I love Neil every since I was 15..first cassette I ever bought when i learned to drive. I've never seen any if his Interviews before but now I know why I was so drawn to him. So down to earth...Canadians rock!! Long live neil young!!!😋☺
Thing about Neil Young is he really has an ear for beauty. Some of the chord changes on Everybody Knows and the ditch trilogy are just incredible. They have a kind of sweet, melancholy vibe that older music made great use of that at the time (and certainly today) were disappearing from the popular musical landscape. Even when the music is ugly and sparse, he can still sweeten it up to create this conflict between the light and the dark. And just how independent he has been, he's always done what he wanted the way he wanted musically. No chasing trends, no compromise, just what he wanted to hear being committed to tape.
After all these years and after the gold Rush is still one of the best rock albums ever made and I only just noticed that it is only 24 minutes long beat that you bastard's !!!
Neil was on top of the world here. After Freedom and Ragged Glory he was being massively celebrated. Then he did Harvest Moon and Unplugged and ended up in that same situation he was in after Harvest. Too popular for his own good.
Guitar has turned into this loud, crazy speed obsessed instrument, Neil tells it like it is, great music isn't about how fast the pianist can play, it's feel, little nuances, spaces between the notes that's where magic can happen.
I’m trying to imagine the size of the joint that Young, Loder and whoever else was hanging around the pool shared right before they turned the video camera on cuz they’re having waaay too good of a time for this to be the usual MTV interview. Hell, I’m even getting a contact high just watching it.

I see Daryl Hannah presented Neil with his MTV award in 1989. She is there with her then boyfriend Timothy Hutton.
And the " maker of Noise " is awesome
