royce. Nice job as usual.👍👍
I really liked the Alligator used in the interior and the way the Dash was finished on this one. Also it's amazing that you were able to use the original hubcaps.
I've watched this, and every other, derelict and reformer video as well as a bunch of your 4x4 stuff and I gotta say the hudson coupe is my all time favorite from Icon. I work on cars and rebuild stuff myself and think man im pretty good then i see your stuff and i wanna throw mine away. All of your creations are incredibly built over the top but I gotta give it to this one to have my all time favorite. From the alligator leather to the original gauges it astounds me every time i see it. Keep up the absolutely over the top attention to detail. I hope one day i can afford to have a derelict built by the amazingly gifted and unbelievably talented Jonathan Ward.

Hey Jonathan, great work on this video - love the new format with the music and getting out of the car to show the differences and not just ripping up the canyon road and tunnels. Look forward to the next....
You and your crew are true artists. The level of automobile geekery is unmatched. I love the derelict look and vibe, but I can't help to imagine that sweet machine with a concourse level paint and body. Beautiful work.

The rope between the grab rails on the back of the front seat is a "robe rail." Back in the day, heaters weren't standard. On really cold days, rear passengers covered their legs and laps with "lap robes." When the lap robes weren't in use, they were tucked over the robe rail. I'm not sure when robe rails disappeared, but our 1956 Buick Century family car had dual robe rails with an ashtray and lighter in the middle.
Hudson style is so cool, it can't be had any other way !! Lovely build for an ICE Car. Now need to do a Tesla P100D Ludicrous under a four door Hornet :D You have to approach down pat.
I was pretty amazed at the skill and artistry and vision, but when he got to the part about the alligator skin I think my eyes got wide and my jaw dropped a bit. I would have never thought of doing that, he made the look of the car go to a whole different level. If I ever win the lottery I would be honored to have him build me anything he wanted.
